  • For most mothers, organizing any wedding is stressful enough. But what if you are also an Australian-born Royal Princess and expected to supervise complex Hindu traditions stretching back centuries?
As the first non-Balinese Royal bride, Princess Asri is also the buffer between her daughter-in-law to be and the rest of the Royal family, uncomfortable with the fact that the groom, Asri’s ‘Indo-Aussie son Max, is marrying a famous Indonesian actress, Happy Salma. And Happy’s Muslim family is none too happy about her marrying a Hindu, prince or not…
With unique access to this extraordinary Royal Wedding, the audience travels deep into the heart of the little-known world of Balinese Hinduism as it smacks up against the 21st-century cross-cultural religious divide. Enter into a world of pomp and ceremony, obligations, strictly defined roles, business interests, politics, and intrigue…

As a Filipino, I honestly get jealous watching our southeast asian neighbors attracting Western visitors but still retaining most of their culture and customs. Here, we tend to be easily influenced by Western trends that we sometimes view our own as inferior :(

Bali is amazing, the way Balinese people accepted globalization, with modern shops and culture entering Bali, they still is one of the most traditional region in Indonesia, they hold their culture and customs so strong that when other cultures (not even from outside Indonesia, but from inside Indonesia) tries to dominate them, Balinese people stands their ground and keep holding onto their culture, people eventually learned that if you want to visit Bali, YOU need to respect their culture and customs, not the other way around, you decided to visit so you have to be respectful, and I just love that so much

I like how he mentions that living in the West has given him a perspective that can help his people progress without losing themselves to modern culture. Wonderful mindset to have.

They’re so far from the royalty we see everyday 😧😧😧 so humble! Even though they are separated by class, they’re all incredibly kind towards everyone. I’m amazed at how respectful the two princes and princess are.

I understand that this is a documentary but the family is like a cast of gorgeous people and the entire village is so talented it's become too mythical. All the colours 🤩

I can't imagine how the Australian lady must have adjusted herself in such a vastly culturally different family.. I guess bcoz of her husband's love towards her maybe.... :) I loved this video a lot.... :)

I'm an Indonesian myself, and I'm really proud of my country. A lot of foreigners noticing my country's greatness felt like a blessing. To think that I almost dislike it, because the western culture interests me more, just hurts me. This video reminds me how rich we are with cultures, languages, and how I should appreciate it more. Plus, going to Bali is expensive enough if you compare Rupiah and Dollar, this video gave me an experience that I could've paid if I travel there. Also, I feel like this could be a movie and make a fortune, but then again this story would be less recognizable. I learned so much from this video. Thank you so much! ❤
