Less than a minute in and Brian is already killing it… spinning in his chair, the cheerfulness in his voice announcing Nate AND Laura are gone, and slamming down the pic of his own family. This is why I’m a Brian fan.
The way Dusty and Aaron crack each other up is priceless. They're constantly still giggling long after the joke is over and it is the best. So glad Dusty was added to the roster! The chemistry is perfect!
Aaron: "Where are you walking shirtless to?" Dusty: (without skipping a beat) "To Target". I dont think i've laughed so hard before while watching this podcast. Gold, Dusty...GOLD!
Its allll coming together. When Dusty said, " When I was a kid, I put bugs in the microwave" that foreshadowed Dusty whole life of being a pesticides salesman and anti-microwave in one statement. I want to imagine that in Dustys pesticide training, he suggests a microwave ray gun to kill the bugs and being asked to leave. Haha keep up the good work boys!
When breakfast said he wished he got a valentine from everyone back in the day made me want to hug that stranger. Love yall thanks for everything. 146 episodes of greatness.
I wasn’t too sure when Dusty was first introduced as the new 4th but quickly liked him. I’ve got to say he’s really been shining these last few weeks. I’m definitely having a good time.
I know more about Dusty's opinions on various subjects than I do about the opinions of most of my friends and family. And that's why I love this podcast.
Nate is missed, but these episodes without him only make me want a BAD Lands Podcast! The chemistry between the three of them is absolutely unbelievable. I listen to the podcast at work and Im constantly LOLing. Thanks for the laugh boys.
Hey Nate, Aaron, Dusty, and Bartle Doo! This episode wins for transitions, especially Aaron's hard left from Dusty's serious thoughts on marriage to Hello Fresh ad read. Thanks for being one of the best parts of my work week. Keep up the great work!
Dusty shouting out “Thats the night that the lights went out!” after just having said “i can’t sing” was hilarious! Love you guys, but, i still miss Nate! Looking forward to next weeks episode!
1:47:28 - that transition out of what Dusty said when Aaron goes “and we’ve agreed to enter into a partnership with hello fresh” is the funniest thing Aaron has said or done on this podcast. That was gold.
“Reality shows bring out the worst in people” - this is why I’ve always wanted to create a reality show where the goal is to make as many friends as possible. Everyone could say “I came here to make friends”
I like that Dusty has deep knowledge of almost every holiday and conspiracy that may or may not be true, but doesn’t trust microwaves because he doesn’t know how they work, even though it’s pretty simple.
Single dad here...as I was listening to Dusty describe his take on marriage and it truly being an agreement that goes beyond how your feelings may fluctuate over time, I began to seriously consider past mistakes in my relationship with my son's mom. So shout out to Aaron for putting a quick stop to that dark rabbit trail with his smooth transition into the Hello Fresh ad. I quickly shifted my focus to what I was going to eat for dinner. Thanks again for another great podcast. I absolutely love listening every week. Keep up the great work!
Plain and simple and to the point I am a big fan of Nate but you guys have been killing it. The times you are by yourselves too. It’s been great regardless.
Good show Brian, Dusty and Aaron! Missed Nate, but you made sure we had a good time ❤ Lots of funny, interesting and personal stories. So fun to hear about your lives. Glad Nate is having a good time too. Love you all. ❤
I love that the guys shouted out Kathleen Madigan's special. Aaron opened for her a little bit ago and I was bummed I was not at that show. Kathleen also has a podcast, Madigan's Pubcast, and she talked about Aaron on it and his mini van :)
Hello folks! Speaking from experience coming from divorced parents. If you are fighting with your spouse constantly and have children, please, for the children's sake either get counseling or end it. The best thing my parents ever did for me was divorce. But that was after years of fights, and behavior I shouldn't have seen. Sorry to get so dark there, just needed to say that... HEY BEAR!
Can't believe no one mentioned the song "If" by Bread (if a picture paints a thousand words than why can't I paint you?) The spoken word version by Telly Savalas was entertaining as well. Also, thank you, Dusty, for thoughtfully mentioning all the single people on Valentine's Day. 🙂
I had a buddy when I was younger that was a terrible listener. I'll never forget the time when a mutual friend told him "you don't listen to people, you're just waiting for your turn to talk". That really stuck with me and helped provide perspective on being a better listener myself.
