They putting in so much labor cost where they can just use autpmated machines that does it for them. Even if they can't afford the machines, that's why theres people that run factories that does everything for them and you can control cost of goods more efficiently because you pay for it done in bulk of per 1000 or 10 000 units.
I for one found it really interesting to know how they make them (they are my favoured brand) , but also their attention to detail and quality control. Cheers Si.
Been making my own gels for over a year now. Basically made with: Dates Bananas Almonds Oats Chocolate It can be a pain at times but at least I know what’s going in my body and it’s not all hyper concentrated processed sugars.
Thanks now I will trust it is conventional food .wen I get on the road for 160 km sis bars are satisfied you in every way don't forget drink very important.pat from Belgium🚲
My recent favorite shows are with Simon Richardson and the tours he does with various company's doing the behind the scene videos. Very entertaining, keep up the great work you guys!!
Why does it focus to such an extend on doping? As non-pro I'd rather like to hear tips on good nutricion, like when to use which product, advantages over "normal" resin bars, what is when released and picked up by the body, and the such.
u no when youve seen a good body builder when he has non of thid crap in his bag protein shakes bars steroids is all the wrong way filled with even dangerous stuff...end of day iff u need a certain thing well you just f..kin eat its as simple as that...what did we do years ago its pathetic..you se good body builders they have there food in there tub sometimes alot of fish for the protein excetra ye all this is just crazy
This was good. I do enjoy a good factory tour now and then. The QC part was more interesting than I would have expected. I also appreciate the”Paid promotion “ tag. That makes a world of difference to me.
What I do: a baguette cut in 4, add honey and walnuts and kiwi slices for the acid flavour. 2 minutes to make, no baking or cooking, cheap and a ton of energy to deliver.
Good insight into how the bars are made only thing is I can't stand any of SIS products I have tried nearly all of them and the taste is rank sorry guy I will stick with home made or high5 which I can take just about :-D
is there any way of harnessing global farm wastage aka when glut happens or sun drying of pineapple bananas what ever product this is still small production as how big it could become aka having these options in school canteens
Bought ten of these bars, two of them were moldy - I was lucky to open the first moldy one before the race, because during the race I would just eat it without examining it. It was well within the best before date (about half a year remaining). So... no, thanks, I will stick to the ones I make myself.
I was buying SIS products until I saw Aspartame in my drink mix. I can’t believe I consumed countless bottles of this crap. Back to making my own bars and using companies like Skratch Labs.
Type 2 diabetes typically starts with insulin resistance. That is, the cells of the body resist insulin’s efforts to escort glucose into the cells. What causes insulin resistance? It appears to be caused by an accumulation of microscopic fat particles within muscle and liver cells.4 This fat comes mainly from the diet-chicken fat, beef fat, cheese fat, fish fat, and even vegetable fat. To try to overcome insulin resistance, the pancreas produces extra insulin. When the pancreas can no longer keep up, blood sugar rises. The combination of insulin resistance and pancreatic cell failure leads to type 2 diabetes

Ah - that explains things - no nuts allowed, so they had to send Simon and couldn't send Matt.
This WAS a nut-free facility until GCN came.
I'm sorry but... no.
A candy factory that does not hire oompa loompas can not be taken seriously !
Very interesting. Surprised to see so many manual tasks in the factory....thought it would be more automated
David Gibson yeah the rolling out of the bars using manual labor seemed very old fashioned and not cost effective.

Is cycling auto no its manual so as its making
There's no shame in checking your headphones at 2:25.
I don't know which is worse, a cyborg by Skynet, or Siborg in a hairnet.
+Michael McDermott hmm...
Global Cycling Network I know, awful patter. I'm actually embarrassed.
not a siborg hes a sellborg
2:22
This is going to get re-uploaded isn’t it?
Niels Heldens why?
That awkward moment of silence when they made funny faces at each other behind the camera...
D681 ZVJ ok
I thought i lost my hearing. 😂
I for one found it really interesting to know how they make them (they are my favoured brand) , but also their attention to detail and quality control. Cheers Si.
+Finbarr O'Halloran thanks for the comment - glad you liked the video.
LOL @1:48 "...it's whole foods" as they're pouring in maltodextrine...
I felt uncomfortable at 2:21
i thought i had gone deaf, all the years of drum and bass had caught up with me.
Great insight. I’m a fan of making my own bars. But if ever in a pinch and need store bought these look great.
This vid gave me lots of inspiration! To make my own food. Yuck those were some gross looking shots.
Been making my own gels for over a year now. Basically made with:
Dates
Bananas
Almonds
Oats
Chocolate
It can be a pain at times but at least I know what’s going in my body and it’s not all hyper concentrated processed sugars.

