Thanks for taking the time to make this video; it saved me some precious time. At the end of the video, you mentioned that you had to remove a plastic clip from the original back cover. Mine fit just fine without any modifications.👌🏼
Hey thanks for your comment and taking the time to watch the video. Pleased you found it useful, I couldn’t find any of this information so wanted to share the love with others in a similar position after taking a punt and having a positive experience 💪
I got this unit. My mmi is rmc type and u ordered the suitable one but when I install it just tells me mmi is switched off and I can't get it to come on. Any ideas or installation videos u recommend
I installed this on my a6 c7 today. The hardest part is finding somewhere to put those Bulky wires. Also, it will blow your MMI fuse. It blows 5-35 amp. im currently using a 40 amp, and that seems to be working perfectly
Hey pleased I could help. Exactly why I wanted to make the video and share the info as I found it really hard to find myself. Best of look on your A7 hunt 👌
Question about the ambient lighting, you think you can make a video on that? I’m interested in adding ambient lighting in my c7.5 S6 to change the white ambient lighting to colors but not sure how difficult the install is on these cars. Thanks!
Amazing video! Thank for that! I have just received mine today and already started fitting it but I am having some difficulties. 1 - the box stays on at all the times even when looking the car 2 - then I am pressing Car button, trying to see the original meniu from the car, the screen is blank 3 - there are some wires for the dashboard speaker, do I need to connect them to it? To the speaker in the middle of the dashboard? Any suggestions? Thank you
This looks like a perfect upgrade, working flawlessly with the car factory system. It's perfect for a perfectionist 😄. Is it hard to find a perfect dash color & trim match for an A6 like you did for your car?
thanks for this video...Ive been looking at jsut getting a retrofit box to use with the existing screen and didnt even realise a retrofit screen was possible....this has to be the way forward and seem like a decent price too...I assume the different size memory versions are if you want to install more andoird apps onto the base system...and realy not needed if I will only be using Carplay
Hey pleased you found it useful. Yeah the larger memory is probably better for that but for CarPlay you probably won't really need it. I went for it just to make sure I would haven plenty in case. I believe there is also now a Snapdragon one which is a faster processor so I would recommend getting that one and paying the extra. Not that I have any complaints about mine but faster is always better :)
Very Cool thanks a lot, that saved me a lot of time searching. Which version did you buy? There are always 3 options for a certain car that to my understanding only differ in the amount of internal storage the unit comes with?
Nice video, informative. However after I purchased the same product and instaled it there are two very negative items. First one is refelction during the day. It is almost impossible to read the information on the screen ( especially if passengers wear white clothing and sun is hitting frontally ) since it is not Matte like the OEM display . Next negative item is during the night you will get the reflection of the unit on the very top of the windshield no mater what settings are on for the displey. That is because the OEM screen is tucked in like 1cm while the new one is not. For night driving I found out that tilting the visor up will hide that annoying reflection. For the daytime driving possiby installing a matte screen protector is the solution but have to find one larger, cut it to fit and install it which will be huge PITA. So far I had asked around and did not find any professionals who are willing to install the matte protector and I asked a lot, and neither phone/tablet/pholio installers would agree to do it. So , if anyone considers buying such a product please take into these two annoying negatives. At some point I was thinking to switch back to original MMI and just install module for carplay and keep OEM. Can say that German designers have taken great attention to details but cannot say that for Chinese ones who left those two unattended. I am still torn to go back to OEM.
Hey thanks for you comment and additional feedback and honest review contributions. I personally haven’t notice any issues likes this however I do have factory tinted windows all round and live in the UK with not very much sunshine lol
Do you have any advice for pushing back / re-placing the quadrilock? This is actually what worries me the most, that I can't push the mmi unit back properly? Thanks again for all your answers!
Hi, my only advice is take your time and be patient. It took me almost an hour to wrestle it back and get in a place where I could slide the MMI uni back in properly. It helps to take the glove box out and access the wiring from the side to help wiggle it back. Try not to force it too much as you risk damaging the wires which would be a nightmare to fix. My hands were cut to bits by the end lol. Good luck 🤞 😉
Great video! I was in the process of purchasing this head unit and wanted to get some feedback on YT. I have two questions what is the screen split ratio between maps and music apps when in CarPlay and is that ratio adjustable ? Secondly what interior lighting have you installed ? I couldn’t find a video on your channel.
Hi, I actually removed the glove box (couple of screws) rather than the side panel and tie wrapped the control box to the metal frame just above the side panel. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching :)
Dear, I plan to buy the same (fixed version), because I have a fault mmi (mib2 plus) that randomly freeze and reboots, so I have to use key combination to reset it immediately when the issue happens (and for a minute I lost phone connection, navigation etc). Can you verify if the screen stay alive if the oem mmi is restarted by using key combination? If the power of the screen is independent from mmi I can solve my problems at a fraction of the cost. Probably I will lost audio output from aux (that use internal amplifier) for a couple of seconds but is tolerable is the screen remains on. Thank you in advance
easy to understand video, I like many others been looking for something as close as OEM possible, I don’t have usb just an ami connection in centre console. Couple of questions 1. Is the sound quality affected on A7 Bose speakers? 2. Can you connect front camera or 360 cam to it and any issues doing so with function. Thank you
Hi thanks for your comment. In short I haven't noticed any issues with sound quality in mine and didn't need to connect anything to the physical Aux ports on my install. The connection is all via bluetooth to the unit and plays through that as bluetooth Aux input. In relations to the 360 camera I don't actually have that on my just the rear camera. When you put the vehicle into reverse the screen automatically flips to the OEM system for reversing camera so I would assume it will just display as normal through that. At this point the screen is the just a monitor for the OEM MMI display if that makes sense. I hope this helps. I will be doing a follow up video very soon to answer a lot of these common questions as a walk through so keep a look out.
