It's refreshing to see someone in the CC pick out films they've not seen, that they think will interest them. It's one of the big draws of a large media library, part of the fun of collecting is exploring titles you've not seen.
I'm really surprised more people don't do this tbh. I always found it odd that people go in and talk about a film they've just seen again recently and then take that with them, instead of something they've been dying to see but never got round to

I mean I knew about Van Peebles before I knew about Fellini. Not everyone learns about movies the same way or in the same order. When I was in film classes, I had a classmate who had a super deep knowledge of lesbian cinema but couldn't have named a Bergman movie if her life depended on it. I think one of the cool things about movies is that no one has seen everything and we all can learn from each other.
@@artirony410 That IS cool because it means there's more films to watch (I learned some trans-themed titles from this page that I'm very excited to see one day). But my point is the *awareness* of. Most of us haven't seen lots of stuff...but we've heard about them. We recognize titles and authors, etc. It'd be one thing if she said "I've never seen SATYRICON." Not weird at all. But to not know even a faintest hint of it (e.g. "Oh, it's that Fellini film about Rome") when she knows the importance of Van Peebles is kinda off-putting to me. Your lesbian film friend in school might not have been able to name a Bergman film, but if you mentioned a few of them, she might've recognized the *title* at least. To not have even known about them at all is weird for a cinephile. It'd be like knowing all the Harlem Renaissance writers and their works, but not knowing who wrote _Hamlet_ or even having heard the name of it. It'd be kinda weird.
Yes, she does, because she IS a woman. And try not being so insulting describing her as a 'he' - how would you feel if you were called something that you didn't identify with?
