Glacier National Park is in Montana. And it is absolutely gorgeous. I suggest looking up a few photos of Glacier NP and you'll see why Montana belongs on the list. I visit as often as I can. And I live in Maine so that's a 2,800 mile (4500 km) trip. So not a trip you take if it's only mediocre.

I live in Oregon and that octagonal building in the Columbia river gorge is called Crown Point. When Mt. St. Helens blew its top my son and I jumped into the car to get to Crown Point. It was nearly due south of the mountain and I will never forget the sight. There was no chance we could see the mountain on the other side of the river but the ash ejection cloud was the most powerful thing I have and ever will witness on this planet. Ungodly malevolent feeling. We live in the Willamette valley in the western half of the state in the big trees. We woke up at the beach one morning and by later that night were skiing down Mt Hood. We are about equidistant from either the beach or the mountains and it is less than 80 miles from either one from our house. Perfection. The eastern half of the state is desert. I don't do desert. I prefer the big ancient Douglas Fir trees. Come to Oregon sometime and see Crater Lake and the Oregon Caves, miles of white sand beaches that are by state law, 100% free access to the public.

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore which is miles of enormous sand dunes along Lake Michigan and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore which are sandstone cliffs along Lake Superior. There is also a National Park in Michigan called Isle Royale. It is an island in Lake Superior. Other big tourist spots for natural beauty are Lake of the Clouds, Tahquamenon Falls, Turnip Rock and Kitch-iti-kipi which is the largest freshwater spring in Michigan. Michigan also has 129 lighthouses and Mackinac Bridge (pronounced Mackinaw). Mackinac Bridge is a suspension bridge 5 miles long connecting the upper and lower peninsulas. I've traveled camping in the Solarium area, sleeping in the lounges and staying in a cabin. I have to say, the cabin was the way to go, especially on the longer trips. When I travel, I generally want to take my Jeep, so the ferry is perfect for me. Certainly, flying is faster, but I'm retired, and the slower pace of the ferry is relaxing for the three-day trip "down south". The trip to Skagway is much shorter, has great Jeeping opportunities, and is a short distance from the Canadian border.

From towering, majestic mountains and volcanoes, glaciers, tundra and taiga terrain, over 6 million lakes, to rainforests in the southeast. It is far from a land that stereotypes would suggest is all ice and igloos. It is also a land that is teeming with more wildlife than any other state, as man has had far less impact on it. Climate zones within the state vary radically. From moderate and damp year-round in the south east, cold, with heavy snow in the winter in the south Central, while mild in the summertime, yet in the interior, they see the most extreme temperatures between winter and summer of anywhere on earth, seeing temperatures as cold as -80° in the winter, and up to 95° in the summertime. We have been to all 50 states, most more than once, and the train ride from Denali down to Seward is one of the most amazing things we have done.
We loved the Big Island of Hawaii-it is less commercial than some of the others and dining near Kilauea after dark was a highlight.
Love Northern California... too many things to list.
Niagara Falls, New York is a fantastic place to see, but you need to go to both sides to get the full effect.
South Dakota is amazing with many things to enjoy.
And of course Grand Canyon is a must see
The drive through the Appalachian Mountains is breathtaking.
Every state has their own things making the trip worthwhile. I am not sure about mailing outside the states, but most will mail you a travel brochure showing the highlights.
. I am surprised Oklahoma did not get any votes. It is rich in history and has some nice places to explore.
I could go on and on, but every state has things I would go back to see again.

Acadia is beautiful. Montana has Glacier National Park. Should have been mentioned. Absolutely beautiful. Nothing wrong with prairies! The Red Desert of Wyoming is also beautiful. Backpacking in the Porcupine Mountains is great. The Columbia River Gorge is beautiful too. The Great Salt Lake does stink but it’s really cool. Colorado is great too! Haven’t been to Alaska yet. Bucket list stuff. Been to NAPA many times. Lots and lots of other states/places that didn’t make this list. One of my favorites is Washington (state).