Hey, love your videos! - I just installed the screen and everything is well, however, the audio from the aftermarket box is not working on the Bose system. I can only listen to music via Bluetooth on the audio MMI system. I am not getting any sort of audio from the screen.
Did you have to activate Aux via green screen? Can someone help me out here. No audio coming from Apple car play system - have to play music via audi Bluetooth system in background.
Thanks for the video. Wanted to know did you go with the exact one you link in the video or did you go with the 9" retractable? Want mine to fit flush when retracted. Thanks
Hey thanks for watching the video. Yes I went for the exact one in the link. Make sure you select the one compatible with your current MMI model. Following a previous comment I am also led to believe that the new, slightly more expensive ‘Snapdragon’ option available is even better in terms of processor. However I have no complaints at all with mine in terms of speed.
Thanks for the response. Mine is also MHI2. But just want to clarify are all the displays 9" and the only difference between the one you went with and the option at the end is the processor (snapdragon)? The one you went with doesn’t say the size of the display. Thanks again.
Hey there. Very nice video and i love the screen. It looks awesome good! Thanks for the link 😄 What did you have to uninstall to get that new screen installed and how? I'm looking to install this screen on my RS6 too. And i saw this cool LED lightning in your car. How did you install this thing? It looks perfect! And the last question 😉 Did you ever replaced the fuel injectors on your RS6? My one already run 87.000 miles and im about to replace or clead the fuel injectors. Do you have any hints on that?
My only issue is the bluetooth connection both the MMI and the android box have connectivity. its impossbible to turn off the MMI bluetooth fofr good, has to be done every time you start the car else its a pain when the MMI answers and not the car play module. I added a reversing camera and additional GPS antenna, very happy overall
do you mean when taking call son your phone? if they are both conencted at started, what happens if you use carplay to answer? can you just delete your phone from MMI?
Hi thank you for the detailed video. I wasnt able to find one before. By any chance, do you have any instructions on how to do this? I am looking to order the same box but not really a DIY person until now so any instruction would be really helpful. Also Is there any issues with this since you have installed it as well as any screen resolution issues compared to OEM screen resolution? Thanks in advance!
Hi did you manage to find one? Or any instruction manuals online anywhere? I'm trying to install but can't find any clear tutorial videos or an instructions manual online
Thank you so much for the video. It is very clear and informative. I noticed they suggest getting an ami aux adapter from them, which you don’t even mention. Is there really a need for that connection? I'm on the android platform. However, they don’t point out any distinction.
Hi thanks for watching, pleased you found it useful. No you don't need any additional cables with this particular unit, everything was in the box and it was a plug and play job for me. However that may not be the case for other similar units. Hope this helps
I'm having an issue with the system, it keeps blowing the MMI fuse. I started from 5 amp it works on a 40 amp fuse for like 2 days until it blows that one as well. I'm lost I don't want to go any higher than 40 amp. Any advice or suggestions....
Hi there any idea why mine is not giving any sound. I’ve connected the wires to the dash speaker and m using media like you said but there’s no sound. Everything works perfectly just the sound is not there. Thanks in advance for any feedback
I have this also installed in a A6Allroad 2016. All is working great with only one small bug...the phone connection is weird. I can hear the person I talk to perfect but the person on the other end can hear himself like an little echo!! Have you had this problem. My mic is in the roof like the org mic
This is really helpful as I'm looking at this for my A6 - does the audio work through a cable to the Aux in 0 seen that in one of the install videos, and did you have to fit a small speaker behind the unit? I've seen mention of a small speaker that needs fitting - is that the case for this? Thanks Justin
Hi Justin thanks for your question, for this particular unit and my install I didn't need to plug or run any additional cables to the Aux port under the arm rest Or any additional speakers. I also saw those similar videos but neither were required for my install. The wiring harness and control box was just a plug and play into the OEM wiring. Hope this helps
Very perfect Video! I have a question regarding Sound system: mine have Bose Surround System- this unit also controls the Bose Sound-System? Imagine your RS6 also has a Sound-System installed….Thanks in advance and best regards!
Hey thanks for watching, yes I also have Bose sound system and the sound isn't effected by the screen. It runs the Audi and normal through the MMI system. Its basically like pugging your phone into your Hifi system via Aux connection. The screen is just the display. Hope this helps.
Hi great video I had Coika 10inch system in my last car 4 years ago and its still running fine. Can I ask what exactly comes in the box, the one you have kindly linked in the description doesn't mention in the accessories the extra ( host box or decoder box required for car play ) just the necessary cables. Is the decoder box included? and it says you require an extra ami cable what is that used for?
Hi thanks for your kind comment and watching the video. So the screen comes with a wiring harness and a box (i assume this is that decoder) that plugs into the wiring harness and feeds into the screen. CarPlay works wirelessly once everything is connected. You do get an additional gps areal and a SIM card reader if you want to run a dedicated 4/5g sim card but I didn’t bother with either of these. It also comes with a microphone which I found I had to use for call audio. For some reason it didn’t pick up through the factory mics but I could have missed something potentially. I ran the microphone under the dash and behind the drivers side A pillar right in the top corner. For me it’s not noticeable and call audio is great. Everything for me was plus and play right out of the box and I didn’t need any additional wires or parts to get it running. Just abit of time and patience to get the additional harness back far enough to reinstall everything.
