  • The guys and I loaded up our gear and did a shakedown hike to a local lean-to in order to test and prepare for our upcoming winter backpacking adventure! It was a lot of fun, we learned a few things, and we go to enjoy another amazing campfire meal prepared by @bigironbackpacking!

Lunch at a Lean-to, my favorite. You guys always go over the top when it comes to food.
The Lake Ann LT is one of my happy places.

Really enjoy your videos. Also appreciate the group of friends you have. I'm almost 69 and no longer have anyone who wants to get outdoors in the winter months for more than an hour or two. If I'm going to do anything like your adventures, the odds are I'll be solo. While I'll still go out, it would be nice to have others along to share it with. Glad to see that you have that. Take care and until next time...be well.

Looked liked a great time! Clam makes a harness for ice fishing sleds (about $30.00) that works great for pulling a pulk, and has shoulder straps as well. Shoulder straps help a lot. :-)

Good idea - we were saying this weekend that a harness would be clutch! I'll have to check them out ... thanks!

Good stuff. Going to try out my DIY pulk sled this winter...

It's nice to see all the things that were going on while I hiked the trail another 4 or 5 times!!!!

You're so extra, you gotta do the trail multiple times ;)

You would be amazed how much more pleasant pulling a pulk is when you take out the slack at the connection point of the poles and sled. Make that a solid connection and that takes out all the chatter. Really helps a lot. Looks like it was a fun outing in the woods!

Yea, I got a really good look at John's sled from SkiPulk.com and had the same thoughts on the connection points for v4 ;)

Nice and chilly for some warm chili.

Apparently the chili had an IPA in it ... I'm seriously reconsidering my friendship with the cook ;)

It most certainly looks cold but whole video has some special vibe, really nicely done.

I often-times wish I went camping where a pulk would be useful. Then I remember it will be really friggin' cold if I ever do that and I go back to dreaming about spring hikes.

LOL yea, the pulk was awesome, but you're not wrong - it was wicked cold this past weekend ;)

Notice the sled with the crossed poles track better. As you noticed, you want the tightest connection between the poles and sled. After destroying a sled with lean2rescue I upgraded my poles to half inch fiberglass. Have fun with your personal pulk evolution!

Thanks! I learn best by trying, failing and troubleshooting ... the pulk sled has been very educational ;)
