    I’ve got an uncomfortable truth to share- not all of your family & friends are going to be receptive when it comes to learning this stuff. It’s easy to push them away and overdo it (even when you approach them with a good heart/intentions.) If you really want to get through to them, you have to take it slow, give them bite-sized bits of info, and let them come to the realization of how important topics like these are. Great stuff, bro!

    3 stops in a gun fight;
    1. Psychlogical, the bad guy CHOOSES to stop. Cannot count on this!
    2. Hydraulic, he leaks enough to lower his blood pressure to the point he loses consciousness. Even a heartshot will take some time to be effective.
    3. Electric, shut off the signal to the body. Instantaneous but a major marksmanship problem.

    I have saved myself a world of hurt through situational awareness! Countless times in LEO world, seeing what could go down before it occurred! Murphy is real and luck is great!!
    A quick “don’t be like me” story if it helps save someone! I carry a G19 always! My routine is to always press check before holstering. Got swamped at work for several weeks. Exhausted, I failed maintain my routine! I live in Florida and constantly in and out of air conditioning into really humid conditions. One morning I remembered to press check my weapon. Seized up from corrosion!! I was carrying a single shot weapon!! Don’t be like me, check your weapon daily!!!!!

    The advice you gave in this video is very solid. I've used my edc 3x in 30 years to thwart robberies of my person. Never had to fire it. Saw the threat and reacted. Each time the only other person who saw my firearm was the bad guy. Each time they took off. Never had to fire it. Situational awareness gave me that extra second to develop a plan. Best outcome. And yes, I was lucky. First two, I carried a J frame. The last one was a Ruger LCP II in 22 lr. These events evolve rapidly. You are also correct that some people don't care if you are armed. This also happened to me but I didn't include the events in this post.

    Fights last seconds, results last eternally.
    My last gunfight was like 10-15, maybe 20 seconds, not sure I didn’t time it. My dad who was upstairs when it happened, told me he thought it was less than 20 seconds.
    It was over so fast, that he grabbed his 🔫 and came downstairs to back me up, and it was over by the time he made it downstairs.
    I had one KIA and one wounded. We made it out clean. Clean pew pew, so no steel bracelets or gray bar hotel stay for me.
    Edited to add- they kept my pew pew for like 8 months, so always have a backup. You don’t want to be unarmed and helpless while they “investigate”.
    Also, deleting someone can mess with your head. It really helps if you know/believe you were morally and legally justified to do it, but you still may occasionally get weird thoughts about it. Time heals most wounds, and time has certainly helped in my case, but every so often, depending on what I’m doing or what I’m seeing or hearing, I get flashbacks to the event and/or I get weird feelings about it. I can deal with it, and it hasn’t ruined my life, but I’m a resilient person. Others may not fare as well. Talking to people who get it helps. Whatever you do, don’t talk to anti pew pew types, or certain other types, as they will try to make you feel bad and will not help. But talk to somebody.

    Man, appreciate your no nonsense, rational take on things. The innumerable ways that a gunfight can go sideways are why I lean on the first rule of self defense being avoidance. It's not always possible but it's certainly preferable to avoid a gunfight because like you said, if luck isn't with you, even the most incompetent boob out there can put your lights out permanently. Unless you get paid to go out and confront the bad guys head on, avoid it if at all possible.

    He comes back to the dorm, one night, and just sits down on his bunk and my gf, at the time, and I just look at him and know something was wrong so we immediately asked what had happened.
    After a minute, he just says, "I got in a fight and the guy just punched me...I just stood there, got hit, didn't say a word, and left...I just froze and didn't do anything."

