Patrick, I feel for you loss, she is a girl in a million, and such a nice girl. She's such a grounded lady. Stayed amateur until she finished university, then chose to turn professional in a male dominated sport. Then grafted for the next 5 years, winning, I think 7 races in those 5 years. Then she justifies the faith Henry place in her by first winning the Champion Hurdle and finishing as leading jockey at Cheltenham in 2021. But not winning the Gold Cup must really have hurt. So what does she do? She goes and wins The National, the greatest moment of her life. And stays with A Plus Tard, because she feels/knows she's got a better engine under her this year. She rides to a successful defence on Honeysuckle, picks up a second win with Bob Olinger, and takes a couple of falls! Then comes today, she's riding the marginal favourite, both she and the horse are expected not to fail. Such pressure! But she rode so cleverly, so intelligently. A Plus Tard looked like he was finishing a 12 furlong race. Henry trusts her, the horses she rides trust her, I'd trust her 🙂 If she never wins another race, I'll always be thankful to her for winning this race in the manner she did, because it was her that won it, by not striving to contest the lead until the second last fence. Again, sympathies on your loss, and so glad that such a nice lady gave you a reason to smile.

Performance of the festival IMO, and that's saying something after one of the best festivals ever. A Plus Tard has produced one of the greatest Gold Cup performances of all time. Produced a 184 speed rating to equal the great Denman. Also Rachel was fantastic delivering him between two rivals at the perfect time, brilliant.
Best gold cup winner since Kauto Star. He actually jumped the last fence alongside Minella Indo... Look how far he pulled clear... That was just ridiculously good.
It’s rare to see a horse get up the hill in a Gold Cup with the speed of A Plus Tard here. It was incredible really, accelerated so quickly after the last. Very well delivered by Rachel Blackmore
I’m delighted for Rachel & fair play to the trainer & connections for having faith in her. As for anybody who had any doubts about the horse staying up the hill at Cheltenham, we got our answer loud & clear. That’s the performance of a horse who could win it again next year.

Gallopin des Champs is another novice with huge potential, but A Plus Tard sets the standard now. I’ve never seen a horse sprint up the Cheltenham hill like that in a Gold Cup.

The novices were a great crop when you look at Constitution Hill, Sir Gerhard over hurdles & L’omme Presse, Gallopin de Champs over fences & Facile Vega is the best bumper winner in years, so potentially a Supreme winner next year. A Plus Tard, Honeysuckle & even Tiger Roll going out fighting. It’s a real shame that some horses lost their lives, that’s the sobering reality of this game & tarnished it a bit. Rachel Blackmore becoming the first woman to ride a Gold Cup winner too. It was great to see sell out crowds also after a couple of miserable years.

A totally deserved Gold Cup win for A Plus Tard. To come up the hill after the last like he did was amazing, brilliantly ridden by Rachel Blackmore. Winning The Gold Cup in that manner suggests he will return to defend it in 2023 and if he keep's fit and well he will take all the beating.
What a race! A great race and Rachael winning is a great landmark for the Gold Cup. Don't know why but I'm comparing her victory with Britain's Lizzie Deignan's win in last year's first ever women's Paris-Roubaix cycle race.

Last year and this year she rode on the Saturday after Cheltenham at Thurles. She had one Rride this year and won. I think she also raced at Clonmel today (Tuesday). She is a proven top professional who can pick her rides. Nothing wrong with that.

Conflated definitely went for the wrong race, would have given A Plus Tard a run for his money and set a much better pace for the race. The O` Leary`s seem to have an obsession with winning their own sponsored race than the Blue Riband of National Hunt Racing which is a shame.
We'll never know now but the way a plus tard ran nearly last at the third last hampered at least twice once coming up to the third last and to go on and win the race by fifteen lengths it would have taken some horse to beat him. Not saying your wrong but.
@@gozalanmckenna1027 Well his trainer made it public he wanted to go for Gold reasoning that he would be taken off his feet over the shorter trip and be more prone to making a mistake which is exactly what happened.

This has to be the worst gold cup I’ve seen. When have you ever seen a horse that jumps like that lead the gold cup for so long? No wonder Rachel’s horse bolted in after all he did beat chacun over 2 miles. It was no gallop and just a sprint in the end so there was only one horse gonna win at that point.
Really don't get all the nonsense about Rachael Blackmore "deserved to win it"! A Plus Tard on the day was the best horse and he got the job done very very easily and that's nothing to do with the jockey on him. Remember a few months ago APT was as short as 2/1 for the gold Cup because the horse is a class act. Great gold Cup 5 seconds faster than average in good to soft. 3 seconds faster than last year in similar conditions. It was a great quality race its a hard race to win. Have a place In my heart for Rachael always did. But the small day’s don’t interest her anymore Since (Last Year of March) rides out the back and not bothered about winning only want Cheltenham and Aintree wins in my opinion

U r right in the main the best horses kept for festivals not so easy riding on an average day. I have horses been around them all my life but racing is my no.1 horse sport. Enjoy your racing
Last year and this year she rode on the Saturday after Cheltenham at Thurles. She had one Rride this year and won. I think she also raced at Clonmel today (Tuesday). She is a proven top professional who can pick her rides. Nothing wrong with that.

Conflated definitely went for the wrong race, would have given A Plus Tard a run for his money and set a much better pace for the race. The O` Leary`s seem to have an obsession with winning their own sponsored race than the Blue Riband of National Hunt Racing which is a shame.
Thats a statement Mervyn. Conflated off the pace over 2.5miles. Got into the race off the home turn and was getting tired when fell. Me thinks not
We'll never know now but the way a plus tard ran nearly last at the third last hampered at least twice once coming up to the third last and to go on and win the race by fifteen lengths it would have taken some horse to beat him.

@@gozalanmckenna1027 Well his trainer made it public he wanted to go for Gold reasoning that he would be taken off his feet over the shorter trip and be more prone to making a mistake which is exactly what happened.
If conflated was good enough to line up he would have. I think the owners and a top trainer might just know a little bit more than an obvious expert like yourself 👍
This has to be the worst gold cup I’ve seen. When have you ever seen a horse that jumps like that lead the gold cup for so long? No wonder Rachel’s horse bolted in after all he did beat chacun over 2 miles. It was no gallop and just a sprint in the end so there was only one horse gonna win at that point.

Really don't get all the nonsense about Rachael Blackmore "deserved to win it"! A Plus Tard on the day was the best horse and he got the job done very very easily and that's nothing to do with the jockey on him. Remember a few months ago APT was as short as 2/1 for the gold Cup because the horse is a class act. People need to stop sucking up to a bang average jockey and start to appreciate the horses that do the hard work

Farce of a Gold Cup to be fair - crawled around slower than they’ll go in the Midlands National tomorrow.
Great gold Cup 5 seconds faster than average in good to soft. 3 seconds faster than last year in similar conditions. It was a great quality race its a hard race to win. A 2 time winner and last year's winner in the line up plus the last 2 runners up. Time to stop putting up stupid comments wait until April 1st then whack away.
That farce of a Gold Cup as Jimmy said was faster than last year and will be remembered for the speed coming up the hill. It was amazing and u must have been on the 2nd because it was.one of the best I've ever seen.

You're off your fecking rocker if you think the jockey plays little or no part in how a horse a horse performs, especially in National Hunt racing. To ride these equine athletes at speed requires physical fitness, a knowledge of the mount, tactical awareness, and a whole lot of courage.
The owners and trainers have too much invested to risk putting a woman in the saddle just for publicity.
