This should have been titled 'trying my own daily routine'
😂
I know right lol
If you’re finding your knitting is tight, you can go up a needle size to help loosen the tension. I’ve been knitting 10+ years and just naturally have a tighter tension. I routinely have to go up a needle size or two to match the pattern gauge. Some people have looser than average tension and have to decrease sizes. Doesn’t matter what size you use if the gauge matches the pattern. 😊
Daily I'm confronted with the depths of my ignorance when I can't even read this sentence without having to research about 6 things in it. Doffs cap to you, talented crafts person. The world is better for you all.
You are a very cozy human being with a soft and wonderful voice Christy! Have yourself a wonderful weekend! And happy reading 📖 ❤
you're so real for singing the alphabet i do that all the time, and as always such a nice and cozy vlog, really made me more interested in reading dorian gray, he's been eyeing me on my shelf for a while now
Le Papier is my signature scent for the colder months. I get so many compliments when I wear it. I switch to Philosykos in the summer (smells like fresh fig trees in the bottle but does some kind of magic when in the skin).
Wow..I was just thinking about you and why you haven't posted for so long. A smile came to my face after seeing your video ❤
Yay knitting! A tip if you want cheap yarn that for practice or beginner projects is to check at a charity shop. People donate rest yarn from projects and whole yarn balls they haven't used, and sometimes you can find very good quality yarn for super cheap:) There are also lots of wonderful people who've made youtube videoes of all kinds of knitting techniques.I classify myself as an advanced knitter, but those videoes still save me, cause even if I've done a technique lots of times it falls out of my brain if it's been a few months since last time
One of my favourite types of vlogs of yours! Nice Sunday treat!
I think crochet is easier. I started with that and later tried knitting. I learned both on that crochet for Dummies and knitting for Dummies series which I got at a used book store. My suggestion is relax and practice step 1 until you have that learned thoroughly. Then go to step 2 and so on. It just takes time. Enjoy each stage.
Books are great, but when it comes to learning how to knit all by yourself, videos are definitely the way to go! Once you've got all the basics down (by doing it again and again and again), it's going to become relaxing, I promise you ;) (except when you need to count - then it's hell). Keep on going, don't get discouraged. I strongly recommend VeryPink Knits's videos, they are amazing.
I try to constantly watch your videos, because I have been subscribed to your channel for a long time.
But I am writing a comment only now, I want to thank you for the interesting videos and positive things that you share with us.
Yesterday, the Russian army again bombed civilians in our place: three drones were purposefully sent to a hospital, and another to a residential building. As a result, 9 civilians died and 21 were injured. I don't know if I will live, so I hasten to thank you for this great video!
Thank you once again and greetings from Ukraine!
May Allah bless Ukraine and people in Gaza. 🍉
I don't have words--I'm just so, so sorry that's happening to you and your country.
So much love, hope, and prayer from me to you and your family. May you all one day soon enjoy peace and better times. ❤
о, ще українець. my city gets bombed every night.
@@wisperingbeard Thank you for your kind words, prayers and wishes!
It is very necessary for my soul!
Love the Sleep Token at the background 😄
Love the new video Christy! I’m a knitter & crocheter myself. I struggled to learn how to purl initially! 😂 I recommend learning through stocking stitch. This is where you alternate knit and purl rows.
I've been knitting and crocheting for 20 years, and I suggest sizing up your needles! That should help you with your tension and keep the stitches from becoming too tight as you finish the row. Keep at it, the book isn't lying, once you get it down, the stitches will become second nature! ❤
Also, I read The Picture Of Dorian Gray recently and I was surprised by how much I loved it. The writing is SO pretentious but I was living for it, lol. Henry was one of my favorite characters as well although I couldn't stand him half the time lol. Love these day in my life vlogs! ❤❤❤❤
When I was a child mom brought to me big yarns and needles and a crochet to spend my summers wisely and I did good then now I don't have any patience to sit all the time and to make even a stitch, I forgot all about how to do it, so keep trying haha. 😅
It's also really funny because new knitters who learn the purl stitch first say the same things about the knit stitch; they struggle with it, say it's more difficult, and find it much easier to do the one they learned first! It's just a matter of practice and you'll get it for sure!
