I just wanted to know if you learnt Spanish fluently from señor jordan's video, though he's teaching everything in a great way he did mention in the beginning that he's not teaching us to be fluent but just the basics. So could yoi learn fluently from his videos or did you use any other resources too. Please let me know, it'd be of great help for me too! Gracias!

    the last challenge he gave, translating the "I don't go to the pool because I don't like to swim", i paused it and tried my best to do it from memory and i got it correct. this may seem like a small feat but i just started learning and have been putting in so much effort and time and i was so proud of being able to do this. gracias senor jordan i never thought i'd have any idea how to learn this language and i feel like i know more than i ever did in school years ago. it makes sense for once instead of feeling like a feeble attempt at memorizing concepts that didn't register with me. i feel like i have a real idea of how the language works in its basic state for the first time. thank you!!

    @Curaababyy
    "me gusta" really means grammatically "it is pleasing to me"
    so Yo isn't appropriate there... instead we use "a mí" to emphasize it but it's not necessary. "Me gusta" is sufficient.

  • @SeñorJordan
    @SeñorJordan  13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @2011Queenn
    ir just means to go... the verb is a little weird so you can't guess that the the other forms look like it.
    voy = I go
    vas = you go,.. etc

  • @SeñorJordan
    @SeñorJordan  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Right, the complete sentence is:
    I don't go to the pool because I don't like to swim.
    Because I am not saying "...because I don't swim." it's not 'no nado'. Nado means 'I swim'. I want to say "I don't like to" which requires another verb.
    Generally in Spanish, we only change the first verb when we have two verbs like that back to back (unless we're listing off things we do... so I like to swim: Me gusta nadar. 'Me gusta' is already changed into the correct form so we don't need to change nadar

    'Castillian' is a term used for Spanish from Spain.
    Latin American Spanish refers to Spanish used in Central and South America.
    Words might differ depending on countries/regions. The main differences between Castillian / Latin American are:
    1) Castillian tends to pronounce 'c' (before e and i) and 'z' as the English 'th' sound
    2) vosotros/vosotras is used for 'you' (plural familiar); ustedes reserved for 'you' (plural formal). In Latin American Spanish, ustedes is 'you' (plural) in both cases.

    They mean different things.... 'quiere' means 'he/she wants'
    so...
    quiere ir al cine = he / she wants to go to the movies.
    while...
    Voy al cine = I go to the movies / I'm going to the movies.

    if you watch the videos on 'me gusta'... I'm pretty sure that I explain that you don't change the verb after 'gustar'...
    just like in English I don't say "I like to I swim"... In Spanish, I don't have to repeat the idea of 'I swim' since I am the one swimming in the sentence.

    've' is a command (it's a little different) "(you) Go!"

  • @SeñorJordan
    @SeñorJordan  13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @2011Queenn
    if there is an action already in front, we'll keep 'ir' as 'to go'
    quiere ir = he / she wants to go.
    Like I don't say "he wants he goes", I don't say "quiere va" in Spanish.

    gustar really means 'to be pleasing to/to please'
    so really you're saying in that sentence "Because No to me it is pleasing."
    Of course we don't say it that way in English because it sounds choppy and instead we say "Because I don't like____"
    It just has to do with gustar's real meaning. Hope that helps.

    Great question. The simple explanation is that you don't usually change the verb once it goes after another verb. As long as the subject is the same. So you'll notice that with one of the other videos on "ir"... we don't change the verb afterwards...
    Ex:
    Voy a comprar un coche. (I am going to buy a car).
    I hope that clarifies.
    -Sr. J
