    Everyone keeps on about the small wheel. It’s great and there is no problem seeing the instruments unless you deliberately line the wheel up to do that. I have had a 2008 SUV and at the moment a 3008 SUV. All I say is sit in it and if you can’t get comfortable don’t buy it. I love the position and have no problem with seeing the dials.

    I still cannot believe Australians refuse to let go of this power play that they think is the number one thing in Australia. Sadly the same bogans still can't/won't understand why there is no auto manufacturing anymore in this country. The world changed years ago and we need to catch up. The fact that Peugeot are sold in over 160 countries worldwide says more about Aussies than it does Peugeot. Great and honest car review by the way.

    Another great and fair review Curt. Crazy that the obsession with SUVs has limited our choice of well-sorted wagons like the 308. Such a shame that we've abandoned any semblance of manual gearboxes in Euro cars that are well-sorted for them. Mazda3 seems to be the last man(ual) standing from entry level to the Astina G25 (which I own) and offers excellent drivability not to mention impressive average fuel consumption (5.8l/100 over 35000km, virtually all on highway and rural roads). Not sure if I'd commit to another French, let alone European, car these days though the dream is kept alive in my 1974 DS 23 Pallas! Happy motoring to you and the team in 2023, Antony.

    I have a 307 2.0L Petrol wagon with 103kW (138HP) and I leave most people standing at the lights. Partly due to the tiptronic gearbox, which is quick off the mark. It's 1400 kg, so slightly heavier than this 308GT. Power is good enough, but when you load it up with four adults and baggage, you do feel the weight. It'll kick down gears so you can pass anything doing less than 130kph without any drama. I think people protest too much about the lack of power. However, I'm also old enough that I too would hesitate to buy a 1.3L... even in a motorbike!

    I want to love it- there is very little choice in the small station wagon segment now Golf wagon will not be continuing here. I am at least interested enough to grant it a test drive when I am next in the market. But to me an underpowered wagon doesn't make sense. The fuel figures don't seem much better than a Golf/Skoda 1.4L. I like the quality look of the interior, but the angular dash treatment and the instrument cluster/wheel arrangement seems to be something "only the French would think of".

    It appears that this reviewer is not as enamoured with this 308 as Tom was with the hatch a few weeks ago. I think it has a lot going for it , although being fully loaded the price reflects this. I’m not sure why Peugeot didn’t use the more powerful version of this motor as in the 2008 and I think this will be a problem for the Australian market. It is certainly more attractive and a better drive than the Mk8 Golf and deserves to do well. For Peugeot enthusiasts out there, they will love it.

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tom here. The extra 184kg (as tested) moved by the same 96kW doesn’t help! You can just about get away with it in the hatch if you keep it on the boil but the wagon is 1476kg actual…

I’m someone who will buy a wagon as long as there’s a good one to buy, but this needs the engine from the 508, otherwise it’s over to Skoda to replace my Megane GT wagon which is better than this car, but just aging.
