@@MJapan0 yes they are very similar but the batman mask is really cringe tbh from a grown adult XD like the youngsters full of tatoos and piercings in Tokyo
Japan was AMAZING during the 80's. I was a military brat and my father was stationed there 84-88. This was my childhood and I loved every minute of my time in Japan during this time. While I don't particularly remember most of these city pop songs but the sound does make me nostalgic for my childhood and my time growing up in Japan during the 80's.
I grew up in the OC in the 80s. It was amazing! The 80s were 100X better than today, IMO. The movies, the music, the optimism. I can't think of a single thing that was worse in the 80s than now.
Yep, Japan in the '80s was awesome! There was no internet, social media, or "smart phones." Young people actually talked to each other😲dated😲got married😲had kids😲still enjoy the music of their youth😎while their kids envy how awesome the '80s were😅. It's NOT OVER unless you give up.
It’s pretty much the same almost everywhere you go around the world. Many young people of the current generations actually prefer to listen to 80s music instead of modern day music, and they praise it.
I remember exactly where I was in January, 1990 and looking at the Nikkei go from 32,000 to like 20-something K. I was stationed at the Norfolk Naval Base in Virginia and lived in Virginia Beach.
Remember their were still a lot of veterans of the late war active and working back in 1980 in Japan, America, and Germany. The younger generations did not quite seem able to hold things together. Masaru Ibuka of Sony was born in 1908.
Well, good topic... Arrived in Japan 1990 as tech worker at government lab. It was peak 'The Japan that can say no'. I was a kid just out of school who loved 1970's anime (fell out of love with in in the '80's due to creative collapse) - experienced bubble Japan in my spare time. Living in Tsukuba, in hindsight, a bubble supercharged center where bumpkin nobodies became somebodies in the forced creation of the district, credentialed 'elite' puppy as I was, happenstanced from MITI Kanemaru cronies to post-war ruffian Ibaraki 'lords' surfing that transformative time mostly oblivious. Your music snippets recall my off-hour sojourns as one or another entreating entity would invite me into their after-hours forays. As much as has changed since then, so much remains - future is secure.
2:30 "envy the 80s to" I think many are looking at the 80s with rose tinted glasses, it's quite easy to fall into the trap of only remembering the good things about a time and not remember the bad things. Even funnier is people having nostalgia for that, you can't have nostalgia for a time before you even existed 😅 8:53 "Are we pushing America too much ?" Idk if they even asked themselves that, seems like they continued to just play "poke the bear". Didn't take that long for them to go to the latter part of "eff around and find out". 😅 10:30 "Listen to ,music on twitch" That might work, think it stood in their ToS you are not allowed to listen to any music you don't have the rights to. Normally that just means they mute sections of the VOD, idk how often they actually scan livestreams themselves, it can happen but not sure how often it happens.
Atarashii Gakko, Maximum the Hormone, Hanabie, Ado, Imperial Circus Dead Decadence, and many more, all my favorite artists are from Japan. I mean, I still haven't washed the hand that touched Yukina when she went crowd surfing during the concert in Poland, and I do not intend to!
During the miracle times, the Japanese government introduced all kinds of taxes and levies that slowly but surely chipped away at the economy. Until this day not a single one of them has been taken away. In fact taxes and levies have only gone up in cost. So that now when the Japanese economy is on its deathbed business and people are only paying more for the government to take and redistribute to a select and privileged few. Japan needs a tax revolution.
It's so interesting and odd that ths VAST MAJORITY of Japanese people today, including the older generations, have no idea what City Pop is or how popular it is overseas.
Most Japanese people are obssed with themselves and their own egotistical world view. People alive and around them today, are irrelevant to them. What makes you think, People or ideas from the past has any meaning to them whatever. They only reason why they even care about the elderly is because those elderly people get pension checks that are higher than most peoples salaries these days.
I see Japan as an outsider and as an America as going through cycles of rapid redevelopment due to outside pressures that force change then at which point they get ahead of the curve for a while before falling into stagnation and "traditionalizing" ways of doing things because they worked in the past. In the past you had the Meiji transformation and the reopening up of Japan and later after the war you had another set of reforms by the MacArthur Administration that revamped the Japanese constitution and the Global trade order helping it to grow and change for the better but now it is stagnating again....What will that change be?
Thank you so much for watching guys🥰 City Pop is awesome!!
Japan will live forever. Happy New Year MrJapan. Keep making your videos forever.
Mr Japan did AskJapan make a new channel? this "Japan News @JapanNews-e9y" popped up in my feed and it seems similar
Thank you🙏
I think he had that channel before too, but now he is uploading the old style content on that channel👍

Japan was cool......
Even in the US. The 80's pop music was legendary.
Not Just the US. Perhaps UK and Sweden. It was the peak of the Western softpower.
US media lost the path and I don't wanna hear the music.

I think smartphones ruined many people. Steve Jobs shouldn't be praised but cursed as a culture destroyer.

That's crazy @_@ Happy New Year!
Happy New Year🥰
Japan was still a wealthy country until the 80's but it all came tumbling down with the stock market crash of 1989. I am old to witness all that.
It all came tumbling down with unaffordable taxes and levies. The government will blame anything or anyone but themselves.

Every time you say maybe I can’t help but think the exact opposite of the previous statement. I love life. Idk maybe
I might say Maybe too much... maybe🤔
@@MJapan0 🙃
Mr. Japan, maybe you were born in the wrong decade...you were meant to be an 80's Japanese salaryman listening to City Pop ❤ 😂
I always felt that way...
11:45 Isn't it just old people that watch tv anymore? I think most of the ppl watch it online or is it different in Japan?
Their change pace is kind a slow.
Yes only really old people watch TV in Japan too

Music of the 60s, 70s, 80s and some off the 90s was Great!