    Here is a true story: I am a vet from the 80s and 90s. I had a lot of training (more than most) on the M16. Never fired a pistol until around 2009. Never had any training on it either. I finally decided to go to the range with a very old CZ. It took a bit to get used to the sites but I got it in one day. I got my carry permit and in that process was given some tips on how to train to practice drawing and aiming. I left the country for 8 years then came back in 2020 so no shooting during that time. That is the background.
    I take another class to get a new license to carry. During that prove it test, I shot so good the instructor showed my target to the class and said this is what you should strive for. So somehow, even with my shooting a pistol like I shoot a rifle and not like all the instructors teach, I became a good shot.
    A few months later, I go to an informal range on somebody's land to shoot with Oath Keepers. At this point I had only put maybe 100 rounds down range with my new CZ Omega that I got when I came back into the country. Shooting at that range was a lot different than shooting at the indoor ranges. I had so many issues that day. I dropped the mag like 2 or 3 times, I wasn't letting go of the trigger far enough to allow it to reset so I could fire again. The guy running the range must have felt like I was a total idiot and useless with a gun. Later that day I must have calmed down and got my bearings and learned my new gun better. At the end of the day when they were done shooting the rifles at 40 yards, I asked if I could shoot my 9mm. They said sure.
    I followed the rules we had earlier: 5 rounds a mag, 5 steel targets, 2 mags, go right to left, change mag, then left to right. I ran it 3 times. I hit 9 out of 10 each time around 14 seconds. Everybody was shocked. I shot better with my CZ than most where with their AR-15.
    This was just a simple outdoor range with mild activity training shooting and I did not do so well in the beginning. If that was a fire fight, I might have been dead and I'm a good shot with nerves of steel. My nickname when I was young was Fearless. So I back this guy's statement, you gotta train gun fights to actually be successful in a gun fight.

    It might be worth mentioning that one of the top things gun owners go to prison for is brandishing a firearm. Some people think it is a deterrent, but even if it does work, that gun owner can later face jailtime for threatening someone with a firearm, especially if it was determined that the firearm was not required for self defense. Basically, don't skin that smoke wagon unless you're ready to throw down.

    • @jamesbuchanan3145
      @jamesbuchanan3145 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      On the upside, where I live, merely "displaying" a firearm isn't "brandishing". It isn't brandishing until you point it at a person.

    • @newscoulomb3705
      @newscoulomb3705 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jamesbuchanan3145 Some states very specifically define the act of brandishing a firearm. It's more than just displaying the gun; it requires threatening the other party with it. However, it also doesn't necessarily require you to point the gun at the other party. If you threaten them by referencing the firearm, that can be enough (e.g., texting someone that you are going to shoot them).

    Things i didn't realise until i had fought:
    1) Fatigue wall really is a wall.
    Got into it with a couple of guys with knives. Wasn't carrying my FA because i had to go into a building that did not permit me to do so.
    I didn't know i was getting tired until my tank ran empty. Thankfully only one aggressor had real enthusiasm and he and i spent our energy together.
    2) You can miss at point blank.
    Drew and fired while people were scattering amongst us. I have carried forever and there are no excuses for lack of practice but somehow with all the movement going on i missed. Thankfully again he hadn't considered that we were going to fight back and his reaction was to become Usain Bolt, either he completely forgot he had a gun after my first shot went off or he didn't have ammo in his pistol... I often wonder why he didn't fire because i drew from under the drop, if strategically.
    3) Doing damage becomes a secondary consideration.
    Going back to the knife fight. We put a lot of effort into trying to cut each other but for me, i think i spent more energy trying to avoid their blades. The tall one who wasn't very active seemed to lose interest early on when he took his swing at me and i came in over it with my blade, i think his aversion to getting slashed also superseded his desire to land a strike.

    I helped CREATE IPSC, in 1976 and open division matches have virtually NOTHING to do with realistic civilian self defense shooting. You're 10x as likely to have to fire inside 10 FEET as you are to have to do so beyond 10 YDS. Everyone is WAY too slow. What you need to be able to do is react, draw from concealment and hit TWO men 's chest, 6 ft apart, at 10 ft, in one second. this is not that hard to do if you start "hand in pocket". A man can be all OVER you in 1.0 second flat, standing start, from 10 ft away. and that's typically the range at which crap starts. (for civilians) Cops might have to deal with somewhat longer distances, but you aint a cop. You wont get a pass for where all of your wild misses landed. You'll end up in prison and get your ass sued-off.

    Good info. For me, I learned the best survival skills growing up in a big urban city going to crap public schools, getting robbed, fighting, winning and losing.. Rule #1 for me was pay attention to the surroundings and the behavior or others, make good decisions, and avoid a problem area and problem people. Just because you got a gun doesnt mean you shouldn't avoid the conflict. Then you gotta know how to trade punches! Guns are a good tool, but if you dont have the confidence to throw blows and take some blows, you wont be an effective combatant, even with a gun. People who carry guns and think that will solve the problem are missing some info. Its cool to watch Navy Seal guys talk and share their experience, the skills they share are legit especially weapons and CQB, and I learn from them, but what have they done in the hood? In the American streets? In a parking lot, its a different kind of combat. Ive been involved in a little bit of all types of conflict, guns and no guns.. I still rely on what I learned growing up in the city, reading people and situations, and yes, running if I need to. I train to win, throw punches, get punched, and shoot my gun if I need to.. One of your points was important, guns fights dont usually happen while you are standing in a perfect stance looking at your red dot. They may? But I woudlnt count on it. Train your mind first.