Hello I bought the same device. But I have a problem everything works fine but when I hit the blinker left or right the carplay stops music stops and the Car goes to factory settings and when I turn off the blinker it goes back to carplay. Very annoying.
Just had mine installed, but the screen sticks out from the dash when down… it doesn’t come with one of those “special pieces” that I may or may not have to install on the new screen…
Hey, great news 💪. I basically watched as many different ones as I could to get a good sense of how the dash trim came apart and roughly how the wiring went together. Search A6 android screen install. Tim Reid A6 is quite a good all rounder one to be fair and I found it pretty useful 👍. Good luck with your install
Yes i managed to instal the screen; worked through the wiring how ever my speakers and the Audi media module does not work; would u think there is a issue with the wiring loom?
It’s more likely you have just missed a connection. Did you plug the original wire that came out the back of the OEM screen, into the back of the new box as well? . I needed to cut the black tape back on that wire to free up enough length to run that down the side and plug it into the box. Obviously the new wire still still runs from the box into the back of the screen.
Tbh the original connection that went in the OEM screen I left it out maybe that’s what’s causing the Audi multimedia module to not power up, however I found that if I plug in the OEM wiring loom to the Audi multimedia module it power up but if I plug it in through the wiring loom given with the new screen it down not, regardless if I have the plug that went in to the original screen plugged in to the box or not
Sorry if this has been asked, the ali express link show a product that seems to be for LHD cars, me in the uk needs RHD ... or does it just fit both? Also on the control unit is there an input for a reversing camera as my A6 doesnt have one yet. Appreciate any help and your video.
Hey, I can’t see that making a difference, however Cokia are really responsive to messages if you want to double check. In relation to reversing camera, yes you can install an aftermarket one with this screen, however you will probably need to do some additional wiring to make it work properly 👍
Thanks for watching and pleased you found it helpful 💪. Yes the reverse camera works flawlessly. As soon as you put the car into reverse it automatically flicks over to the OEM camera reverse screen and then flicks back to whatever you had it in when you put it back in drive/park 👍.
@@InDadsGarageis the quality of the image from cameras better with the new screen? The picture quality is really bad in the OEM one, and I wondered if it is only the camera resolution that is to blame or it is also the resolution of the screen
You may know ... all fitted, screen works but it doesnt lift up! All wires connected and checked, ive not bolted everything back in yet, but something isnt happy. No sound but i havent a cable yet from the headphone jack to the mmi. Also heater controls not shown on the screen (the screen that is stuck down) 😂😂 And my screen stick out, i see a small pack of bits in a bag without any instructions as to what they do, but 2 parts look like the audi screen plastic runner parts ... maybe spares in case i break to lose one i dont know. Dont you just love it, any help greatly appreciated, ill ask mr ali express too, but you many know!
Hey, sounds like you are having abit of a nightmare lol In regards to the screen not lifting up, I would say you must have and OEM connection missing or not plugged in as the screen motor is managed by the car rather than the aftermarket screen. Just check its all plugged in right. Also the little bag of black bits will be the replacement spacer/reducer to allow the screen to sit further back. I didn’t need to fit this on mine but sounds like you might need to.
@InDadsGarage thank you. I've just watched Tim's video and I understand what I need to do there now to get it looking flush! I've double checked again the connector for the motor is all plugged in, like you say that's seperate.... I'll persevere 🤣🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for this video, it convinced me to go ahead and get the screen. I installed it at the weekend (8 hours all in) and all seems fine with it at the moment. However the safety systems light has come on the dahsboard and a code reset with carscanner app doesn't fix it. I suspect it's something to do with the airbag as I had to disconnect it when removing the glovebox. Did you have any issues with it?
I had the same issue. If you unplug the glove box and accedently turn ignition on, you'll get the airbag light on the dash. I got rid of the light by disconnecting battery for 20mins. Disconnect both black and red. Only black doesnt help.
Thanks for this. It inspired me to purchase the unit! My audio keeps switching from the require aux input on the audi mmi to wifi. This now requires me to manually change it back every time i start the car. How did you deal with this? Is there a way to set aux to default?
Hi, good question and something I had an issue with also. Try disconnecting/forgetting Audi MMI and just using Bluetooth connection. You can only use one at a time and you need the head unit Bluetooth for full flexibility and use.
Hello mate, great video I found it very informative. I understand you have put the link for the screen below, thanks for sharing it. But upon going to Ali express I found that there is all different kind of screens in there. How do I know which one would work best for a Audi a6 c7.5 2015 ? If u could advise mate that would be great thanks
Hi, thanks for watching and pleased you found it useful. You will need to pick the one that matches your MMI model, MR12 , HN-R, RMC, etc. To find out what model your car is running you can check this in the settings. If you search ‘how to find out MMI model on A6 C7’ there are plenty videos showing you how to access this info on the green screen. Then choose if you want the 64g or 128g version. Hope that helps 👍
Brilliant informative video. Thank you. Does the voice command button on steering wheel work when in Carplay? ie can you activate Carplay voice commands just by pressing the steering wheel button?
Hi thanks for watching, unfortunately not, that is still connect directly the the OEM interface. You can use the siri function on CarPlay via the touchscreen however but its not quite the same. Hope that helps
Hi Today I just installed a display from Coika. My question is what did you do when you changed the heating shown on the display??? When I have the door open, it shows me on the display, but it does not show heating change Tkank you.