The icing on the cake for this episode would have been for Breakfast to replace Nate on the production outro message. Please have Brotato record that message for the next episode Nate misses!
Hey bear! So they recently changed the chairs at 1 of the 3 libraries I frequent, from "office chairs" (similar to the chairs you gentleman sit in), to these old creaky, wooden chairs, with no arm-rests.... I was politely asked to leave the library, during this episode, because when I laugh, I lean back & apparently it annoyed the lady sitting next to me. Good thing I have 2 other libraries, because I needed to finish this edition, & twas many more laughs to be had.
Dusty Dusty Dusty!!!!!! I'm sitting here watching the Valentine Day podcast and the question about who you'd want to have dinner with just was asked and right before you said Ronnie Van Zant I thought RONNIE VAN ZANT!!!!! great minds think alike. I've always been a big Skynyrd fan and hearing you say that made my day. Free Bird!!!! We're havin a good time. I very much enjoy Nateland. Thanks
Too many funny points to mention at once, but at the end I just pictured Breakfast walking to the studio, with headphones 🎧 on, listening to Eminem "you only get ONE shot" 😆
Aaron FTW with the Runza hat! You're now qualified to lead the "Nebraska" episode. & You guys already mentioned the Reuben sandwich, so I'll add more fuel to the Nebraska episode. Nebraska is also the original home of Kool-Aid! You can see the location where it was invented if you're ever driving through Hastings, NE.
My husband is from Mt Airy NC, which is Mayberry. Dusty should visit. They have the town set up with all the spots on TV Mayberry. They even have Barney riding around in his squad car. You can stay in Andy Griffith's childhood family home. It's an Airbnb now. They have a Mayberry festival every year and it's so much fun!
Having an episode about a holiday that one of the hosts does not believe in is par for the course for the Nateland gang - zero complaints here! As our anniversary is the week after Valentine's Day, as a family, we enjoy a home cooked meal and little gifts of love and appreciation of each other to celebrate Valentine's Day.
Dusty looks so disgusted that Aaron didn’t know the song, “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia.” Love the shoutout to Kathleen Madigan, she talks about Aaron and Dusty on her podcast sometimes. Saw her live a few weeks ago and she was the best.
When I was kid growing up I had absolutely NO idea about any of the popular music (I'm 35 now so I grew up in the 90's early 2000's). For the first six years of my life I lived in three different trailer parks in Montana. The very first song I can ever remember hearing when I was probably four years old was "Who do You Love" by George Thoroughgood. My dad would play George Throrughgood for my younger brother and me when he was watching us and my mom was gone. I grew up with the Marshall Tucker Band, Carole King, The Steve Miller Band, James Taylor, and Paul Overstreet. Your guys' references to all the different artists hit me with a good dose of nostalgia, and I absolutely loved getting to hear a more personal side from each one of you!!
Did Bartholomew just say you could put your loved ones in a heart shaped candy box?! Love listening to you guys on my walk to work every morning. Keep the laughs coming.
I stopped the podcast to listen to the Sullivan Ballou letter from the documentary. I was weeping listening to it to… then my husband pulled a “Dusty” and said he felt like the letter was fake and was just government propaganda to make people feel more patriotic and join the war effort.
Dusty’s comments on divorce really were disappointing to hear. Everything we say in our lives that are heard by people have the potential to influence another. This is especially true for famous people ( really anyone with a following on the internet). Everyone is entitled to believe what they want, but i would encourage you to consider the weight of your words. You may think no one listens or cares about one little thing you say, but our words can be more powerful than we realize sometimes. Much love for Dusty - just worthy of some brotherly encouragement i thought
Howdy folks! So I was in the grocery store listening to Nateland and I heard from a couple aisles over “ hello folks” to I replied “hey bear” no idea where it came from but it was a first. Hope all is well
Love song about a soldier's love: When the Roses Bloom Again (Wilco) - "I am dying, I am dying, and I know I have to go. But I want to tell you, before I pass away. There's a far and distant River, where the Roses are in Bloom - my sweetheart, who is waiting there for me. It is there I pray you take me, I've been faithful, don't forsake me. I'll be with her, when the Roses Bloom Again." - Gets me every time.
