Beautiful, the strings on the women, the patriarchy playing her like a puppet. The ever tumultous relationship between a desi mother and her daughter.
You can already see in the cmmnts, the complaints abt the woman showing her skin, how ironic under a vdo on the portrayal of internalized misogyny.
Good work by the team💜
Everything in this video is so superb. Only complaint is that the subtitles are not accurate. I don't speak Punjabi but I understand Hindi well enough to know that some of the captions are off. For instance, "Dhee maange laad ladaiyan" is translated as "The daughter wants to be seen." I would translate it as "The daughter asks for pleasure" or less literally but more on track: "The daughter asks to live as she wishes." Another example "Penche ladai di" is translated as "she locks horns" but the actual reference is to pulling the strings of a kite during a kite-flying contest. So I would translate it as "She tugs and pulls hard at the string." Unfortunately, there were other places where I felt something is off but my Hindi is not able to fill in the gaps. I would love it if someone with a strong background in both Punjabi and English tries a full translation of the song and posts it here.
hey, i speak punjabi. a lot of times, translations are such because out of context and in English, direct translations can give the wrong message. mostly because of cultural differences. cultural items are enjoyed most by native speakers and are surface level for non-native speakers
Poetry is not always directly translated. I have worked in the subtitling and translation industry and the rule is always for the native speaker to translate to English. No one else can do justice to it. No one language can be directly translated to another, and unless you speak that language as a native speaker, you can't translate it to it's fullest translation.
What a mesmerizing story telling 😍
The makeup, the music, the clothes, the lyrics, the dance, the video everything was spot on!
The marionette symbolism depicting the life of a woman along with those lyrics was just amazing.
Also,Mamya did a great job with the dance, very talented woman indeed.

Is there a traditional theatre/dance used in this? Or any inspiration from it? What would it be called?
The dancer in Ghagra expressed so well ..what’s her name
Amazing. Is this Urdu or another language?
It's punjabi
can not you see the difference.
I was, it sounds quite different. But it also sounds different from usual Punjabi, I tried google translating some words into Gurmukhi and it can’t recognize it
@@thaluthathaluth3246 it has saraiki Urdu n Hindi touch.sraiki words hard to understand.btw I tired subtitles n I was like oh is ka yai mtlb hai 😂
It is lovely but only if you could avoid the subtle incorporation of skin show and nudity, it would have been a masterpiece
This piece is about patriarchy and it's effects on women. There is no nudity in this, and the woman who was showing her stomach looked beautiful. Please dont try to stifle the different facets of womanhood again
@tasnimahsankhan501 but we live in Pakistan, Don't promote these acts of nudity and try to justify them. She could have looked way more beautiful when covered. Don't promote the objectification of female body. Disrespecting one female's body is like Disrespecting women in entirity. Stop hiding under the feminism cover. Give equal rights to women instead, Not the right to remove clothes in public. It is just what west did to its women...no rights, no modesty, only single mothers, fighting for money in paternity courts. Wake up...
This intolerance is literally the problem. There is no nudity and wtf is skin show? Women have bodies… deal with it
@tasnimahsankhan501 she kinda proved the video's point, in patriarchy, a woman is only recognized if she's covered. if not, she's thrown off because she "isn't modest", no matter her intentions or message
😂😂😂.
Where do you see the nudity 😂😂
❤
Beautiful ❤