+Patrick Hance cheers Pat, like Si said, a few of us raced and trained on SiS for a number of years.
2:25 awkward silence...
We use a very similar recipe at NASA, where I work as a food stylist.
Bit off-topic, but are you guys going to the CX world champs this year?
+Niels Heldens we'd love to, but I'm not 100% yet. How about you?
Global Cycling Network most likely going there on the Saturday
Yes PLEASE!
My recent favorite shows are with Simon Richardson and the tours he does with various company's doing the behind the scene videos. Very entertaining, keep up the great work you guys!!

I am looking for a factory/place where I can produce protein bars with a long shelf life.
What places do you recommend?
Thankfully the SiS bars are not as dry as that video.
u no when youve seen a good body builder when he has non of thid crap in his bag protein shakes bars steroids is all the wrong way filled with even dangerous stuff...end of day iff u need a certain thing well you just f..kin eat its as simple as that...what did we do years ago its pathetic..you se good body builders they have there food in there tub sometimes alot of fish for the protein excetra ye all this is just crazy
Simon is in charge of GCN now. I like him tho.
Can we have a special beer flavored energy gel? I'd buy like 20 cases if you did
check out www.squeezy.de/en/product/test-package-energy-gel/
didnt test it yet
Torq did one ghost ship shandy
‘Rocky Road’ does it for me. I especially like the Marshmallow bits Thank you Si.
They talk as if test certificates are 100% safe, fucking annoying..
"oh here's a paper mate, it means it's not us see?".
This was good. I do enjoy a good factory tour now and then. The QC part was more interesting than I would have expected. I also appreciate the”Paid promotion “ tag. That makes a world of difference to me.
Hey GCN! What's the music track playing in the very beginning?
The Hypnotoad did you ever find out?
Getting Tipsy by Fox Morrow
By far my favorite engery gel/bar brand, also the only one I actually like the taste of :D
Rather have a cliff bar.
Company wants to turn over 50m in 2020? What about the EBITDA...
Hopefully SIS will offer a gluten-free energy bar at some point 🤞
Do the to-go bars all have caffeine in them?
talk about overpriced carbohydrates and vitamin pills
Although good vid I feel sorry for you, as you had to go to Nelson to film it.
whats the difference between a supermarket muesli bar and a sis bar ?
GCN does Lancashire.
How to wear a hair net like a pro
Christopher Jenkins shades over or under the hairnet?
Make your own bars. No artificial crap added.
There isnt even that much crap in them, but i am not paying a price for those at which i could make half a baking tray myself.
What I do: a baguette cut in 4, add honey and walnuts and kiwi slices for the acid flavour. 2 minutes to make, no baking or cooking, cheap and a ton of energy to deliver.
Desi sounds good. I'll try that. Cheers 🥂.
mixing fruits with gluten and sweet is not a good idea. search for the science of food combining for smooth digestion and absorbtion.
YUP! Dates, macadamia nuts, coconut shreds, chia soaked in cold brew coffee. BOOM!
Great insight thanks
Sis Si energy bar
Good insight into how the bars are made only thing is I can't stand any of SIS products I have tried nearly all of them and the taste is rank sorry guy I will stick with home made or high5 which I can take just about :-D
Hi haw are i need rcip
Buy directly from SIS in bulk it's not expensive (bet all the guys saying it's to expensive ride carbon)
WTF, GCN makes even granola bar manufacturing worth watching and entertaining.
We'll take that as a compliment...?!
Yes, it was!
Is the obsession with having nut free products actually creating more people who are allergic to nuts? This is a geuine question, does anyone know?
Another off topic lol. Do a training camp in Mallorca, ex fit 1st cat, I would join in on. It would be epic with ur fan base and expertise
Does anybody else think that SiS products taste like Laundry liquid?
I think Si should wear a hairnet every day, it's a good look mate. lol
