Just got off Sky Princess this morning and have 3 of these, so will be watching this after the endless amounts of washing

Hope you had a good time! These medallions are so much better from a passenger perspective than the old credit-card things... shame they're not reusable is all

Hope Carnival are listening, such a simple solution to fix. Well put together video with good research. Well done! 🎉

Thanks, I’m really hoping they produce a Medallion v2 addressing that issue.

🎉 Thanks, that was very interesting! Going to sail on Princess with a medallion in a few months.
Do the medallions fit in cases meant for Apple airtag? We won't be able to get our medallion until Embarkation Day so I'd like to pre-purchase something novel.

Yes it fits AirTag accessories perfectly but make sure it’s easily visible that it’s your Medallion or security will stop you as you’re checking in and out of places to make you show it!

Ive been wondering why Carnival has not brought this tech to all of their brands while at the same time curious why Princess was using new ones each time. Maybe once they fix the single use issue, they will relase it fleetwide

Yes I'm wondering why they haven't rolled it out across their other brands too, unless this is their way of differentiating Princess as a premium line.

I wonder if this is also used in hotels (I'm thinking Las Vegas...). I assume it was made clear to you before you booked about the medallion? It's a great concept but surely an app on your phone (with a QR code backup) would do the job and be a lot more sustainable...

I'm not sure about Vegas, but I do know that because Carnival have the patent it would be tricky for other businesses to copy without licensing. The partner company who worked with Carnival on it got into a bit of legal trouble a few years ago for developing a near identical solution for a competitor. I don't know for certain who that competitor was, but Virgin Voyages happen to have an extremely similar system in use on their ships. Technically I think a phone would work, but logistically that would be a nightmare to make sure it works with all phone models reliably and it also puts the control out of Princess's hands. I think the Medallion is the right solution for the job here, it just needs a bit more thought in terms of sustainability.

Seems very short sighted to not be able to reuse the medallions after use, not the right message for Carnival.
Some serious stress testing must have gone into the system before they let it loose on passengers. Or I hope it was tested thoroughly!
There are of course all the privacy concerns of every passenger having a personal tracker onboard the ship. I guess that’s part of their terms and conditions that you have to accept that.

You're on their ships subject to maritime / their law so what they say goes really. They have to account for passenger safety and this allows them to do that. There have been security cameras covering most of the ships' public areas for as long as I can remember so there's never any privacy or expectation of privacy on a ship really apart from in your stateroom. I think the benefits and passenger experience far outweighs the perception of spying in this case.

This has been around since before Covid ......

Yeah I know and they rolled it out to every ship during the downtime. But nobody else seems to have cut one open to take a look.