That's so true! 😅 I find purl stitch easier than knit 😄
As if I weren't already obsessed enough with your videos, now there's knitting too?? Don't worry, it's confusing as heck to begin with but you'll get there. Keep up the beautiful positivity and wishing you rest and relaxation
Have you read Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk? It won the Nobel a few years back. I think you might like it.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video, it was a lovely addition to my lunch break! I'm so looking forward to reading your first novel once it's out, and I wanted to let you know that you've really inspired me to be more consistent with my own writing journey.
Such a nice cozy vlog! And an advice I would invest in other needles, which are not so chunky 😅 it helped me a lot with my knitting❤🎉 and I couldn't learn it from a book but a YT video. 😊
That's so exciting that you're working on your knitting skills! Patience is key, you'll get there 😊 The purl stitch is trickier - some folks very much dislike doing the purl stitch and mostly knit "in the round" to avoid doing the purl stitch (this is actually a very popular way of knitting in the Shetland Islands in Scotland - in their traditional knitting style they call purl stitch "the wrong stitch" and basically avoid doing it as much as possible! 😂). It is still worth learning in my opinion, but rest assured that you can knit lots of beautiful patterns without needing to know the purl stitch.
I'm with you on needing to know how something works in order for it to stick in my head. Perhaps it will help to think of it like this: when you're creating a purl stitch, you're basically creating a backwards knit stitch. In a sense, the purl stitch loads the yarn onto the needle in the opposite direction than when you're doing a knit stitch. That's why you hold the yarn to the front for a purl, and hold the yarn to the back for a knit.
I love it when you do deep dives into books- I’ve found some great book recommendations from you through these
Got excited to see you knitting! I was working on knitting up a pair of wool socks whilst watching this cosy video. A common misconception is that knitting and all things female art are easy to do (I blame the patriarchy) but keep at it! Your female ancestors will be proud!
Hi, Christy! Fellow knitter, here! Sometimes it's better to just go through the motions for a while without understanding "how it works" so you can get some practice in. In my experience, if you start by just learning the basic knit and purl stitches, the "how" eventually starts to make sense.
Pearl stitch tip that helped me when I learned! Pearl is just backwards Knit stitch
I was hoping for a video from you! This was such a fun cozy surprise to wake up to. It’s so lovely to see cafes and malls in Adelaide - it looks so aesthetic? And so walkable?? Coming from Sydney (somewhat aesthetic in spots and not all that walkable depending on where you live), you really make Adelaide look so inviting.
TH-cam is your friend when it comes to learning knitting skills. That’s my experience, anyway. I never really got what the books illustrated until I was taught by TH-cam videos. Now it seems obvious. 😊🌸
Ha ha ha - I recently started knitting and I too went straight to Sheep & Stitch on TH-cam 😂
Lovely video as always. Having a lot of head/neck pain so it's a nice calming distraction. On your love of the ocean, do enjoy swimming in it and/or have you been scuba diving?
Also, you talking about knitting hurting your brain is so relatable. I get brain fog/burn out so easily, especially on new tasks or tasks I've taken a break from, so I feel like this a lot. The last completely new thing I tried was Japanese at the start of the year and I fell off by May/June because I no longer had the brain bandwidth for it for various reasons, but I hoping to pick it back up again.
Hi! I've been lurking for a while and love your videos! Advancing in knitting can be challenging. My job is teaching people crafting things and I'd be happy to help if you'd like! I've been knitting since i was about 12.
Oh yes, I do miss your bookstore, coffee shop, book commentary videos. I'm glad you finally got some time for retail excursions.
I just love your work so much, Christy! I'm also a writter back in Brazil, and your videos inspire me in so many ways, thank you!!!
"a cozy day-" okay, cool, say no more. Main keyword for major relaxing vibes detected. Get me a cup of tea and a snugly blanket because I'm sitting down to watch Christy's new vlog. 🥰
Sometimes with knitting, DK feels not very nice in the hands, it doesn't have much stretch, it might squeak if its tight. Also, having nicer needles can help, even for beginners! Yarn with more wool content will have more stretch and feel better in the hands.
