    Important Video Takeaways:
    • If placing a ladder on a gutter use a gutter protector
    • Separate an extension ladder into individual parts, install ladder hook and hook over the ridge of a roof
    • Install ladder pivot tool in between two ladder rungs
    • Install metal bracket onto roof and wear safety harness
    • Do not use an A frame ladder on a roof
    • You can use an extension ladder or a multi ladder extended on a roof
    • After removing roof bracket, re-install screws and install shingle caulk over screw heads
    • If you’re on a roof over 10ft a bracket and harness should always be installed while working

    I just want to say thank you for providing this video. I used to be a painter for a guy. I was his only employee. I didn’t even realize until after I watched this video how unsafe he was and the way he trained me was unsafe. Painting on roofs with none of those safety things. Just the wedge sitting on shingles with the ladder on top. Nothing to prevent it from slipping. Didn’t even realize there was a harness and fall protection. Painted a mechanic garage. After cleaning the walls and all the oil on the floor my boss slipped out the ladder when he was at the very top. I told him I didn’t feel safe painting that high up with no protection and the floor was slicker than shit. It would have been me who fell if I went up there. I just started my painting LLC and painting my first house as my own boss. Didn’t feel safe getting up on the roof to start the prep work. Glad I came across your video. It may cost extra, take a little time out of my day, and require me taking up one more ladder than I wanted to. It could save my life and man I’m thankful for this video.

    Very dangerous getting up on my roof to copper tape to prevent moss growing there due to wet Oregon weather. I have had to watch several safety videos and several of them did not mention the needed the tool the Ladder Helper. Its 40 bucks for the right tool to prevent ladder from crushing the gutter. Also other poor videos did not mention as you did ithe ladder must extend at least twp hungs above roof line. Thanks for doing right. It helps to be physically fit like this guy is cause you can even hear him breathing during the video this is labor intensive.

    For a contractor is okay to invest on that tool. To setup a ladder on the roof as a painter I did many times was screw a 2x4 on one leg of the ladder. It was back on the 80s when we didn't have all these gadgets..

    • @metrofetus-
      @metrofetus- 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      How did you screw into a ladder? im curious. I roofed for a few years, are you saying screwed a 2x4 into the roof for the ladder?

    • @gilboston20033
      @gilboston20033 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Go to the video to the minute 8:38, you'll see the black gadget to make a horizontal place to rest the ladder. If you put the ladder against the wall you're going to need to make one leg of the ladder longer. Get a piece of 2x4 or something similar and clamp it to the ladder until you level it up. Screw the 2x4 to the ladder at least in two points. Now you have a ladder with one leg longer. Make sure you screw and remove the clamp.

    Nice! I really want to be able to go onto the roof to take care of moss and clean the gutters but I was too chicken. But for good reason! I have never fallen from a ladder or a roof and I never want to find out what it's like. On NextDoor, neighbors are always asking around for help with their roof. If I ever got a good setup and the confidence (slight fear of heights but even bigger fear of slipping) perhaps I can make myself a few bucks as a handym.... woman? What would you call it?

    Good set up once you get going, but still you're free styling while putting up the safety hook and stepping over the rope to get adjusted all while not strapped in. The seperated ladder is sweet though, nice to be able to move the pivot in more locations rather than multiple roof boots.

I've been painting for 29 years and tell my guys all the time, "if you're not comfortable don't do it". Accidents happen when you're too nervous or too confident, have to have a good mix of the 2. That's what works for me anyway.

If you give me your address, Ill come over to take you to the hospital when you trip over your safety line and go bouncing down the roof with the rope tangling you up. Im 63 and Im going a lot further uo today than the house in the video. Right after I stop at the dispensary. Sativa for that job.

  • @JacquelynRivera930
    @JacquelynRivera930 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    He should have a ladder hook that screws to the roof ridge holding an extension ladder so it lays flat down along the roof shingles, then he should have a ladder leveler/pivot tool sitting between the rungs of the extension ladder, and then he needs to put up an additional ladder, or he can get a permanent mount style leveler for an extension ladder and put a cleat on the roof. Either way, THIS is far from safe. If he really wants to get at it, he can even use a ladder's little helper or a quick-click extension ladder stabilizer.

    I'm wondering this because I see you on roof attaching the safety equipment but no safety harness on is there a less of a chance of you getting hurt before you are attached.

He didn't show you the 2x4 he screwed to roof just above gutter for the ladder that the pivot box is on to not slide off of roof. And if you are putting on a safety harness, grow some balls instead, or stay on the ground.