Why have SIS stopped doing Watermelon energy drink?
is there any way of harnessing global farm wastage aka
when glut happens
or sun drying of pineapple bananas what ever product
this is still small production as how big it could become
aka having these options in school canteens
Where was the cooling process? How is that controlled?
If you heat at more then 40 degree centigrade are you destroying almost all vitamins and nutrition elements of each single component?
I am surprised. Almost all manual production, very little automation.
I think as long as SiS stay away from Jon Jones, they should be OK.
I gotta make my own, those bars can get expensive.
Interesting - surprised the process isn’t more automated TBH.
Why does Ask GCN Anything keep getting bumped?
Why does it look like Si and Ben Samuels are in front of a green screen? Was there a stunt planned or something?
I don't know why, by Si looks terrified during the entire scene from 7:01 and onwards
It´s cool that its vegan, but are not made like a pro, it´s junk food.
Sorry, but I much prefer Si’s Uber bars, plus a lot cheaper.
Stephen didn't look happy at 4:47. Awkward.
The machine looks pretty cool, the one to form the bars over it, which brand is it or is it custom made? Cheers
Sis is the only brand I use.... simply because they are the best.
I now you did trained a lot end your friends too that is why I like the way the videos is made and explain to us . I kan relate .Pat from Belgium 🚲
I watched the ad before the ad. I don't know what's wrong with me.
Bought ten of these bars, two of them were moldy - I was lucky to open the first moldy one before the race, because during the race I would just eat it without examining it. It was well within the best before date (about half a year remaining). So... no, thanks, I will stick to the ones I make myself.
1:17, this means everything to me. I might just try these bars!!!
Not cycling related but I need to know, what was the song at the end when Simon walks out of the door?
I wish I had bikes like the gcn team 😢 I can only afford a steel frame bike.
They were supposed to have Matt host this tour but there are no nuts allowed in the facility.
Well si I hope they gave u more than one box as I feel a give away coming on thanks to SIS
Why is the rolling job assigned to a person and not a machine?
Doesn't look like you've been eating many of these bars Si, looking really lean indeed.
He discredits himself as a food scientist as soon as he says "natural foods".
Feel a SIS competition coming on....!?
Nelson, jesus, East Lancashire a bit off the beaten track for GCN
The sign at 1:16 explains why Matt didn't host this video.
Was it after Matt's visit that they decided to ban nuts from the entire site? 😏😋
sugar, sugar, and more sugar
So Brad could not blame SIS then?
7:12 Si looks so worried aha!
Great video
Bad editing
What is id on the song in the end?
Thanks si
Fun food facts !! 😍😍
as a home mechanic what are the best books on bike maintenance and service??
There's a video for most things right here on YT! The Park Tool channel has lots of useful ones as well as right here at GCN, of course ;)
It's 9pm here and you made me hungry. Thanks GCN 😀
+György Mohl ha! Hope you enjoyed the video György
Global Cycling Network Of course, as always! :)
I wanna eat a SIS energy bar.
I rather visit than eat bars!
Watching the part about the ingredients made me hungry. I had to pause the video and go get a bowl of CoCo Pebbles.
No nuts so no matt?
Si's'n'SiS...
I love you guys
Very interesting! Love it!
Great video bar none!
I was buying SIS products until I saw Aspartame in my drink mix. I can’t believe I consumed countless bottles of this crap. Back to making my own bars and using companies like Skratch Labs.
Or eat fat, avoid sugar and crush these guys. And get healthy
Eat fat and get healthy? Carb the fuck up.
redauwg911 more like diabetes the fuck up.

redauwg911 fake news. Neal Barnard is full of shit and is out right lying. Open a book

Why no nuts?
+hornetluca for allergy reasons
Yum, looks way better than homemade golden syrup flapjacks. And much cheaper too!
