    Outrageously helpful! Thank you.
    I'm one of those musicians who occasionally wears the production engineer hat. I'll be honest - For years I've used speakon connectors for my small PA system and always wondered about the "Bigger speakon connectors" that I saw. I was simply afraid to ask...

    The best type of connectors for live shows. It's secure and provides many possibilities of connection.

    Kyle, I learn something new every time I watch one of your videos and I've got YEARS of experience. Thanks for taking the time to explain the things that I needed to know, even though I wasn't consciously aware that I needed to know them. Keep 'em coming and I'll keep learning.

    Very helpful and straght forward. Nonetheless, I can't find devices with NL8 connectors. Is this connector rather custom-installations oriented?

      @charlotteice5704 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know that it can be found on some 4 channel amps such as the d&b D80. I've also seen someone make custom socket plates for their 1HU 4chan Powersoft T904s with an NL8 connector (I think you wouldn't be able to fit an NL8 connector in the height of 1 HU).

    So I just bought myself an mesa boogie powerstack 4x10 1x15 combo bass cab. Would I need a NL8 and a NL2 cable to power all 5 speakers?

  • @YourHaloCreations
    @YourHaloCreations ปีที่แล้ว

    @2:30 so there would be no actual connection/circuit with an NL2 because of the design. You would need NL4 to complete the circuit, right?

    I just acquired two Behringer eurolive B1520. 800 watt speakers for free that I was planning on turning into home audio speakers... do they sell wires that go from speakon to regular stereo plugs??

    Can I connect a red and black basic speaker wire directly into a NL2 speakon connector? I have an amplifier Berhinger with speakon "in" connector but my ceiling speakers use basic red and black speaker cables

    • @ambrosesonofthehood7486

      Yes. Speakon is just the pattent for the clip-in stlye connection, rather than a jack that can be pulled out accidentally.

    • @AudioUniversity
      @AudioUniversity  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you have an amplifier between the mixer and the speaker? XLR is a mic/line level connector and SpeakON is a speaker level connector. So, a simple adapter doesn’t have a purpose (that I’m aware of). Check out this video: th-cam.com/video/gzbiOeqbERE/w-d-xo.html

    is there any smaller alternative connector type you recommend to speakon?? waterproof too..

    • @AudioUniversity
      @AudioUniversity  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      SpeakON is the most compact and weather-resistant design I've used. They are used at outdoor concerts frequently and are designed to withstand moisture.

    • @user0000user
      @user0000user 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The second set of nl4 stays unused. Professional speakers have a circuit diagram on their inputs how it's internal connected

    can i connect a speakon to xlr jack and how

    • @AudioUniversity
      @AudioUniversity  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While it could be technically possible to create an adapter like that, you should not. The reason is that SpeakON connectors are for speaker level signals and XLR connectors are for line level signals.
      Check out this video to learn the difference: th-cam.com/video/gzbiOeqbERE/w-d-xo.html

      No they do not.

    • @totalplonker824
      @totalplonker824 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! So I suspect it's all good running my speakon cable next to my shielded speaker cables?
      What about running the speakon cable (Rels high-level Neutrik) next to power cables, I suspect thats a whole new different matter or do you think I'm good to go... running the power cable alongside the speakon cable as well?

    • @AudioUniversity
      @AudioUniversity  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A speaker cable run behaves like a balanced line. Both conductors have equal impedance and any noise induced upon the cable will cancel in the load (speaker coil). Check out this video to learn more about this principle: th-cam.com/video/rgfZb1pEIrU/w-d-xo.html
