I think you guys missed that the “Gator” in Gatorade stands for the fact that the team the drink was invented for were the Florida Gators.

"gas" in the US does refer to the gaseous state of matter. Additionally we will use the term "gas" as a stand in term for natural gas (methane). But it also is short for "gasoline", which is how it is used here.
"gasoline" and its older variants (cazoline, gazoline, etc...) predates the term "petrol" by some years as it relates to this particular product.

Also "petrol" as in petroleum is what gasoline are diesel are refined from. So technially "gas" is more correct than "petrol".

Surfing originated in Hawaii and is known as the sport of Kings in ancient Hawaii. We have chants and songs that talk about it from generations ago but it is totally a Hawaiian sport that got adopted by the rest of the world.

The Transistor is a HUGE invention. It is basically the basis for all modern electronics, without it modern electronics, everything that has any type of circuit board in it of any type has transistors, cells phones and modern computers of all types could not exist without it. The modern world would not exist as we know it without the transistor.

For Texas I’d definitely go with the integrated circuit, invented by Jack Kilby of Texas Instruments. He also later led the team that invented the hand calculator - which wouldn’t have been possible without the IC.
Texas Instruments invented some amazing things over the years.
The hand held calculator is one thing but they also invented the first scientific and graphing calculator.
From the late 80s up until now every highschool student and a good proportion of college students owned or own a TI Scientific Graphing Calculator.
They cornered the education in the same way Michael Dell did from the 90s on with the Dell desktop computer and later their laptops.
If you went into any public school in Texas by about 1996/7 their computer labs or classroom computers were from Dell 90% of the time.
It wasn't too much longer the rest of America followed suit.

It looked like they were building some kind of warehouse on the top of a hill there but it turned out that he built a metal framed house.
I used to drive by the gate to his house that kinda looks more like a compound on an almost daily basis.
Kilby co-founded the integrated circuit with Robert Noyce, who I had the pleasure of knowing him and his wife back in 1990 just before his untimely death in Austin, TX.
@@dirks4093 Funny enough I saw Kilby in Austin in about 2001, when he gave a speech there. Kilby was first to make an IC, but if I recall right, it wasn't really mass-producible. Noyce solved that problem quickly thereafter. As I understand the story, there initially was some fighting for credit but instead of devolving into a Newton vs Leibniz war, Kilby and Noyce reached an agreement to consider each other co-inventors, and to the end of their days they were both generous and graceful about sharing credit.

A diving suit and a wetsuit are two different things. You use a wetsuit when you skindive with tanks you use a diving suit with heavy weights to keep you down and air pumped through a hose from a ship or barge on the surface so you can down for longer periods.

For Missouri, it was mentioned that the Ice Cream Cone was invented at the 1904 World's Fair. There were a number of other important inventions that originated at the 1904 World's Fair. They include, the hamburger, the hot dog, peanut butter, iced tea, the club sandwich, outdoor lighting and X-Ray machines.

Outdoor lighting was first used on Pall Mall, London on Jan 28th 1807. And yes it is very useful. The food stuffs are just fatty junk food, designed to induce health problems as is iced tea which is loaded with copious amounts of teeth rotting sugar. So that leaves just one item. If you read my original comment I said only one useful item, I'll leave you to judge which one I'm talking about, I hope that's not too difficult, but still.
the Hamburger has been around for a few millenia, as have sausages. however the modern Hamburger came from Hamburg and the Hotdog (Frankfurter) was from Frankfurt.

'Gas' is short for gasoline, the fuel our automobiles are powered by. 'Petro' is short for petroleum, the stuff that gasoline is made from, along with kerosene, diesel oil, etc. If you put petroleum as fuel in you automobile, it will most likely ruin the engine.

Polynesians started surfing and then they discovered the Hawaii islands in 400 C.E and settled there where they brought surfing, so yes if you think about it Hawaii is apart of the start of surfing as the people who invented the sport lived there for thousands of years and preferred the island for surfing as they had unique waves to surf, that's why surfing is big in Hawaii and Australia if you look how close they are to Polynesia

The process of vulcanizing, or curing, rubber with heat made it harder and much more durable. Prior to the invention of the process, tires would get soft and wear down quickly in hot weather.
actually Charles Goodyear first vulcanized rubber in Woburn Mass. He was concerned that life jackets on ships made of natural rubber were rotting and becoming useless. There were no car tires then, it was the 1830's. look at 290 Montvale ave Woburn MA on google maps and you can see the house he did it in. The Goodyear School is right to the west.

Mrs. Beesley...in the US, one cannot get a patent for an idea. The idea must be made into a working device. My grandfather held the first patent for the mechanical toothbrush. However, in 1936 there were no micro motors or batteries, so the invention used a hand crank. Unfortunately it never caught on until later years when the patent ran out

I grew up in Dayton and we are bitter about North Carolina’s claims, lol. The Wright Brothers invented and did all of their testing in Dayton; I lived close to the prairie they ran small scale tests on! They needed a windy place to test their plane so they went to Kittyhawk.

I agree! I too am from Ohio and grew up a stones throw from WPAFB. They lived here it was designed and built here so the invention is from here. It might have been tested elsewhere but it was absolutely invented here just like the cash register.

