I have both series. My first was two volumes on The Gospel of John by Ric Philips, love his commentary, put my feet pointing in the right direction. Love Ric Philips material in particular.
He is very clear and punctuation well defined for clarity. The closest contestant would be Matthew Henry. I’m sure the other contributors are great too. Solid, clear and very pastoral.

I have used the 2 Volume Luke commentary by Philip Ryken in the Reformed Expository Commentary Series. I used it for preparing to teach an adult Sunday School class, as well as a small -group Bible study. It is excellent.

Thank you for the comment. I would have guessed it would be perfect for those settings, and you have confirmed that. May the Lord bless your Bible studies.

I have used both series in sermon preparation and they are equally helpful. Rick Phillips on Hebrews, Iain Duguid on Song of Songs, Ruth and Esther, and Daniel and Ryken on Galatians in the REC series are all superb. Ryken on Exodus, Ray Ortlund on Isaiah, and John Woodhouse on the historical books in the PTW series are also excellent. Christopher Ash has also written possibly the best all round commentary available on Job in the PTW series. Both series are wonderful.

Excellent comment. Thank you so much for those insights. It's great to read your thoughts about Christopher Ash because I don't have that particular volume. Ash is an author that people should pay more attention to. I understand his new Psalms volume in the For You series is getting is high praise, but I don't have that one yet either!

@@BestBibleCommentaries I have been recently using Ash's Psalms For You and it is extremely insightful, especially on the Christocentric nature of the psalms and on how to apply them. However, much to my disappointment he doesn't cover all the psalms. Thanks for your videos, they are so helpful!

@@hayleymcilroy7867 I didn't realize that the Psalms volume was incomplete. Thank you for sharing that. However, I recall being somewhat surprised when I first opened a For You volume that there wasn't as much content as I anticipated. I think people would even being willing to pay for certain volumes, like Keller's, if it they had more content.

@@BestBibleCommentaries I Couldn't agree more. That being said, I have found the Tim Chester volumes on Exodus and Revelation to be invaluable, even with the space he was allotted. He is one of those authors who can say a lot (and say it really well) with a few words.

Tim Chester was kind enough to do a Q&A with me on that Revelation volume a few years ago. In it, he said one of the most interesting things I have ever heard about applying Revelation to today. Chester said understanding Revelation helped him with church planting! What a wonderful and fascinating thing to say. Here is the Q&A if interested: www.bestbiblecommentaries.com/tim-chester-revelation-commentary/

Thanks for the video, because I've been looking for a list of the best expositional series. Do you have videos about other series like these or a list?

    • @BestBibleCommentaries

Hi Luis, actually, that is a good idea -- to make a page about expositional commentaries. I will put that on my to-do list. Besides the two series in this video, some others that come to mind are written by pastors like R.C. Sproul and John MacArthur.

I think that both of them are pretty good at explaining things. Was comparing the two using 2 Tim 3. Each had good points the Reformed Expository actually pointed out that the use of the alpha at the begining of some of the words was used the same way as un- is used in English. Not knowning much about Greek found that very interesting. But good explainations of each item th false Teachers were said to be. Also the Reformed emphasised Gossip, Slander, and groundless accusations BOth give you plenty to think about and I think would be good resources to own.

God's grace is irresistible, and because not all are saved, that means not all are chosen. John 6 says the Father gives many to the Son and will not be led astray. This means that Christ died only for the elect.