Hey man, thanks for the video, you answered questions I too have searched for online and not gotten answers to! I’m wondering how easy the set up was for CarPlay on the unit? Any special things you had to do or issues you had on initial setup? Coming from a car with native CarPlay, hoping the unit you have (that I am ordering) is just as easy. Also, it’s only been a few weeks, but is the unit still holding up as it should? Thanks in advance!
Hey thanks for your comment and pleased you found the video useful. CarPlay set up is as simple as connecting your phone to the Bluetooth on the unit and away you go. It automatically connects wirelessly and runs. Z-Link is the app that connect your CarPlay. In terms of reliability, I’ve actually had it installed about 6 months now and I love it. No issues at all 👌
Great video. I was looking to upgrade the OEM MMI in my C7 A6 but all I could find was shoddy software upgrade guides that seemed to cause more issues! I do have 1 question, does the parking sensors still work when in reverse? Have you had any issue with battery drainage or when you've gone to service/MOT the car, is the garage still able to view/update everything?
Hey thanks for watching and pleased you have found the video useful. Yes parking sensors/reversing cameras all still work. When putting it into reverse the display automatically switches the OEM MMI display and then back to whatever you had on last when taking it out of reverse. In relation to battery draining, no issues with that. I guess that’s more down to someone wiring them in wrong but this is all plug and play from my experience. The screen works as a duel system so it displays the factory MMI system through the screen but can switch to the touch screens interface. It won’t effect any access or updating of the OEM MMI. Think of it as plugging two different computers into one screen and toggling the display between them both.
Just ordered one for my software version! Forgot to ask which video(s) would you recommend to watch to remove any trims or the cd and climate units? Also how did you remove the side panel for the control box? I'm guessing you had to route all current wires into the control box, and then connect the output wires/harnesses back into each unit? Also did it come with any pry tools? Apologises for the barrage of questions!
Hey great stuff, I’m sure you will love it once it’s all hooked up and running. Happy to answer any questions I can to help out 👌. I found the 3 videos by ‘TIm Reid’ on TH-cam helped but to be honest I generally just searched A6 C7 Android head unit install and watched as many as I could until I felt I had a good understanding of how it all came apart and went back together. In Tims video he covers it all pretty well, although he does have a slightly different unit to ours so some of what he’s says isn’t relevant in relation to the wiring. For the control box you are best off taking the glove box out (as seen in Tims video) and tie wrapping it to the centre console frame. The hardest part of the whole thing is getting the wiring harness and connections pushed right at the back and positioned right so you can re-insert the heater controllers. It will take a while, many swear words and lots of cuts and scratches on your hands but I promise you it will be worth it. Plug it all in first and test it out before you start installing everything and putting it back together. You will also need to plug in the microphone that comes with it and run it underneath your dash and up into the top corner of your driver side A pillar for your hand free calling. Put it right in the corner and you will never notice it. Run it behind the rubber in your door jam. You don’t get any trim tools with it but they are cheap enough off eBay or Amazon 👍. Good luck 😉
Hi, first of all thanks for you're this video. I have a question about the additional things in the box: like the antenne, microphone en simcard slot. In my A6 C7 I already have DAB+ and also a simcard slot. I want to keep my car as original as possible. So I want to use the microphone and antenna of the car itself. So can I leave those things out? And can we use internet from the hotspot of our phone instead of the simcard in the box?
Hi thanks for watching the video and taking the time to comment. Yes in the box it does come with an extra DAB antenna and sim car slot. However I choose not to install these as I also wanted to keep the car as stock as possible. I only use the screen for CarPlay so don't use any of the screens other functionality. I just flick between CarPlay and the OEM interface. However if you wanted to play DAB radio via an app downloaded on the screen then you would need to install the antenna. I just use the OEM radio. In relation to the SIM card slot you don't need that if you just connect the screen to another wifi source. Unfortunately I found I did need to install the microphone in order to make calls through the screen via car play. However I think if you choose to keep your phone connect to the OEM smartphone interface for calls then the OEM microphone will still work as normal. I hope this helps.
@@InDadsGarage Thanks a lot for your extensive answer, I appreciate it. In my other reaction I stated that I installed it last week and nothing seemed to work unfortunately! After contacting Coika, they have sent me an update for the software. So i am going to try it again to install it. The only thing is the microphone indeed, I really want to keep the OEM microphone, so I hope I can figure it out. I think I will connect the android system with the wifi of my car, so it has an internet connection: this way I will be able to leave out the simcard slot, GPS en 4G antenna. You said you had the system for over 6 months right? May I ask if you are still satisfied with it? And do you have advise how to push back / where to put the quadrilock because in every video I hear it's hard to push it back?
Hi, sorry you have had trouble with yours. Mine has been installed now for almost 9 months and works perfect no issues at all. Literally just plug and play. Couple of things to note: Did you order the screen that matched your MMI model eg: MH12, RCM or HN-R as I understand if you don’t get the one to match your MMI model then it might not work properly. Also in the setup menu you can select a car model and year and it formats the screen size etc. I think I set my to a Q5 as the didn’t have an A6 option. Try keeping your phone connect to the OEM Bluetooth and make a call and see if factory mic still works. My theory it is should but to be honest since installing mine I set it up with CarPlay and have only ever used that via the additional mic. In relation to the screen fitment. Mine came with an extra replacement plastic hinge bracket (thingy)but I didn’t actually use this. I just connected new screen directly back onto the housing. Like for like swop and fitment was fush. For yours you might have to replace the little hinge thing. The only video I found that kind of shows this in on the channel: VOYEEGO / video title: installation guiding 9” A6 C7 A7 2012-2018 Android Screen I hope that helps you somewhat and you get it sorted. 👍
@@InDadsGarage you are a legend for answering everyone so extensively! I certainly have the right model, an MHi2, even with the snapdragon. I tried all A6 options for image format, but they didn't work. Next time I'll go through all the formats one by one. As for the microphone, I will certainly try to keep the original one, but otherwise I will install the supplied microphone. Did you place this next to the A-pillar on the driver's side? I was thinking of installing it under the grille on the dashboard (where the small speaker is also located), but I will see what the quality is like if I do it that way. I indeed assumed that I had to use the (smaller) plastic piece for the screen, but I will first try to convert the screen without replacing the plastic part. It would safe me a lot pain in the ass I think. My (for now) last question to you: do you have any advice for pushing back / replacing the quadrilock? This is actually what worries me the most, that I can't push the mmi unit back properly? Thanks again for all your answers!
