    Those VH tones you’re producing are insanely good. And your handwritten, step-by-step tablature gets a lot of the anxiety out of the way for your viewers. You are a one-man Guitar World magazine.

    Non guitarist like to think that Van Hagar Era songs aren't as difficult as the early stuff. Yeah try playing Summer nights correctly.

    • @Ranch5150SkinWalker
      @Ranch5150SkinWalker  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very true. Plus Eddie's lead playing in the Hagar years became so slippery and chromatic. The bending and nuances. Eddie just makes it sound easy. His "voice" on guitar was truly unique.

    Thanks Marty I hope you're not going anywhere because there was a dude that was teaching Leonard Skynyrd guitar stuff from all of the guitarist from Lynyrd Skynyrd. the guy is a master at it and he left TH-cam to go teach golf,🙃 doesn't make sense to me, I think maybe someone approached him and paid him off to leave TH-cam. maybe Ronnie's wife?😂 anything's possible, he was a great teacher and I was learning all kinds of stuff from him not anymore. I found you you're a great teacher and I want to learn this stuff. And I can't believe that I am, being 63 years old and disabled i have old injuries to my forearm and hand and still do it. I cut a tendon in my right-hand when I was in my 20s and injured my left forarm really bad had surgery but it doesn't seem to be keeping me from playing guitar. I hope you're not going anywhere I can't afford to take lessons any other way.injurys are not affecting me, I'm not getting any issues from scarred tissue or any that s*** or nerves every thing it's fine I'm fine. And I'm learning an you're teaching me and it's great love you man God bless you keep them coming.😎 I think I might have told you ive been playing drums since I was 14 and those injuries don't affect my drumming either thank god

    I was always such a militant Roth era fan, yet "Black & Blue," for some reason, just slays me.
    I love the riff, his off the cuff approach in the fills & solo, and the tone is perfect.
    Really, really love that song since '88.

  • @joebob344
    @joebob344 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Beginner question here.
    When you click on a pedal on does it override your amp settings? I know when it's off your sound comes from the settings on your amp. Basically does all the tone come from the pedal while engaged?

    • @Ranch5150SkinWalker
      @Ranch5150SkinWalker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I always run high gain on my amp and just roll back on the volume to clean up. You can use a distortion pedal to do that but I find that an amp with a high gain setting sounds fuller when rolled back for a cleaner tone. I don't like overdrive pedals. I just like a warm and mid range high gain amp setting. (Brown sound as Eddie called it)

    • @joebob344
      @joebob344 ปีที่แล้ว

      But a pedal will override your amp settings until it's off? If it's on I can fiddle with the amp controls and it won't change the sound?

    • @Ranch5150SkinWalker
      @Ranch5150SkinWalker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joebob344 if you have a clean amp a distortion pedal will do that yes. It will make the amp have distortion when on. Whatever setting the amp is on before you engage the distortion pedal will be there when you turn off the pedal.
      I just use the volume knob in my guitar to control all that since my amp has a high gain setting for distortion I like.

    Hey Marty!! What quick delay settings are you using?

    • @Ranch5150SkinWalker
      @Ranch5150SkinWalker  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hey man! I run a stereo delay. Left side about 250-300 ms. Right side 500-600 ms. Just depends on my mood. I run it usually with about 25% feedback and 10-15% mix. Unless I really want it wet then I go about 20-25% mix.

Sometimes I think the way Eddie approached the guitar is the complicated part. His feel and aggression and ability to make it sound so good! Marty I have a request:
    (I know you can’t answer everything that’s ok I’m just throwing it out there because you’re the only one that I know that can do this)
    The song “You and Your Blues”. The guitar part can’t be heard, like a TON of Ed’s music, the commercial version doesn’t do it Justice.
    I listen to a lot of VH covers to actually hear what Ed is feeling.
    And it’s incredible!
    You don’t hear the beauty, intricacies and fun of the music on the radio!
    I can’t read music I only feel it. Plus I’m a drummer. 😳
    Your channel here is fantastic for that, and much more!
    But if you could play the chorus on You and Your Blues, I think it would be awesome! (The part where Dave sings “your bad mood’s permanent…”)
    What is the guitar doing there? It feels happy! I must know! Lol
    I’ve been trying to isolate the guitar but they have copyright on THAT album only, so a program like Moises doesn’t work. (Dammit Al !!)
    Thanks either way, great frikin’ channel!! 👍

      That's pretty cool man. I went to the Guinness world book of records at the half shell on Charles River back in 94 I think. Ben Orr was there playing the drums, I did get to meet him. and the guys that do dirty water love that dirty water. I forget the name of the band, everybody brought a guitar and it was the most guitars playing one song in 1 time for a Guinness world book record thing. I got a stand up cardboard silhouette of Ed and gave it to my daughter it's a shame but she lost it. Good times. There is a video on TH-cam I'm actually in a piece of it standing there watching on the corner of the stage right after meeting Ben.

I have a Friedman BE patch I have tweaked just a little (eq and gain) and use 2 Friedman IR's I have loaded in the Fractal. It makes it sound huge when I run in stereo. I add the reverb and delay in pro tools just so I can mix it later (more or less) if I decide to change my mind once I'm done shooting the video.

    These are great but I feel like my playing has hit a wall lately. Just started playing in December of last year.

      I suggest to start playing leads and improvising over some jam tracks. Find some funk tracks in em or G Maj at about 90-110 beats per minute.

      @@Ranch5150SkinWalker I have been trying to ramp up the metronome pace the last few sessions, I think that’s helped. Thanks for the advice.

    Eddie is the reason I became obsessed with guitar and began playing. I have always been afraid to try his stuff because there is so much magic that he adds to every song in between riffs, etc…thinking I would never do it justice. Your approach as a teacher is awesome…I recently purchased the Frankenstein replica that you are playing here and I am now motivated to learn as many riffs as possible. Including ain’t talking about love! thank you!

    Marty, I had pretty much stayed away from VH licks, but I am in hard now. I do want to hear the tones from the PS Ibanez . I saw VH on their first tour with Sabbath, in around ‘78 in Niagara Falls. At the end of the set, EVH left his guitar against the amp wide open , feedbacking , and left the stage. It seemed disrespectful to me as an 18 year old , especially to sabbath. His tone and licks are cool, Everything is derivative, but he adds his own unique flavor, which you capture.

      Man glad to hear you are working on some of the VH now. It's a fun rabbit hole to go down man! I posted a video of the Ibanez. It's pretty bad ass man. I love it. And it feels great!! I really appreciate the support and also for the kind words man. 😎☮️