This advice really helped me when I went back to knitting, similarly to you, I knew how to knit when I was young but only very basic stitches.
I've been reading Japanese and Korean books too >< I'm really looking forward to Marigold Mind Laundry!!! It looks so good!
There are loads of good knitting how-to videos on youtube, they may be helpful. Go easy on yourself! Good luck with your knitting adventures 😊
Oh, it's such a funny coincidence - I pick up an acril wool randomly last Thursday, because I saw it in store and that reminded me I did some knitting as a kid. I'm currently during kniting my first scarf, but I didn't attempt the pearl stich yet, I'm mastering the easy one 😅 it's wonderful to keep my hands away from Instagram. Also, I had the same problem with really tight loops, but it gets better after like a 10-15 rows, I discovered that I need not to tighten them at all, because they are doing that themselves when you slide them futher on the row.
I've been planning to restart knitting for months already (or, better say, teaching myself how to knit properly) Thank you for the inspiration😊
I love knitting, I sure don't know knit sweaters haha. I am trying to work on learning how to crochet. What's the difference between self-publishing and going through a publishing company especially if you are interested in publishing poetry? On the holding it, you might also just need to loosen your grip on the yarn
As someone who also holds the yarn very tightly, I can attest that purl stitch is truly my nemesis. Can be difficult to persevere when it's kind of supposed to be "effortless" lmao, but we'll get there for sure!
The struggle all crafters go through at the beginning! Perl is basically a reverse knit i.e. rather than up and behind, it's down and to the front and you wrap the needle with the yarn the opposite way. Hope you figure it out! x
“so i ended up cooking this thing for lunch that i made” lol literally noting down this into my quote notebook for my future writing inspo and ideas ))
Very Pink Knits and Nimble Needles are great youtube channels for learning knitting. Nimble Needles has a video on stitch anatomy where he shows how different stitches are structured using giant yarn and it will help so much with your "I want to understand it"
I just got back into knitting too! My cousin is having a baby, so making her a baby blanket. I made a fair isle sweater and then quit. It was so hard, but it did teach me everything about sweaters. Lol
The Slipknot joke was great
It's necessary to watch your video in the Autumn days 😍
Actually after my last book shopping, I stopped for a while due to the situation that happening in my country , I hope you are hearing news about Lebanon, I am going to save money for urgent cases only, no body knows what will happen to us unfortunately and sadly many cities in my country has been destroyed fully and many people are passed away 😢. I did a short film about my birthday just a day before that happening, I want to steal some joy from life. 😢
Purl Soho has good video tutorials and demonstrations here on YT for knitting.
Even though I watch knitting videos I never got the hang of knitting haha and crochet instead.
Yay, my beloved Christy is back! 🩷
Finally, the long awaited video is finally here🥰🎉🥳.
L‘eau papier is my daily scent i love it soooo much ☺️ so worth it!
🤣🤣HOLY SHIT!!I don't think i've laughed so hard in a long time. Watching you sit in that cozy little corner with the warm lighting and gingham dress trying to not to fray mentally while hate knitting to blaring metal music ....all in your "a cozy day in my life" video... I was giggling wildly with you the whole way. What a hoot! 🤣🤣
I recommend tapestry and I promise you it's a lot easier 😂
yaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy christy posted!!
eating doria, reading dorian gray... love it
Hi. I love your vedio and you look so nice 🥰🥰
Yay!! I love these videos!
Christy's grandma era 😊
I love how cosy your videos are.
Have you made a video all about gothic as a genre? I'd be super interested in that!
A very very long time ago I did: th-cam.com/video/hUfm-ZNjLns/w-d-xo.html 💛
hi, i'm from brazil, I have a question: if I subscribe to patreon today, will i have access to all previous videos i missed??
Yes! you get access to everything previously posted to that tier. I think there's over 90 videos on there now, across the different tiers 💛💛
@@christy-anne-jones Sold 🤍🤩
The knitting part was hilarious and very reassuring! I learned to knit a few years ago and often when i pick it up i have to relearn the basics. The pattern language still looks like gobbledegook to me.
Watching youtube video tutorials helped me to learn casting on and off ❤