Great show on Batesland with Aaron from Aaronland and Dusty from Dustyville. Maybe that guy Nate Bargatze can join sometime, heard he host a pod of his own from time to time.
John Prine has two of my favorite lines that speak of love for another. One from earlier on in his career and another from his last album before he passed. “I’ve been brought down to zero, pulled out and put back together. Sat on the park bench, kissed the girl with the black hair and my head shouted down to my heart, “Better look out below.” “ I remember everything Things I can't forget The way you turned and smiled on me On the night that we first met And I remember every night Your ocean eyes of blue How I miss you in the morning light Like roses miss the dew.” I’ll take lyrics over melody any day of the week and among the innumerable losses from the pandemic, losing John Prime’s voice ranks near the top for me.
Dusty. I feel like we grew up in the same family separated by race (black), time (70s) and location (Texas). Me and my dad also watched a lot of Saturday westerns (Rawhide, Bonanza, Big Valley, High Chaparral etc). I too also suffer with singing v. hearing the breakdown of the word at church. I don't hate the worship I'm just not as into it as much as I am hearing the pastor. I do tap my foot and know many of the songs but I never sing. Plus I work in the AV booth putting content on the projector so not really the venue for singing.
I just finished the last episode and when they were talking about Kellie Pickler it made me think of this. So, Kellie Pickler is from Albemarle, NC, I am from Norwood, NC and the high schools in those towns are rivals. There is a sign in the middle of downtown Albemarle that says "Home of Kellie Pickler." What's kind of crazy is there is a guy I played against in high school who is from there whose name is Denico Autry. If that name sounds at all familiar to the guys, it's because he is a starting defensive lineman for the Tennessee Titans. He's played in the NFL for almost a decade, including stints with the Raiders and Colts. He started for 3 years at Mississippi State and he has hosted youth camps in the off-season for kids in the area. To this day, there is still no kind of sign or anything recognizing him in the town anywhere. Is it not crazy that this guy has been arguably more successful in his field and yet he gets no recognition? Anyways, since he's a Titan I thought y'all would find that interesting but there should definitely be a petition made to get Nico added to the sign!
It was funny to hear Dusty explain that a marriage is about staying committed to someone even when the feelings are not always there. About 10 minutes later he argues that you should just get divorced if you aren’t happy as long as there are no children involved. I always enjoy these guys taking a stand and then taking the opposite stand just for the sake of argument.
Why did I think "The Ewing Theory" was going to be something having to do with the T.V. show Dallas? Patrick Ewing never crossed my mind until Aaron explained it, then I felt dumb and smart the same time.
Dusty is correct in that the moon does spin. The moon makes one complete rotation during the same time it takes to orbit the earth. This is what tidally locked means. Other forms of tidally locked objects are high earth orbit satellites.
Highly recommend the guys and the folks check out "I'll pray for you" by Jaron and the long road to love. Oldie but goodie I know Aaron and Dusty will appreciate.
Dusty, Aaron, and Bag of Bugles.. you guys are hilarious! I’ve been laughing non-stop during this episode. Nate may have gotten lost in the woods (or wherever he’s gotten off to) but, I still give him 100% credit for how funny this podcast is. He selected the perfect guests that could carry the show even if he never makes it back from Pebble Beach.
Aaron- I hope to see it in a superbowl commercial one day 😂. Can’t agree with you more on the SB commercials. I miss the creativity and feel like there is no effort. We spent the commercial breaks explaining to our girls who the celebrities are in the commercials. They did enjoy watching the chaos that the Tubi commercial created. Can’t wait to see you in St Louis!
I miss Nate but BADland is quickly becoming my favorite podcast. ❤❤😂😂
I am HERE for it being called BADland. Love these guys.
I hated Dusty at first, but now I realize how genius he is.
Aaron: "Where are you walking shirtless to?"
Dusty: (without skipping a beat) "To Target".
I dont think i've laughed so hard before while watching this podcast. Gold, Dusty...GOLD!
Same here! Haha!!!
I actually said "Oh no" three times during that story! No shirt and gym shorts at Target 😂
I love Nate, but the DABcasts are my absolute favs! Also, Breakfast leaving up the family pic is the sweetest, so geriatric, and 100% on brand.
