OpenBSD, or any BSD, is amazing to work with.
Started quite some time ago with OpenBSD (early 2009).
It gives me huge nostalgia all the time when running a machine with puffy on it.
Btw: You might want to indulge into the fantastic man pages and the FAQ - there for sure is much great info in those.

I recently helped my sister install a Linux distro on her Lenovo Think Pad. It went good, but nowhere near the simplicity and the experience of installing OpenBSD on my PC. Half the commands I used running Sun OS, AIX, Solaris, BSD, HP-UX even the original OpenSolaris didn't cooperate with me when I even tried to play a simple trick on her laptop: banner YOU ARE SCREWED!!! didn't want to execute the command. Damn! No wonder why I love BSD Unix (especially OpenBSD) over any Linux distros.

Nice video. Just one thing my OCD has to point out: That default window manager is FVWM which is extremly powerful. It is not TWM. Also, the default config of FVWM in OpenBSD is said to be the founder´s (Theo De Raadt) personal config. And yes, I´m the world´s biggest FVWM fanboy. Try it out, test some of the many config files you find online. When you finally get your own config the way you want it, there are no going back. You can thank me later... :)

i like fvwm however a lot of work needs to be done to have a complete experience and most people do not show all of their configs on how to make it work like a desktop environment...
it is a liy (learn it yourself) epxerience...
but with some effort put in it might work good...

Please also bear in mind that the version of FVWM in OpenBSD base is very old and represents a version of FVWM which has not been supported upstream for a very long time, but also is the last revision before FVWM changed its license to the GPL. The version in ports has many newer features and supports things such as the EWMH.

you are correct but i have to add it is safe to use fvwm 1 mean when a wm or icons themes e.t.c are not updated it's not a big deal compared to thing like kernel, package managers and so on@@fvwm

I'm with you. FVWM is my favorite. I guess using OpenBSD, we begin to develop the same mindset as Lord Theo does. I'm fine with that.

@@RHTORAS- that's okay. I prefer FVWM 1 anyway. I have a PC running WIN7 intentionally because I don't want all those HDD space hog updates from WIN10.

Thanks for the video and showing htop! I thought my OpenBSD build was the only one running at 1.2gb of ram because so many people on forums say it’s lightweight.

Of the different BSDs throughout the years, I've primarily used OpenBSD since 1998. I already had eight years experience in various Unix shops (everything run from the shell prompt, no GUI & DE). I actually prefer using the prompt over a DE. I feel so much more content and it actually makes me think, unlike these Linux distros where you're practically handheld running the OS.

Hi there thanks for watching! Here's the ffmpeg command for recording the screen in OpenBSD. ffmpeg -f x11grab -s 1920x1080 -r 30 -i $DISPLAY -c:v libx264 -preset ultrafast ~/Videos/INSERT NAME OF FILE HERE.mkv
