The entire sequence of Max escaping Vecna's clutches thanks to the power of friendship and Kate Bush gave me so much chills. Sadie performed it brilliantly, and I wouldn't be surprised if she's nominated for an Emmy!

I'm unashamed to admit that I cheered loudly when Eleven hit Angela with the roller skate. Although all the characters were horrified, and it led to Eleven's arrest, with how awful Angela was to our poor girl, you can't deny that she had it coming. The actress played her role extremely well!

I also love the fact that the first thing Max remembers is Lucas saying "we're here, I'm here". because even though it may not look like words get through but it's still very important to hear those words. Sometimes it's so hard to believe that people will care or understand but the way Lucas has tried and tried to get Max to talk just makes me so emotional.

For some reason I thought she was being abused 💀 and then when her "mom" mentioned the dress in the bathroom I knew it was ED
After she threw up in the bathroom and "her mum" said she was fat I literally said 'aw she has bulimia'
I'm a dude and when she walked out of the office upset I though, "Ut oh, male councilor is diddling her!" and then she was puking in the bathroom and I thought, "Yep, totally, and now she's pregnant!" So needless to say I was thrown off by the mother pounding on the door lol

Yes, we all ugly cried with episode 4... I love the depression representation there, but for me the most significant part was her fighting off Vecna. It shows you that your friends and love ones can show you the door, but you are the one that has to give your last bit of energy to cross that portal. And you will fall because it wont let you go that easyly, but you have to get back up and keep going. That scene Is EVERYTHING, because it shows all this and her will to live. Best episode in the entire serie.

Same. Vecna is by far the scariest creature yet. Not because of design or anything like that. But because of this. He preyed on max, and Fred, and Chrissy. And we as the viewers fear him for that. And Sadie and the duffer brothers did an incredible job portraying that. Same with the actors for Fred and Chrissy. They all had very real reactions and that’s what set him up to be so scary

The way that this just literally is what depression feels like is absolutely insane. Sobbing. Speechless. I cried for like 2 days.
watching others react strongly to it as well validates those feelings. Depression is a struggle and it is always a win to reach out and grasp those connections like lifelines when it has you convinced nothing matters anymore. Yep the whole sequence was powerful and made me bawl.
I know this was posted a year ago but as someone who has OCD vecna literally feels so much like my OCD. Just constantly following you and showing you disgusting things you don't want to see, telling you you're a bad person. I think he's such a good metaphor for mental illness in general and how torturous it can be.

I was bawling at the end of episode 4 as well. The "I'm still here" broke me and brought back way too many memories. Such an incredible arc and man if Sadie doesn't nail every second of it.
it made me cry. i had a feeling they would go after max, but when it showed the headaches and nosebleeds, i jumped and said "Stop!"
when max started levitating (both times) i was like "no noo noo no, sit back down"
lets be real though, Caleb McLaughlin was not and still is not a good actor.

imo jonathan's a great character. he's been a good son to joyce, a great brother and father figure to will, and a good boyfriend to nancy. the problem is that the writers don't know what to do with him anymore. he might not be my favorite character but i do like him.

Jonathan thrives when he’s with his family IMO. I personally am not loving his storylines with Nancy, I find him kind of boring. But when he’s with his family, like in season 1 with his mom and season 2 with will I think he becomes more interesting. Similarly, I think eleven thrives when she’s in the middle of action. But when it’s just her wandering around, like in season 2 with her sister or whatever. I was bored. But that’s all just my opinion.