Very nice review upgrade for my A6 Avant with the basic MMI. Question, on 4:40 when you slide the screens it looks to respond with quite some lag. Is that correct? On Ali they have the Snapdragon type as well. But this isn't that one right?
Hey thanks for your comment and for watching the video. A feel people have commented on that part and said it looks laggy. While filming I was trying to swipe and touch the screen while looking through my camera screen so didn’t make the best contact with my finger on the screen (light touch). Hence why it seem to move slightly slower. In my opinion it operates really smoothly and is very responsive. I have put the link to the screen I have in the description box, but I’m not sure about Snapdragons 🐉 😀
@@InDadsGarage OK glad to hear that, thanks! About that Snapdragon, if you look to the last 3 items where you have to select which type, you will see it has a newer and faster Snapdragon processor. But also more expensive offcourse 😞
Last question. Do the next track and previous track buttons near the shifter work? I know you mentioned aux must be selected so I am wondering if those still function while connected to CarPlay.
Hey thanks for your question. Yes the skip track buttons near the shifter work with CarPlay to skip tracks. I tend to use those mainly for skipping tracks as it’s easy to locate without taking eyes off the road 👍. Obviously you can also skip tracks on the touchscreen too.
Great video. But I have one question, you probably have 360 cams in your car. When you parking and switch from R to D does the rear camera image switch to the front camera or does the device menu image? appear?
Hi thanks for your comment. I don’t have 360 cameras just the reversing camera. However when switching from Drive into reverse it automatically switches to the OEM reversing camera display which you would control via the normal OEM controls as you would originally. When going back into drive the screen will switch back to what ever you had it on last. Hope that helps.
@@InDadsGarage It's exactly as you say. Unfortunately, with 360 cameras, when you switch from R to D, the image from the front camera appears and after exceeding a given speed, the image returns to the menu. Unfortunately, this is not the case with this device. Too bad, I was hoping it was a settings issue and you know this problem. Thank you for your answer.
@@H43R21does the parking button work with this unit? My car has 360 parking sensors and stock when I hit the parking button the sensors come up on screen
Im looking to buy one for my RMC. Did you fix the problem or is the screen still sticking out? Also, do you use the AMI cable in the arm rest? Also, does your phone automatically and smoothly connect to carplay every time?
Great video!! Question, does it have the ability to load other apps onto device like the other 10.25" options out there? Like TH-cam, Netflix etc or are you stuck with just what android auto/carplay offers??? Thanks again... will be ordering one if so.
Hey thanks for watching and kind feedback. Yes you can download all of those apps via android store if you choose too, just like on all the other Android head units you might have seen similar videos on. Hope this helps.
Ok, now I need one of those in my life!! Thanks for the very informative video. What does the RAM do in terms of performance, why not just opt for min spec?
Hi, I have the HN+R model in my 2017 rs6 perf but there doesn’t seem to be a compatible option in the aliexpress link. Would you know if the earlier year HN+R version would work?
Hi thanks for your comment. I don’t think the registration year of the car makes a difference so much it just the version of the MMI it’s self. I can’t imagine there is a difference between the years but it might be work emailing Cokia to check.
Great video. Thanks for sharing!!! I've been looking for an Android/CarPlay system for a long while now. So far, you're the only one who has installed this really professionally and cleanly!!! As if it comes from the Audi factory...wooow!!! Very, very good work. I have a few questions before I order the same. - Are you still using the device? Satisfied? Would you buy the same device again? - Quality of phone and sound? - Should I order something separately for installation (e.g. Ami to Aux cable, additional USB cable for the glove box, additional GPS adapter cable to split the signal from the mma, microphone, installation tools, ...)? - Any certifications like the CE mark? Thanks again for your upload and your answers :)
Hi thanks for watching the video and pleased you found it helpful 👌. To answer your question in order - I have had it installed for 12 months now almost and it’s working perfectly for me and I am very happy with it for what I use it for which is mainly for Apple CarPlay. - yes I would buy it again. - no I didn’t need to buy and additional cables for my install, everything I needed was in the box. You will need to install the microphone that comes with it. - at the time of ordering I didn’t notice a Snapdragon version so mine is just the normal one but I would assume the snapdragon one will be slightly faster. - in relation to operating, in my opinion it is not slow or laggy at all in comparison to my OEM touch screen in my Audi S3. I think in the video it looks slow on one particular part as I didn’t make proper contact with the screen as I was trying to operate it while filming it looking at my phone screen. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 👍
Hi great video, ive purchased one of these head units off the basis of your review/experience. Ive found that the original MMI car pages etc are not clear not crisp like you have. Not sure if you came across this issue
Hi thanks for watching. No fortunately I have not had that issue with mine, simple plug and play. It could potentially be a bad connection somewhere on the harness. I hope you get it sorted, best of luck.