@@lianabaddley8217that's hilarious 😂😂😂 I can't imagine it was ever that low. It was in the 80s until today. It's not perfect at all, it's HOTTTTT and humid as hell year round. 72 still feels hot, but 72 will only happen a couple weeks of the year. 8 months of 80-100+. And 100 % humidity. It's DISGUSTING. I've lived and traveled most of the southeast and some of the west. Texas, Nevada, Florida... all are more comfortable than most of NC. Especially central and coastal. The mountains are much much nicer weather. In central NC it's in the 80s on Christmas sometimes. Even if it's not that warm, a lot of people especially those with large families eat thanksgiving and Christmas dinner outside. The "winter" is the only comfortable time of year, honestly. Especially if you have any breathing issues like asthma. Or allergies. And winter is only January and February.

The building on the round curved road in Oregon is the Vista House at Crown Point. It is a viewing area. Stunning view up the Columbia river gorge. Built during the early part of the 1900's as a roadside stop for the old East/West Columbia River Highway there. Still beautiful. And yes, the building has a basement/cellar, but it is nothing too deep or interesting, which takes nothing away from the rest. Lovely place to stop and look.

Usually this guy is on target, but he got fundamentally confused about Montana vs. Wyoming. Montana has Glacier National Park up near the Canadian border. That's its #1 attraction. Wyoming is primarily known for Yellowstone and Grant Tetons National Parks. 96% of Yellowstone is in Wyoming. Only 3% is in Montana (with 1% in Idaho), and there are no attractions or lodgings within the Montana portion of the park.

Beesleys, though CA is beautiful, I wouldn't include Hollywood as one of the eyepoppers. It's a neighborhood in LA that's kind of dumpy nowadays.
At 2:44 is something found on the Navajo Res. right on the AZ/UT line--Monument Valley--absolutely stunning!
Old Faithful is in WY, in the SW quadrant of the park, around 40 mi./64 km. S of the MT state line. There's another national park on the Canadian border, with a twin in Canada, by the name of Glacier. The Canadian version is Waterton Lakes. Side note for no extra charge: MT is almost the same size as Germany.
Re. Mackinac Is., in the winter, because of all the nearby water, they get a ton of snow. Then, because they have no motorized vehicles allowed (except in winter), the kids are taken to school via snowmobile.
In the Oregon section, he mentioned Lewis and Clark, who were commissioned by Pres. Andrew Jackson in 1803 (?) to check out the recently acquired Louisiana Purchase.
Monument Valley is on the Navajo Reservation.
Alaska has 4 seasons like everywhere else. On the winter solstice, the sun doesn't come up in Fairbanks and north, and it can get to 40 below or colder there. However, in the Panhandle, it's very mild on the same day, with much more rain than snow, and Anchorage is about the climate of Minneapolis.
At 29:15 is Manawaiopuna Falls (mah-nah-vie-oh-POO-nah), which was seen in Jurassic Park.
Re. the small number of votes, don't forget that each person in the 4000 voted for 10 states, so most, if not all of them, used up a minimum of 1000 votes.
CA has more national parks than any other state: Lassen Volcanic, Redwood, Sequoia, Kings Canyon, Channel Islands, Joshua Tree, Death Valley, and Pinnacles.

You have extra consideration for a trip with a little one. I did a three week car trip from Michigan to Montana with a planned 5 day backpack into the mountains when my kids were 4 and 1. But I knew they traveled well and we practiced hiking and camping. And when the mountain we were on caught fire during our dinner we had backup plans. Many kids can't handled the long hours tied into a car seat, many parents might want less planning.

They figured out all 7200 Philippine islands can fit in Colorado. I drove over the Rocky Mountains in Colorado before and reach an elevation of over 14,000 feet above sea level. If you have breathing problems like asthma you probably shouldn't go up that high, you could suffer from apoxia and pass out. It's a super curvy road and has places where you can pull off the road and take in the views.

I’m biased but I would have to mention the state of Wisconsin. After Michigan it has the 2nd most Great Lakes shoreline. It also has something like 11,000 inland lakes. I live in Milwaukee, a large city on the western shores of Lake Michigan. Within 20 miles from my residence my family has a lake cottage on Waubeesee Lake. It’s a small (129 acres) but deep (80 feet) glacially formed lake but it’s like being in a different world than in the city. It’s my favorite place to be!