girl i cry with the ending scene of Dear Billy EVERY TIME :'> the letter she reads right before it wishing it was her that died instead and Billy revealing that she was suicidal, along with her favorite song having the lyrics "If I only could make a deal with God, to get him to switch our places" I WAS INCONSOLABLE
I honestly dont remember what was the last time a scene had me in so much awe as the ending of episode 4. That scene. THE scene. The vision, the vfx, the acting, the emotion, the flashbacks, the music, the anticipation. I honestly doubted for a sec if Max would make it out.
There are only 2 shows that make my breathing patterns irregular, they are Stranger Things and Mr Robot.
I actually thought Max was gonna bite it in that episode. Like everything leading up to that point, seemed to foreshadow it. And whoever pieced together the trailer for this season was brilliant because you see Max levitating. And you got no context for what was going on, and then you see the first episode with what happens to Chrissy. Levitated just before Vecna kills her. So in the back of my mind I kept going back to that moment with Max in the trailer, thinking that will be the moment of her demise. And then the letters. Then going to the graveyard. Oof! This show really had me going there. Lol
I lost someone to suicide, I think you're completely correct saying it's a metaphor for depression. They cut her down, the way it was shot looks so much like they cut her down from hanging. and her saying I'm still here, holy fuck.
And the song “running up the hill” max had to run up the hill of depression, and find the little bit of fight left in her to live

Can we talk about how amazing the buildup was throughout all of episode 4?? As soon as they revealed that Max was going to be next I was actually on the edge of my seat until she was ok. And that final scene where she's running to her friends??? (AND the amazing music selection) Also had me in tears. When she got out I was just sobbing cause of how relieved I was, and just seeing her fight her way through everything she had been dealing with hit really hard. Episode 4 is 100% the best episode of the season so farrrr.

Definitely one of the more impactful scenes ive seen in a long time. I think it speaks to anyone who, like you said, has been there. The visual depiction and setting is a great representation of the mental space of someone with depression. Recalling all of her memories and experiences, really brought the emotions to the surface and made it that much more relatable. And obviously, the music as she is running was perfect, such a beautiful and well done scene.

We all cried at Max's scene because it was so, so heavy and so well done. It's a perfect visual look at grief and depression. How you assume there's no one around to talk to, no one that cares, no one to support. So you bottle it all up until you feel like you're destroying yourself. And then you remember the positives: there are people that care, there are people that love you, and it's all worth fighting for. But I love how they made Max run for SO long at the end with things falling in her path. I feel like it beautifully expressed that even when you DO decide to confront your grief/trauma/depression, that's only the start. You have to commit. You have to constantly decide to move forward, legs chugging, despite things falling around you trying to throw you off your feat. It's a decision you have to commit to. The metaphors of mental struggles and coping with trauma this season have been amazing. That's what makes Stranger Things such a great show. It's not just a show about killing the new monster of the season. It's about learning to deal with grief, sadness, depression, loss of innocence, etc. Such a beautiful scene and Sadie KILLED IT. Even my Husband cried and he doesn't even like Max's character that much.
That's only true for normal people. I'm autistic and never had friends like those kids, so it doesn't help me.
"Did anyone else cry like this?". Yes. Ugly cried hard. I'll just say I've been through a lot the last few years as well and found ways to easily relate to Max. Pretty sure any people who've been at that point with depression and recognize all the aspects and how well it's been shown this season can relate. Wanting to fight and have friends and be happy but still struggling through everything else happening around us is portrayed amazingly this season and this episode I think. Very much felt relatable and the line of "I'm still here" (fighting) ended me first time I watched this. Every reactor I've watched with this episode I still get teary eyed and can't help it, so not alone at all. Hope you enjoy the rest of the season, and should be just in time for the finale in 2 weeks! :)

No bc ash is spot on with how good of a metaphor that ep is for depression, I was crying so hard at the end, it just hits different for ppl who've been through similar things, I hope ash isn't embarrassed about crying during that scene bc it really got so many people, queen don't worry about it 😂 and seeing Max overcome it even when all odds are against her, and vecna/mental illness saying things like "you deserve this" but she knows better and sees she's cared about and she has people worth fighting for and even when she is so tired and it would be so easy to give up, she doesn't! She keeps fighting! I could talk about that scene for a million years
i thought this too like it such an incredibly good metaphor for depression. and the large rock pieces falling while max was running could represent everything life throws at you and her running could represent fighting through it. and when she finally escapes her "im still alive" really got me. depression is tough and i think most of us who have experienced depression have had that "im still alive" moment.
the ending of episode 4 really hits hard when you realize the lyrics to the song relate to the survivor’s guilt max talks about in her letter to billy, that scene had me sobbing 🥲 but anyways don’t worry about forcing out the next video make sure you’re taking time to heal and to grieve you’ve been through so much the past couple years and i really hope you’re doing ok ♥️