@@clouceo9932 Hi, as far as i can find out the RMC units do not have the resolution to support this size screen.. its a minor compromose with what functions you get, hope this helps :)
hi thank you for the review I’m interested in this screen So do you recommend buying it? And also when you turn the ignition on which system starts first (audi MMI or the android) and does carplay start automatically or you have to press something on the screen ? Thx a lot
Hi thanks for your comment and feedback. I personally think its great and really brings the infotainment system up to date with the touch screen and CarPlay. However some people seem to be having problems, that could be user/installer error OR unlucky with product quality. All I can speak from is my own honest experience and I love it. When turning the ignition on the screen boots on what ever display it was last on either OEM display or Android. If on OEM it starts with the RS6 logo, if last on Android/Carplay it start with the Android logo. Car play connect and loads up automatically which is perfect for me as I prefer that display and only use the OEM system for the radio and Car settings. Hope this helps and good luck.
Hey, thanks for your comment and watching the video. No the sound quality it perfect on mine and no difference at all. I play all my music wirelessly through the CarPlay and for me it’s faultless 👌
I just tried to install it and was met with a lot of problems, had some cables that i had nowhere to plug to, others were just like cut off with a rubber cap on it???, android auto wouldnt connect, bluetooth call didnt work i didnt hear the person on the call and he didnt hear me also, gps didnt work, car was throwing around every error it could like TPMS issue, sport diff issue, air suspension issue, ESC issue. The seller sent me some instructions when i received it but nowhere is shown a wiring diagram for every cable i just gotta wing it i guess. Now waiting for a response from the seller. Did you have such issues when installing it yourself?
Hey, sorry to hear you’re having such trouble. I’ll help as much as I can! It was several month ago now since I installed mine so can’t fully remember how all of the wiring went but it was fairly straight forward. Check out Tim Reid’s A6 video as this helped me quite abit with the wiring. I also didn’t have supplied instructions. I just plugged the main harness plugs into the matching plugs and connected that into the box. I didn’t worry about any of the additional wires with capped ends etc and chose not to plug in the GPS or SIM card attachments. These aftermarket wiring harnesses tend to have loads of additional capped off wires for also sorted of extra functionality but it’s not always clear what they do. I did have to plug in the mic supplied with it, and run that under the dash and up the side of the driver A pillar, the factory mic didn’t seem to pick up sound anymore, however speakers where fine. Couple of other key things: did you disconnect your battery before installing? If you didn’t then unplugging all the connectors in your dash will be the reason for all the fault codes. You can clear these easy enough with an OBD2 code reader like a Carista or Carlyor sometime they can clear themselves once you start driving the car. Don’t let them scare you though it always happens when unplugging connectors, just need to clear them. Secondly I found I had to connect the box two ways. I can’t fully remember the way around now, BUT plug the new wire from the new box into the back of the new screen then I had to cut back the tape on the original wire that went into the OEM screen and plug that into the New box. By cutting back the tape wrapped around it you can free up enough length from it to run to the wide and plug in the box. I hope that helps you get yours working 🤞.
@@InDadsGarage When i translated the chinese on the cables i saw the extra cable said to connect from the unit to the blue connector on the multimedia above the AC next to the big square connector. Its the same kind of connector that the screen uses, and when i watched Tim Reid's video he left the old cable of the screen just sitting there and connected the multimedia one in the box as they use the same connector. Also the errors got cleared by themselves thats not a big problem.
@@Anytheros please you got it sorted, The one Tim Reid installed looked slightly different to the one I fitted but it was good to see broadly how the wiring went given the lack of instructions.
how long does it take to cold boot? I bought one of these ali express head units from aliexpress once and I would be a fair way down the road before it finished booting up and finally loaded up waze. curious if this one is a bit closer to that OEM feel where it's ready to go almost immediately
Hey, cold boot is basically the same as OEM. Not like the old cheap Android units. I also have a cheap one in my daily and it take like 90-120 seconds to boot up fully!!
Hi, no I didn’t either with mine but there are quite a few other install videos on TH-cam. I found I had to watch a few different ones to piece all the info together and get a good feel for how best to attack it. Just make sure to use trim tools and take your time unclipping any trims to avoid and snapping anything.
Hello, I have the same unit to fit to my 2013 model, does the OEM screen cable (white connector) stay in place just disconnected? And am I right in saying the new LVDS cable goes into the back of the original head unit in place of the pink connector? Many thanks
Hi from memory (but can’t 100% remember) the new cable goes in the back of the new screen, however you have to connect the pink cable from the original screen back into the new control box. This feeds the OEM input through to the screen. The white one is left redundant now and can be tie wrapped out the way.
You have the freedom to watch what you want when you want with this screen. If connect it to the internet via wifi hotspot or dedicated sim card you can stream TH-cam, Netflix etc.
Yes, still exactly the same as before. The audio is still controlled by the OEM MMI system, the new screen just a display. This has been my personal experience anyway.
Hello, i recently pur😢the same unit as you. Just finished the install on my RS7, everything is working apart from the mic, spoiler and auto start stop. Did you have this issue or any advice.
