- 2012 Mercedes C250, includes 2008-2015, door handle replacement. I am doing the driver side door handle but this applies to the rest of the doors as well. Some of the tools you will need are: drill and drill bits, trim tools, 10 mm socket, ratchet/impact driver, phillip screwdriver, and a pick. You may need more but atleast these will be needed. I did order the new one from Amazon as it was cheaper there than anywhere else.

I called Mercedes to order a replacement handle, they told me they don't sell just the handle, I had to buy the door panel (which included the handle) for $1600; I hung up and ordered the handle for $22 bucks online and plan to replace it myself after watching this . . . . . . . That's nearly a $1600 savings . . . . . . . Thanks for posting this!
Yeah they will not sell the handle individually. The whole design is unnecessary. I'm glad I could help you out. If you need anything else feel free to ask.

Your welcome and luckily these are non-interference engines. It can seem intimidating but if you have the right tools and some car knowledge, it actuly goes pretty smooth. Hardest part was breaking and compressing chain links.

@@obahhtv4082 yes, it was the exact kit I ordered. Also, in my last reply I did not mean the chain I meant removing the plastic after cutting the hold downs with a drill bit. Sorry, I was thinking about something else.

I know the dealer here in my area will not do a door handle repair but rather quote you an entire door card/panel assembly which is crazy expensive. If you feel comfortable with pulling the panel then the rest is actually rather easy.

They turned a simple task into an overly complicated puzzle. Plus, this is a common problem and the true correct way to solve it is to replace the entire door card assembly.
Yes! I have the same problem with my C250. I just haven’t had time yet. Doing it next weekend I think lol
@@operationoverhaulit’s $20 for the replacement handle, around $200 for secondhand door card assembly or new door card from Mercedes is $2000. I know what I’ll be doing, $20 and a couple of hours or finding a motor trimmer who can repair.

Just bought a 2011 used with a broken handle and window switch! Guy who sold it never mentioned broke switch after telling us the handle was an easy fix.

Wow, sorry to hear that. Mercedes really dropped the ball on the design and material choice for these door handles. I will someone made a good quality aluminum replacement for these because that would eliminate most of the issues. Hopefully it goes fairly smooth for you.

Here are a few things that I ran into that others may also find:
1. The upholstery padding on top of the door card (the part that tucks into the panel you're trying to remove) got plastic-welded to both long tabs. So I had to use a sharp edged tool to cut it free where it was stuck onto the connecting panel. Have to be careful not to peel the upholstery up and off the panel where it shows in the car.
2. The last white melted tit on top on the door latch side was too shallow to get a screw into, so I left it without a screw. Otherwise a screw would have punctured the upholstery on the other side of the door where you see it.
3. I used a 1/2" drill bit to cut the melted tits. I made sure it was sharp like new, and used very low rpm's like you did.
4. The door handle pin didn't extract like you said it should. So I had to use dikes to nip apart the handle down to the pin. I had 1/2 the pin showing full length. Then it still fought me to get it to pop out the back of the panel.
5. The customer purchased a metal handle (Made in CHIna), so hopefully it won't break again.
6. The new pin was too tight in the bore. So I had to tap it in with a backup piece so as not to damage the end of the pin. The end of the pin that didn't finish flush like the original one. It stuck out about 1/8". The handle pivot was a bit 'tight', but it worked good nonetheless.
7. The new cable keeper clip that was in the hold of handle wouldn't hold the cable in tight. So I replaced it with the original clip.
8. I removed the entire upper trim plastic. Made removing the door card much easier.
9. The BIGGEST improvement was I pilot drilled every hole to the bottom of each tit using a 1/16" drill bit. Otherwise, most of the screws would have wallowed-out the tit and been useless. Pilot drilling made all the screws go in good and tight.

Your welcome and if it is the plastic piece I am thinking of, it will not be a problem except you may not have the lights working around the door handle with the leds
Do you have a video on how you got that piece off, I’m hung up on that and I don’t want to break it? How is it held in? Where do I need to push to release it

Your welcome and the design of this is not a good one. They over engineered this for what it is and used either cheap plastic or the wrong plastic for it.

another question, can we do this without removing all the wires and drill the panel? Why cannot we just replace the door directly after taking out the door panel?
You can, I called the dealer and was quoted 1600 just for the part. They don’t do all this work. They just replace the interior door and wanted to charge 860 for labor. Way too much. I’d rather try this for 20.00 and waste 8 hours of work. Lol!

I have a 2012 mercedes c250 sedan and the door handle broke off on the driver's side. I ordered a replacement on Amazon with screws for $10 before tax. It seems fragile and plastic. I couldn't find a heavy-duty version.
Yeah, none of them really feel great. I wish they would make a more durable upgraded handle that you could purchase.
How long did that handle last. I got one from Amazon for a different car. Broke in less than a week.
The handle on this car is still working to my knowledge and I do the maintenance on it. I have not seen it in about 2 or 3 months since the last service.

It has been a minute since I have recorded that lol, but if I remember correctly it is part of the light that illuminates the door handle. I'll look up the schematic and see if I can find the exact part for you.

Yeah, I'm probably a further away than you want to drive. Such a common issue on these cars.

A question, if I order a new indoor panel, do I need to go through this process?
If you order a new panel you do not have to go through all of this process. You just remove the panel and replace the switches from the old panel. The new one will have the door handle on it.
Question - For a 2013 e350 - I needed to replace the rear passenger door.
I was fortunate to find a replacement that matches except for the exterior door handle. The original door has the touch sensor, the replacement does not. Would the replacement door be wired for the touch sensor handle.
You would more than likely have to replace the door handle and wire it up to make it function correctly. If it was my car, I would try to switch everything from the old over to the new door that you are able to salvage to make the swap easier as well.
Swapping the doors and interior cards was easy. The non touch handle matches the cars paint, the touch has a chrome finish, thus changing the handles is a must. I want to avoid a situation looking for a connection that doesn’t exist.
from the looks of it, if everything is changed, then you should be good and have all the same connections.

Would a 2010 model exterior skin door fit a 2013 model?
They should be the same thing. From everything I looked up and read, they are the exact same door inside and out.
I accidentally drilled through the plastic so the screws won't catch. Can I wax it together? or use longer screws?
You could use longer screws, just be careful not to go through the other side of the door panel. I do not know if this will work, but you could possibly try using an epoxy glue to build up the area again and try screwing into that.

From the looks of it, it is more than likely a 1/2" bit.

I do agree this is a bad way to do this but both bmw and mercedes have their issues. Just depends on which ones you are willing to deal with more. But this could have been a way simpler job.