There are a few, however most of the "paddle wheel" boats that still cruise these rivers use diesel power to drive the wheel.
My hometown of Louisville Ky. has the oldest, still operating, steam-powered paddle wheel boat here on the Ohio River, The Belle of Louisville. She is a National Historic Landmark.

As a Maine Native I agree the wetsuit and drysuit styles of diving suits were invented here. Someone from Maine also improved the big metal diving helmet.
As someone from New Hampshire, I feel like we are more proud of the snow mobile, snow boarding, and even paintball than the Segway. The Segway may have been invented here, but it seems like it's more popular elsewhere.

Vulcanized rubber has to do with the reaction of chemicals in rubber and how they react to heat when it is cured I used to work at a Goodyear tire plant so had to learn all about it

Being from Colorado, I think that the best invention to come from Colorado is the aluminum can. Ball industries (formerly famous for their glass jars), developed the aluminum can which has a tighter design tolerance than space craft. Ball sold the glass part their business, and now they focus on aluminum aerospace as well as custom-designing aluminum cans and custom can liners for whatever a company wants to put in an aluminum can. That’s why you see more craft beers in cans instead of bottles, which is lighter and cheaper and more sustainable than bottles.
also Coors ceramics division... they did some amazing stuff; I had no idea the thing even existed until I was on a road trip a few falls ago and we passed through Golden. Of course we knew we'd see the main Coors plant, but that other one caught my eye and I looked it up later. Very impressive.

The airplane that the Wright Brothers flew in NOrth Carolina was one that they made in Ohio. North Carolina is where they first tested it for the seclusion and the steady wind coming in from the ocean.

I'm from Minnesota. The rollerblades thing was weird. We're a pretty big hub for technology and retail headquarters. The big one would be 3M. They invent so much stuff. The one everyone knows is Post-It notes, but they hold many profitable patents.
Also a hub for medical devices. The battery powered pacemaker was invented there. My guess is that this guy just looked up inventions for each state and picked the first ones he saw.

North Carolina did not invent the airplane. The Wright Brothers (from Dayton Ohio) brought their disassembled airplane to Kitty Hawk, a beach they had chosen for its winds. After two of their test flights in which they got their prototype off the ground for seconds, they returned to Prairie Huffman Ohio (which is now a National Historic Site) and developed their plane so by 1904 it could stay in the air for as long as 45 minutes and fly in circles, indicating they had control of the heavier than air aircraft. Please read David McCullough's book The Wright Brothers. It is totally unjust to say that North Caroliina invented the airplane because it had windy beaches.
Also in Maine, Chester Greenwood invented the modern earmuff in 1873 in my hometown of Farmington. The first day of winter is a holiday know as Chester Greenwood day.

Wet suit allows a small amount of water between the body and the suit allowing the body to heat the water and keep the diver warm. A dry suit , as the name suggests, doesn't allow any water into the suit and is used in really cold water.

On behalf of Colorado, I'm offended they only mentioned the Cheeseburger, which really wasn't a huge deal or much of an invention. I agree w big_tex's comment for Texas. Integrated circuit has to be number one. Jack Kilby won a Nobel prize for it. Without the integrated circuit we wouldnt have computers, smart phones, etc. This was one of the main reasons electronics have advanced so much in such a short time.
Vulcanized rubber strengthens rubber and allows it to still stretch but also snap back to its original shape without losing integrity under wide range of environmental conditions. It's done mainly by adding sulfer.
A wet suit is used for surfing or snorkeling 🤿 in cold water and they are the same type of suit used for diving, but perhaps not as sturdy or resistant to cold as a diving suit. Diving suits can be the neoprene skin tight type or the large space suit looking type that has a full head covered diving bell helmet.

The "Happy Birthday" thing was a song "Good Morning to You" written by a kindergarten teacher in KY in . The words changed to Happy Birthday years later. The "Good Morning" song was something that spread to schools all over after being published in the 1893 songbook "Song Stories for the Kindergarten"

The type of diving being described is hard hat diving, with the huge brass helmet and air supplied from the surface. The advent of SCUBA diving wasn't until the 1940s.
Considering that Philadelphia Pennsylvania was not only the headquarters for the first continental congress, but also the place where the declaration of independence was both written and signed into law, I would argue that the greatest invention ever to come out of Pennsylvania was actually the USA itself.
Kevlar is in anti bullet armour vests for police and military also on their helmets, nylon was invented for use for military parachute cords they needed something flexible and waterproof.

He was the tailor from Reno, Nevada, that actually invented the denim trousers, using canvas, reinforced stitching with rivets, for the gold and silver miners to have more durable clothing. Levi was a clothing manufacturer out of San Francisco, California that basically took credit for Davis's invention

First of all, as a Daytonian, the airplane was FLOWN first in North Carolina,but invented here. They had a bicycle shop here. Next, if you live in a decent sized city on the Ohio or Mississippi Rivers, there are still steamboats that give scenic river tours. They are pretty cool.

I don't think North Carolina claims to have invented the airplane but do claim to be the first place people flew aka " the birthplace of flight". Ohioans invented the plane but powered flight first happened in NC.