Hey, thanks for your comments and feedback. You might have sorted it now but if not two suggestions. 1. have you connected the microphone that comes with it? I ran this under the dash and up the side of the driver A-pillor and positioned it right in the corner of the windscreen. For what ever reason I couldn't get the OEM mic to work. 2. In relation to your spoiler/stop-start. mostly likely you will need to plus in an OBD-II dongle and re-set any fault codes that have been thrown from unplugging the connector for the units in your console, especially if you didn't disconnect the battery before installing. Hope that helps and you get it all work. :)
@@InDadsGarage damn I've got to install that mic, the upgrade I done in the A5 I got away without having to install it. Oh well I will get that sorted. Managed to sort the spoiler etc, just the mic then it's perfect.
@@samcook6593 it might be possible without but I couldn’t get it working so just went for the straight forward solution . Let me know if you do work it out though. Worth a shot before taking things to bits again 🤦♂️. Hope the screen works as good for you as it does for me 👌
Sadly I could not get it to work or find anything on the Internet. So the mic is now routed through the sunvisor housing. Sorry I couldn't come back to you with better news
@@JY21430 no problem. Have a look at ‘Tim Reid’ videos on TH-cam. I found them quite useful. Also check out my response in the comments below to @d1shy for more info on similar question 💪. Thanks for watching the video 😀
Hello! I have installed the same screen in my Audi a6 allroad, rmc version. Does anyone know how to change the start logo from “android logo” to an audi logo?
Hi, I looked into this when I first installed it and I couldn't find a way either, usually they have pre installed logos to choose from but not on the settings of this one. It might be possible so will be interested to see feedback from others. What I do know is if you turn the car off on OEM view then on start up the screen loads with the OEM RS6 Logo and vice versa.
i changed the boot logo by downloading one on usb and going in to factory settings and then boot logo. But I can’t find a boot animation to replace the android one. I don’t know where to change it either but I think I can figure that out. Any one got an audi boot animation?
I reached out to Coika and asked about this. They provided me with a file that I just downloaded to a usb. And it was just to plug it in to the screen usb cable and the screen updated automatically. The new boot screen was a animation, the original audi animation I think. Very easy actually
@@InDadsGarageThanks to your video mine arrives this week. Can't wait. If you get that bot logo, would you be able to put it in the cloud for me to download please?
I have the RMC version just recently installed, i had a little bit of trouble trying to put everything back together with the bulky wires, but everything works apart from getting back to the original display to change driver settings
@@InDadsGaragedo I have to buy the AMI cable thing? It says "if car with ami should extra buy ami cable from us" I'm guessing that goes into one of their harnesses?
@@Glennboh95 i have tried that but no joy on it but it still works with everything else, dont know why mine doesnt work like the video but i always keep me car in dynamic, im just waiting a response of coika
Hi thanks for watching, yes you will be able to fit one of these screens to your A6. You will just need to make sure you choose the one compatible with your MMI firmware. There are usually 4-5 different options to choose from on the order page, one for each of the different MMI systems. I would also recommend opting for the highest spec one in terms of memory to ensure it works smoothly. Hope this help, good luck
@InDadsGarage do you sell them? Can I still get functionality and revert back to original menu etc? Do you install these for us or have any installers in westmidlanda area?
Hi thanks for your comment. I haven’t had any problems or issues with mine since fitting it and the sound quality is no different as the as the screen is only for display. All the sound etc is still controlled by the OEM system. I can only comment from my experience and the model i bought. 👍
I didn't plug any additional aux cables its all from the OEM ones. For the CarPlay music/sound I have to select the Aux media output on the car MMI menu. The one you flick between radio /media etc.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video; it saved me some precious time. At the end of the video, you mentioned that you had to remove a plastic clip from the original back cover. Mine fit just fine without any modifications.👌🏼
You're Welcome, pleased it helped and you got it all installed ok :) Thank you for the comment and kind feedback.
Thank you for this video. I’ve genuinely made life so easier😂
Could you possibly do a installation video?
Great video and informative content ! Been looking for this type of setup for months!
It blows 5-35 amp. im currently using a 40 amp, and that seems to be working perfectly
im looking to get and A7 and making a list of needs, and this is one of them, thx a lot mate
Thanks!
Thanks. Do a video on the ambient next 😊
Yes lease
Amazing video! Thank for that!
I have just received mine today and already started fitting it but I am having some difficulties.
1 - the box stays on at all the times even when looking the car
2 - then I am pressing Car button, trying to see the original meniu from the car, the screen is blank
3 - there are some wires for the dashboard speaker, do I need to connect them to it?
Excellent Detailed video! Thank you!
Hello...did you have to use a AMI cable for it to play audio through your factory speakers?
Great video! Can you show how and where you placed the control unit behind the side panel, and how did you remove the side panel? Thanks.
Great video. Great editing !
Thank you so much 🙌😊
easy to understand video, I like many others been looking for something as close as OEM possible, I don’t have usb just an ami connection in centre console.
Couple of questions
1. Is the sound quality affected on A7 Bose speakers?
2. Can you connect front camera or 360 cam to it and any issues
doing so with function.
Thank you
Hi thanks for your comment.
Also, I tried to play music via the AMI aux but the vehicle is not recognizing aux. need some help!!!
Did you have to activate Aux via green screen? Can someone help me out here. No audio coming from Apple car play system - have to play music via audi Bluetooth system in background.
Finally got it to work, had to go into control units on my OBDeleven and enable AUX.
Just one question where did you plug in the mic?
I did the upgrade but now my head lights aren’t working. Any ideas?
I'm having an issue with the system, it keeps blowing the MMI fuse. I started from 5 amp it works on a 40 amp fuse for like 2 days until it blows that one as well. I'm lost I don't want to go any higher than 40 amp. Any advice or suggestions....
It’s the American Ali express??