    Everything you said, yep. "LUCK", that can be the equalizer to any and all of them. So control what "Luck" you can control - eg. In shape, relatively mobile, vetted equip., some regular training. These help with your "Luck" and can be the difference whether good or bad luck but "Luck" will have her say. And anybody that thinks they can completely remove "luck" from the equation hasn't been there.

    My CCW have evolved over 30 years. I started with a Springfield 1911 in .45ACP and at times carried a Ruger Redhawk in .44 loaded with Specials. I moved to Kimber Micro9, which was fantastic to carry, but took me quite a while to get good with!
    So I moved back to a revolver because I shoot them best.
    A Ruger GP100 in .357 and a 4” barrel is my best shooting handgun Ive ever owned, but its a bit bulky to conceal carry in hot weather.
    So now my desicated concealed sidearm is a 4” Ruger SP101 in .357 loaded with defensive specials. Its a fantastic balance of concealable size, power and accuracy for me.
    Im confident with it and train reloading because its only a 5 shot! Speedloaders are the only way to go!
    Id love to carry some kind of auto again, but havent found one that I like, fits my hands and that I can shoot accurately.

    the FBI ballistic requirements for pistol ammo is bs, It's based upon a very serious desire to blamed the 40x that they MISSED Platt in Miami (at 6m and less) on the 9mm silvertip jhp that pierced his arm and one lung. That random-luck hit kept him from killing all 8 feds that day with his Mini-14. The guy that hit Platt in the arm MISSED him another 14x. If Platt had had ear protection, armor and a .30 AK, with steel-cored ammo, so he could have shot thru the Fed's cars, he'd have gotten away unscathed. Matix was a worthless burden. It was all platt. With ONE arm and a bullet in one lung, he took-on 8 pistol armed men. He killed 2 of them and badly-wounded 5 more. TRY using a peep-sighted rifle with one arm, guys.

    Hesitation, in every point in life where an opportunity presents itself, will get you deeper in the same 💩 you're trying to avoid. If you see a moment to come out on top or give yourself an advantage, seize it. You usually only get one chance, if you get it at all, to raise your chances of victory. You see a sketchy guy come in with the ski mask, leave. You see a person hanging around your vehicle, get assistance before you approach. Aggressive person approaching you and you can tell they're clutching something? You need to put a hand up to push away and the other hand needs to find your cordless hole puncher. Even in traffic, we hesitate and make the situation worse by letting precious milliseconds pass. Observe. Process. Commit. Hesitation wastes all the time you had available to keep your fate in YOUR hands, not in someone else's.

    I would just like to add this for what its worth if it helps somebody. I had a particular philosophy when I was in the military. It has since changed when I became a police officer.
    First, violence state side works different. I had a guy that got robbed at a gas station. He was a SOF dude legit. He was traveling the interstate with his family on vacation, stopped for gas in my district. I work in hell. Homeless dude hit him in the head with a rock from behind at the pump. He never got to his gun he had on him and was very embarrased. Life happens and you can never walk a razors edged indefinatly. He said he knew he shouldnt have been there but had no choice, life happened. Guy was never caught.
    Second, I have had the either fortune or misfortune to routinly interact with very violent and dangeroud people. These people very often carry firearms. Every firearm I recover or see recovered is a nine or forty glock with an extended mag. Extended mags have a weird street cred right now. Looks cool when they post on tik tok or instagram. Carry ammo.