Was literally *sobbing* by the end of episode 4. Like you, I had a very visceral reaction because I can 100% relate to Max. I just broke *THE FUCK* down. I was sobbing so hard that I had to stop watching and didn't come back to the show for a couple of days because I was still unpacking my emotions lmao. I think it's going to be very, very difficult for the show to make me feel as personally connected as I did with this episode.
I rarely cry from media, and although I gad some insane chills I didn't cry when watching by myself. But the way you give your own context and emotions to these videos also made me tear up when you started crying.

Like him caring about his friends so much that he would go above and beyond to save them, him taking matters into his own hands, etc, etc. I wish it was talked about in the show, why Mike has become so distant, because for now we only have theories that are basically a) bad writing, or b) the trauma of the events is catching up to him

I also like the theory *SPOILERS* that Vecna and his realm stand symbolically for Suicide, since he always targets those with severe trauma. And Ahe didn't get Max because she remembered that she has her friends and something worth living for.
he targets people with severe trauma because bad emotions/memories = more power. Which is why he tells Eleven that in order to use more of her power she has to think of something that upsets her
I couldn’t fully understand why I cried so much at episode 4 at the time, especially Max’s flashbacks and watching this now and how you explained how you felt watching it made me realise why. It is an incredible metaphor for depression and staying here for more of those moments with people that make you happy, safe and feel loved 💞
I cried so much during the running up that hill scene, to see her make it after all the obstacles she went through. then when you watched it i cried along with you. Hearing Lucas say "I'm right here" was like breaking out from the isolation of depression. So beautiful

I actually didn't cry the first time I watched that scene surprisingly, especially considering my long history with depression, anxiety, sexuality, body image, secluding myself from other people when I need help the most, etc. But watching you tear up and knowing what you've been through made me start bawling and reflecting on my own pain. Thank you for leaving all of that in the video, we love you because of how genuine you are Ash!

Never thought about the connections between the max scenes and depression. Ash pointing that out made some many things click in place for me. No ash you were not the only one who sobbed through that scene and needed about ten minutes to recover
The whole bullying eleven went through in the beginning of the season was so triggering for me. I usually don't cry at all, but that scene where everyone was making fun of her really made me tear up a lil bit. Like, I just her to have a support system, for someone to tell her it's OK, it's not her fault.

I literally enjoy EVERYTHING Ashley watches, even if I haven’t seen it myself. Just like she said about the episodes, this video was 1 hr long but it didn’t feel like it. I think I speak for everyone when i say that as long as YOU enjoy it, we will as well

I sobbed during max's scene when I first watched the episode but then seeing your reaction sent me into a whole different level of emotional breakdowns. I am so sorry you are going through this and my heart goes out to you and I wish I could just give you a hug! I love how 'Dear Billy' can be used as a metaphor for mental health when dealing with grieving or depression because even though we might not have Vecna trying to kill us, we all have our demons that we are battling. Sadie Sink definitely deserves an Oscar, Emmy, or hell, give her a Nobel Prize for her performance because it is transcendent. When she read the letter about blaming herself it hit me right in the heart because I know that feeling all too well!! (ayyyy, see what I did there???)
to answer ur question, d&d requires a lot of planning and involvement. each player has to make a character with like, points and skills and things they're good at (to sum it up), and the dm (the leader, the dungeon master) has to create a story and world for the players to interact in. it's really fun but takes a lot of planning ahead.
Chrissy made me feel bad, I really wish she was actually able to get better rather than what happened. ALSO Eddie and Her would have been such amazing friends :( I loved her

Girrrl that 4th episode. Ive struggled with depression and loneliness and maintaining friendships over the last couple years after moving cities. And that scene had me sobbing. it really was such a good metaphor for choosing connection and friendship when you're in that bad place. That desperate run with all the obstacles crashing around her really made it.