Hi there any idea why mine is not giving any sound. I’ve connected the wires to the dash speaker and m using media like you said but there’s no sound. Everything works perfectly just the sound is not there. Thanks in advance for any feedback
Have you got the Aux In activated? Can be done in the green engineering menu on the MMI if it's unlocked cked on your car.
How did you install it, do you have a video?
Thank you for your prompt reply their info's a little sketchy 👍
Hello I bought the same device. But I have a problem everything works fine but when I hit the blinker left or right the carplay stops music stops and the Car goes to factory settings and when I turn off the blinker it goes back to carplay. Very annoying.
Just had mine installed, but the screen sticks out from the dash when down… it doesn’t come with one of those “special pieces” that I may or may not have to install on the new screen…
Hi, you probably have the 6.3 inch display unit, isn’t it? May I ask how did you sort it? Thanks
Hi mate, finally got my screen come through; would u recommend any installation videos I can follow ?
Tbh the original connection that went in the OEM screen I left it out maybe that’s what’s causing the Audi multimedia module to not power up, however I found that if I plug in the OEM wiring loom to the Audi multimedia module it power up but if I plug it in through the wiring loom given with the new screen it down not, regardless if I have the plug that went in to the original screen plugged in to the box or not
Pls did you buy the MTK chip or snapdragon chip thanks
Sorry if this has been asked, the ali express link show a product that seems to be for LHD cars, me in the uk needs RHD ... or does it just fit both?
Also on the control unit is there an input for a reversing camera as my A6 doesnt have one yet.
Appreciate any help and your video.
Hey, I can’t see that making a difference, however Cokia are really responsive to messages if you want to double check. In relation to reversing camera, yes you can install an aftermarket one with this screen, however you will probably need to do some additional wiring to make it work properly 👍
How did u get the screen to fully retract.
Hey man, excellent video. How good is the reverse camera flick over?
Also heater controls not shown on the screen (the screen that is stuck down) 😂😂
And my screen stick out, i see a small pack of bits in a bag without any instructions as to what they do, but 2 parts look like the audi screen plastic runner parts ... maybe spares in case i break to lose one i dont know.
How quickly does bluetooth load. My 2012 c7 take 60 seconds. Im tired of it.
Screen probably takes around 60 sec to load up fully but Bluetooth connects automatically and launched CarPlay in that time too
Thanks for this.
Thank you mate

Could you tell me where you bought it? Or provide a link please
Thank you.
No issues at all 👌
@@InDadsGarage Awesome, great to hear. Good video quality and effort, best of luck on growing your channel!
@@InDadsGarage amazing! Thank you for replying. Subbed
Good luck 😉
@@InDadsGarage Won't the OEM microphone in the car work with this system or do i need to wire the additional microphone too?
Couple of things to note:
Did you order the screen that matched your MMI model eg: MH12, RCM or HN-R as I understand if you don’t get the one to match your MMI model then it might not work properly.
The only video I found that kind of shows this in on the channel: VOYEEGO / video title: installation guiding 9” A6 C7 A7 2012-2018 Android Screen
I hope that helps you somewhat and you get it sorted.
Hi mate how did u get those ambient light strips

Mine is sticking out like 1cm when the car is turned off. Any idea? I had rmc with small screen. Otherwise big upgrade from the rmc screen

Hi, I have the HN+R model in my 2017 rs6 perf but there doesn’t seem to be a compatible option in the aliexpress link. Would you know if the earlier year HN+R version would work?

anyone experiencing high pitch sound from dashboard speaker? dependant on the colors displayed on the screen?
To answer your question in order
- I have had it installed for 12 months now almost and it’s working perfectly for me and I am very happy with it for what I use it for which is mainly for Apple CarPlay.
Thank you for taking your time and answering all the questions. I've ordered it now too. 👍👍
Does the Waze/Google maps show up on the virtual dash in the cluster like the original maps do?
No unfortunately not. Only the OEM interfaces display on the dash cluster.
Hi, I have this issue too, did you manage to sort it out?
@@clouceo9932 Hi, as far as i can find out the RMC units do not have the resolution to support this size screen.. its a minor compromose with what functions you get, hope this helps :)
hi
thank you for the review
I’m interested in this screen
So do you recommend buying it?

Hi. Does it change the sound quallity? Someone mentioned that the sound quallity is poor when listening carplay on android auto wireless.
Hey, thanks for your comment and watching the video. No the sound quality it perfect on mine and no difference at all. I play all my music wirelessly through the CarPlay and for me it’s faultless 👌
Awesome video boss.
Glad you liked it :)
I did not receive an installation description when purchasing this product. Do you happen to have that?
If you watch a video does it continue playing whilst your drive or does it stop playing?
You have the freedom to watch what you want when you want with this screen. If connect it to the internet via wifi hotspot or dedicated sim card you can stream TH-cam, Netflix etc.
Does this system allow you to download and watch Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max etc ?
Hi, thanks for your comment, yes you can connect the system to the internet via wifi and download all of those apps through the google play store. 👍
Does any of the information show up on the screen in the speedo?
Yeah Speedo and revs show up live on the screen when in the Speedo app which is pretty cool.
Audio still sounds nice?
Yes, still exactly the same as before. The audio is still controlled by the OEM MMI system, the new screen just a display. This has been my personal experience anyway.
Hello, i recently pur😢the same unit as you. Just finished the install on my RS7, everything is working apart from the mic, spoiler and auto start stop. Did you have this issue or any advice.
Ignore me sorted it!!!! Your video was helpful the reason I purchased it. Keep doing what you are doing.