19:19 Breakfast saying "tell me more" at that exact moment was hilarious! I got the Grease reference
“When I was a kid, I put bugs in the microwave, and uh, it kills them fast.” Never stop being you, Dusty Slay 😂
I wonder if that's one of the reasons he doesn't like microwaves now. The puzzle pieces are falling into place LOL

I wasn’t too sure when Dusty was first introduced as the new 4th but quickly liked him. I’ve got to say he’s really been shining these last few weeks. I’m definitely having a good time.
Let's go folks, change the name to Bateland. Allow Nate to make guest appearances.
I know more about Dusty's opinions on various subjects than I do about the opinions of most of my friends and family. And that's why I love this podcast.
Bates in "Taken" : "I have a certain set of squirrels"
“Nobody is fighting at a party with garnishes” is the best thing I’ve heard from Aaron. He’s on his way to be the next Nate.
Dusty’s pragmatic statement about divorce confusing both Aaron and Brian is just wild
Brian is like the happiest kid in the world!
Nate is missed, but these episodes without him only make me want a BAD Lands Podcast! The chemistry between the three of them is absolutely unbelievable. I listen to the podcast at work and Im constantly LOLing. Thanks for the laugh boys.
Can’t tell you how much I appreciate Dusty! Our family views holidays the same way.
Us too!
Hey Nate, Aaron, Dusty, and Bartle Doo! This episode wins for transitions, especially Aaron's hard left from Dusty's serious thoughts on marriage to Hello Fresh ad read. Thanks for being one of the best parts of my work week. Keep up the great work!
I was bummed Nate was absent but the podcast didn’t suffer, great job guys.
Bates bumping the table, Weber thinks Christian Bale is the first Batman, and a shirtless Dusty. Heck of a first 10 minutes!
He said the first “good” Batman
“Reality shows bring out the worst in people” - this is why I’ve always wanted to create a reality show where the goal is to make as many friends as possible. Everyone could say “I came here to make friends”
I like that Dusty has deep knowledge of almost every holiday and conspiracy that may or may not be true, but doesn’t trust microwaves because he doesn’t know how they work, even though it’s pretty simple.
Love the POSITIVE energy of these 3 together! ❤
"Nobody's fighting at a party with garnishes" 😂
‘Upon witnessing a bullfrog f…ing a rock’ - phenomenal poem
Dusty's analysis of songs are amazing
Plain and simple and to the point I am a big fan of Nate but you guys have been killing it. The times you are by yourselves too. It’s been great regardless.
Good show Brian, Dusty and Aaron! Missed Nate, but you made sure we had a good time ❤ Lots of funny, interesting and personal stories. So fun to hear about your lives. Glad Nate is having a good time too. Love you all. ❤
You guys did great! It's a nice change of pace
BEST OPENING YET!! 🙌🏻💕
Here’s a thought, when Nate is away that Breakfast ,Gout, and the Breck girl always talk about music. You guys really brought it!-Suz
Brian talking about Valentine's Day when he was a kid at school - ADORABLE
dusty saying i cant sing, but continues to sing is gold! has me cracking up
I love that the guys shouted out Kathleen Madigan's special. Aaron opened for her a little bit ago and I was bummed I was not at that show. Kathleen also has a podcast, Madigan's Pubcast, and she talked about Aaron on it and his mini van :)

The best thing my parents ever did for me was divorce. But that was after years of fights, and behavior I shouldn't have seen. Sorry to get so dark there, just needed to say that... HEY BEAR!
Aaron is a pro at finding ways to transition from the current conservation to an advertisement.
Wooo *fanning self* Aaron reciting that poem!
I had a buddy when I was younger that was a terrible listener. I'll never forget the time when a mutual friend told him "you don't listen to people, you're just waiting for your turn to talk".
That really stuck with me and helped provide perspective on being a better listener myself.
Welcome back to the BADlands! This needs to be recurring. Great stuff. Maybe do The BADlands once a week as a patreon exclusive? Breakfast Tier?
Great show! Miss Nate, but good job guys! Love it Aaron, “Hash it out, then hug it out!”
Im just happy Dusty is here! 🥰🥰
The icing on the cake for this episode would have been for Breakfast to replace Nate on the production outro message. Please have Brotato record that message for the next episode Nate misses!

We need to revisit the RomCom thread when our fearless leader Nate returns. I'd love his take on the boys' conversation.