A week ago after two days of finishing the show my 12 years old little brother had convulsion, thankfully he's fine now and we pray it won't come back. I LITERALLY felt what other characters felt when they got scared after max and how happy they were when she was fine because the thing that happened to my brother really reminded me of it I even joke to my friend and say " I'm trying to remember if there was a sound of a clock", thankfully he didn't fly lol

Ash, my grandmother passed away two weeks and two days ago (a week after this season premiered). And one of my most fond memories with her was when we all huddled around the TV on a rainy day at a beach trip in 2016 with my family, her, and my cousin to watch season 1. We made it a family tradition to watch each season together after that. This and your series on Hill House have really been hitting sooo close to home lately.

As a philosophical person, and someone deep in psychology studies, since the begining I made a connection between the clock, spiders, and killings in a symbolic way.
The spiders represent mental illness. If you look at the first killing showed, she had an ED, and when he targeted her, she ran into the dining room and spiders crawled over the food.
And the clock in the woods too. Symbolizing how mental strife eats away at your time as they spread over it.
The clock represented your time. And once it runs out, you die. But take it in a mental, emotional sense. Where the spider gets you (mental illness) and there is no escape. You're stuck in the webs.
It was pretty clear that fighting to save yourself from yourself and your trauma was the big theme here in symbolism.
The eyes sinking in can also represent sinking into yourself. They eyes changing and glossing over is you gloss over the view of your world.
Trapped at the place of trauma shows how you are then trapped in by your own mind. Stuck in the negative memories, where Vecna them emerges (the ultimate spider) and kills you. Unless you fight to get to your good memories.
It emphasized having a good support system.
Max couldn't have saved herself without her friends supporting her. But she still had to do it _herself._ They couldn't save her. They could only be the support she needed to actually have the courage to escape her own mind.
There is more symbolisms I could touch on but I didn't sleep. Too busy watching season 4. 💀

Getting into pshycology for my own mental health. This season was pretty much about trauma and mental disorders, their connection to the mind, and the consequences when they are untreated. Everything from how trauma is so common while going unnoticed, to how Vecna grew up showing the signs that he would up being a serial killer (like killing animals, very common in people who grew up to be serial killers). I see it as traumatised people against the disgustingly sick ones, good against evil, but in a mental health context.

Even disgustingly sick ones are also mentally ill, and suffer as well. They show by hurting others instead of themselves.
I don't believe in the concept of good and evil, not in the sense as the weight of each word is understood now. Good originally meant beneficial to you, and bad meant unbeneficial, originally.
A saying I once heard and will never forget is that there are no good people or bad people, just happy people and miserable people.
Henry, from what I can tell, dealt with imeshment trauma. And with an already ill mind (if you look at the signs you point out) it reached it's conclusion.
Henry is very cluster B coded, and that is such an interesting approach to use mental health as the main catalyst. Nothing more terrifying than your own mind, and nothing more dangerous than mental illness.
This season was just phenomenal. 😌
@@ninaaaaishere yes, they do suffer from mental illness, of course. But I personally believe a line has to be drawn when the mentally ill starts killing. I can’t see that type of mental illness the same way I can see others, I’ve tried before and just can’t. Their actions aren’t to be excused, so I do believe in good and evil, in the sense that there comes a point when the untreated illnesses has catastrophic consequences. But at the end of the day this a fictional show, so I was talking mostly about good vs evil in the context of fiction.

Wow this is eerie. I too have gone through 4 deaths in my family. I lost 2 in November 2021 and 2 this February. I still battle with feeling so numb sometimes, and an exposed nerve at others. Seeing Sadie Sink portray that so sensibly as Max this season was very relatable. Sending my condolences to you and your family Ashley ; I know times like this are the farthest thing from easy.💜💜💜

Not to add to the eerieness, but weirdly enough I also have experienced 4 deaths in my family since May 2020, and just like Ash I recently experienced my 4th just over a week ago. Tbh the number of people I know who've experienced the passing of multiple family members is actually insane. My condolences to the both of you and may we all heal and get through this the best we can ❤️