    What!? You mean I can’t just watch John Wick, a few Jason Statham movies, strap a gun on and be ready to go? In all seriousness though, as silly as it may seem, I found VR shooting games like Pavlov can really help shine light on how you may react in a real gunfight. Although it’s just a game, it still comes down to having at least Weapon platform knowledge, speed, skill, and accuracy, and how proficient you are at all of those in a “stressful” you or them scenario. It’s no replacement for real training and range time, but it definitely helps. If you cant manage in a simulated gunfight, imagine how you’d be with a real gun being pointed and/or shot at you. And it does help with situational awareness. You have to look around, pay attention, think before you just run out, your looking for a safe cover, listening intently to the sounds around you, making split second decisions, trying to get them before they get you, trying to stay accurate. And the adrenaline you get in VR can be intense. You get tunnel vision and everything they way it tricks your brain into suspending reality and accepting it as the new real. I’ve done it and have seem improvement my my motor functions and stuff. In VR you have unlimited second chances and can reflect on your actions and practices that for real life and run drills in real life at the range or whatever or during dry fire, draw, target acquisition training, or whatever. And I’m no expert, I’m just saying how VR has helped me and has shown me my weaknesses and what would have actually gotten me killed in real life, or what would have left me mortality wounded, incapacitated, or whatever. It made me think differently about a lot of things. And I play games on hard difficulty where I cant take 50 rounds snd heal. I get hit, im done. Also, I play games other than Pavlov in terms of shooters, but my point is, i use those as ways to see where I need to improve if I were to ever be in some terrible fight for my life. So I mix real and virtual training lol and obviously video games isn’t a one to one thing, but it can help improve some basics and muscle memory and to help you focus more and think a bit more critically in a race of that nature. And even playing those games, you can tell who’s actually skilled. It’s not a few keyboard and mouse clicks, your body is the controller basically lol you are the character through and through. If you dont know to load a gun and chamber a round, know about safety and select fire opinions for multiple platforms, dont know how to aim rifles and/or pistols, dont know your dominant eye, the difference in calibers, recoil….you wont have fun in those games, and if you already have no fundamental gun skills…yeah…those games will show you how much you dont know. If youre like us, you’re going in with a massive advantage. Same as real life. Except when you die in VR you can just take the headset off and go about your life lol sorry for the mini novel, but I wish more people would see the potential benefits of VR shooting simulators, even just the shooting range ones. You can still learn the basics of aiming, sight alignment, etc at different ranges in a safe environment without real guns, no chances of an ND. And then you can translate that when you can get to the real range. You can safely play with different guns, learn the manual of arms for them, some of them teach you how to disassemble, clean, and put back together the guns just like in real life. I see some real benefits in that for all of us whether we’re new to guns or not so new to them. I know it’s still a niche thing and pricey to get into, but I think it’s worth it. I dont think LEO’s and Military would use VR simulations if there was no benefit.

    It's not debatable that subcompact pistols are harder to shoot that compact or full sized ones. However, 99.9% of civilians carrying probably will never even have to draw their gun in anger, so I suppose not getting made and all the headache that comes with it is more important than efficiency.

    • @unclefreedom213
      @unclefreedom213  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So if 99.9 percent never draw does that make it less relevant. Prepare and be ready for the worst and if you never see it great. But if it's your day i would not want to be found lacking. As far as not getting made. The overwhelming majority of people in the world can't even tell me if they guy they saw was white, black, asian or a space alien. Truthfully the only people really paying that kind of attention are cops and other gun people

    • @tacticalclochard
      @tacticalclochard 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@unclefreedom213 Where I live we had a case of an off duty corrections officer who got made in a movie theater a few years back. Some concerned citizen called the cops (nowadays they even call the cops on hunters coming out of a gun store with a rifle in a case) and their heavy handed approach cost him a lot of money and time. He ultimately won all litigation against the state. The police, among other things, had "misplaced" his gun. But who wants to go through something like that?
      Someone once said "A handgun is either good for shooting or good for carrying." It's a trade off, and given the low probability of needing lethal force, all I say is I would rather err on the side of concealability. Also, IMO concealability is a tactical advantage for any gun as well that may balance that it handles less well. Under no circumstances would I want to be made by threats.

    A buddy of mine is a former State trooper. I have had some interesting discussions with him and a couple of his retired cohorts about self defense and CCW based on their experiences. I'll summarize it like this: they will not carry 380. They carry 9mm most of the time because it's convenient in small pistols but NONE of them particularly likes it. They DO like and carry 357, 40, or 45 whenever they can. One of them likes 10mm. But 380 is no-go territory - every one of them had a story about someone who used 380 in a fight and it was absolutely ineffective.

The two times in my life I was preparing to pull my firearm in a potential crime situation, despite all the training and combat experience, your body is naturally flooded with a billion chemicals.