Too many funny points to mention at once, but at the end I just pictured Breakfast walking to the studio, with headphones 🎧 on, listening to Eminem "you only get ONE shot" 😆
😆 cracking me up today over the mature/data convo.
LOVED mr big song. One of the best of all time!!!!!! 1:23:24
Aaron FTW with the Runza hat! You're now qualified to lead the "Nebraska" episode. & You guys already mentioned the Reuben sandwich, so I'll add more fuel to the Nebraska episode. I was super impressed with Dusty's apparent knowledge of country music. I'd love to hear him on a country music pod cast
I want Aaron to only talk in his “Ooohhh gooollllly” voice from this point forward!! 1:42:06
I love Jennifer Connelly! Thank you for the few seconds talking about her.
Best episode yet
Nice to see Aaron wearing the Runza (Stormchasers) hat. Love the show last weekend and it was great meeting you Aaron!!
I love unbridled everyone is when Nate's away.
Dusty looks so disgusted that Aaron didn’t know the song, “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia.”
Love the shoutout to Kathleen Madigan, she talks about Aaron and Dusty on her podcast sometimes. Saw her live a few weeks ago and she was the best.
I love Dusty's active listening during church service ❤️
When I was kid growing up I had absolutely NO idea about any of the popular music (I'm 35 now so I grew up in the 90's early 2000's). I’d love to hear Aaron’s balloon theories he alludes to about 26 minutes into the episode. Sounds like he’s got some top secret intel worth sharing…
Dusty singing lyrics to Californication is peak dusty in my opinion.
Dusty walking shirtless into a Florida Target sounds like the beginning of a Kid Rock video.
Just when you think you know a podcast Aaron recites poetry! Well done! Do you guys have any other hidden talents?
Can't say I'm not loving these
Aaronland is Anti-Hollywood and I like it
Kathleen Madigan is by far my favorite female comedian. LOVE her Pubcast
Was at that Atlanta show, y'all both killed it.
Howdy folks! So I was in the grocery store listening to Nateland and I heard from a couple aisles over “ hello folks” to I replied “hey bear” no idea where it came from but it was a first. Hope all is well
A well tanned topless Dusty! Happy Valentine's Day ladies‽
Bateland 💯
If Dusty made a food podcast, I'd tell everyone and be completely on board
Love song about a soldier's love: When the Roses Bloom Again (Wilco) - "I am dying, I am dying, and I know I have to go. But I want to tell you, before I pass away. There's a far and distant River, where the Roses are in Bloom - my sweetheart, who is waiting there for me. It is there I pray you take me, I've been faithful, don't forsake me. I'll be with her, when the Roses Bloom Again." - Gets me every time.
A love song list of sad and beautiful music should include Jeff Buckleys version of Hallelujah.
The “Ewing Effect” is surely happening here. So good!
Sat on the park bench, kissed the girl with the black hair and my head shouted down to my heart, “Better look out below.”
“ I remember everything
Things I can't forget
The way you turned and smiled on me
On the night that we first met
And I remember every night
Your ocean eyes of blue
How I miss you in the morning light
Like roses miss the dew.”
I’ll take lyrics over melody any day of the week and among the innumerable losses from the pandemic, losing John Prime’s voice ranks near the top for me.
How can they not know Mr. Big? That was a great song. I think the lead singer's dad owned MTV at the time.
Why did I think "The Ewing Theory" was going to be something having to do with the T.V. show Dallas? Patrick Ewing never crossed my mind until Aaron explained it, then I felt dumb and smart the same time.
Brian is so right about reality shows, the people on those shows are the worst humanity has to offer!
Dusty is correct in that the moon does spin. The moon makes one complete rotation during the same time it takes to orbit the earth. This is what tidally locked means. Other forms of tidally locked objects are high earth orbit satellites.
Brian’s comment of “Tell me more” when talking about John Travolta was missed by the guys, but not by me.
Well done, Beanbag, well done.
Aaron’s rant about celebrities on Super Bowl commercials sounded eerily similar to Nate’s rant about the exact same thing in episode 87.
No, I like Dusty leading!
Look... I LOVE Nate Bargatze.
But this podcast Does Not Need Him.
😂 Killing it boys, thanks for the entertainment!
I'm just bummed that Nate wasn't there to make fun of Aaron and his civil war letter.
