    Hopefully this production does not have any problems. Really enjoying the English translations.

    I saw the world premiere in Vienna and I have to say... Kara Lanes face expressions remind me of Susan Rigvava-Dumas, who played the original Mrs. Danvers in Vienna.
    Love and good luck!

    Uh oh... this is going to be all I can think about until the end of the run. I've already gone and replayed it three times. So strange, finally hearing it in English! Hopefully there will be a cast recording with the orchestra for those of us too far from London...

    Kara Lane: The best Rebecca ever🎉Her interpretation as Mrs. Danver is stunning: She shows Mrs Danvers not as a simple devil person but as a devoted servant and deep in love to her lady. Kara Lane follows the emotional path from obsessive mourning and protecting the rememberace to the deep disappointing after recognizing that she was used like everybody from Rebecca. This recognition drives Mrs Denver to insanity. A brilliant performance as an actress and as a singer. Thank you Karen for an outstanding performance in London👏👏👏💖

    Saw this production (TWICE!) last week in London - an incredibly talented cast, beautiful score, intelligent script, and perfect special effects. I encourage anyone who is able to see it to do so at once! Quality, first-rate, original theater like "Rebecca" is increasingly rare.

    Beautiful translation but I'm confused by the title. Why is the title different when the line is translated practically 1 to 1
    Mrs. de Winter bin ich = Mrs. de Winter is me

    ok - these two incredible voices and this powerful song have convinced me that Rebecca can be a musical - it’s one of my favourite novels (am a young senior and read Rebecca in college “years” ago) and as much as I love it - couldn’t imagine singing about such a dark intense story (substitute Jane Eyre or Withering Heights) - but this song has the new Mrs DeWinter putting the housekeeper in her place in such a way that I want to stand up and applaud “I” 🤗 wishing this production so much success 🇨🇦🙏

    Beautiful. I love the positive strength of "I" and the soft fine vulnerability of Mrs. Danvers. This is a great progression in comparison to the Austrian/German original, where we have a more hurt and defiant "I" and a furious icecold draconian Mrs. Danvers.

      Interestingly, the current Mrs. Danvers in Vienna, Annemieke van Dam, is also a very frail and vulnerable Mrs. Danvers. When "I" dropped Rebecca's cupid I swear she literally fell into pieces! I also love this dynamic so so much.

      Willemijn Verkaik was pretty evil und icecold throughout almost the whole show but a few times when it got too much she couldn‘t hide the pain. And after finding out the truth in rebecca 4 she really fell apart. She broke my heart in this moment. I had never felt that kind of sympathy for the „villian“. Best performance of a musical performer I have ever seen in any show. 4 months ago and still speachless.

    • @Kessra
      @Kessra ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lollollol5959 To me Mrs. Denvers was never evil in first place. She was stiff and as a servent should be loyal to their masters, at least how most people think of typical British servents. Even after years she followed the requests of her former mastres word by word. Deeply within her she still hoped the old Mrs. de Winter is still somewhere alive. The role of Mr. de Winter though is a bit more ... twisted. The musical, like the book this play is based on, leaves it open whether he did murder his wife, whether she went missing because of an accident or performed some suicide. We don't know and it is more or less in the eyes of the beholder what actually happened and who is to blame here.

    Oooh, this is fun! I played Mrs Denver for a concert once, and it was fun. For the actual night, "I" had bought a cheap little figurine and she actually smashed it on stage. We were all surprised the pieces went everywhere but it was great for the performance.

    I don't mind the new English lyrics, but I do hope this loosens up a little bit during the run. I feel as though this would benefit from being sung a little more freely (I find it sounds kind of plodding compared to the German).

  • @ValtronW
    @ValtronW ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I can't decide if this is a clunky translation or if it just sounds better in German. "Mrs. De Winter is me" sounds like bad English.

    Mrs Danvers sounds way too submissive to me.

    • @PhoenixJohnson29
      @PhoenixJohnson29 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      To be fair, this is the song where she loses a lot of that power of intimidation she had over the second Mrs. de Winter. So it’s a very valid character choice.

    • @duketgg
      @duketgg ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PhoenixJohnson29- the fact that "I" doesn't fear her so much anymore is due to the fact that she has gained self-confidence, though, not to the fact that Mrs Danvers actually is less intimidating.

    • @jurgenmuck3102
      @jurgenmuck3102 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I don't see any submissiveness of Mrs. Danvers, but a glimpse of astonishment and uncertainty cause "I" dares to rebel. Very plausible and valid, and gives more profundity to the character of Mrs. Denvers. And of course the power of intimidation fades, if the other gaines more self-confidence. This ist why Mrs. Danvers will be meaner and more malicious in the further course of the story to compensate this.

    • @Erzlump
      @Erzlump ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Personally I find that since Susan Rigvava-Dumas most Mrs Danvers have been way too outwardly aggressive, some outright animalistic. I do prefer a Mrs Danvers that relies on intrigue and quiet authority - she is only a servant in the house after all and she always seemed aware of that in the original material. She kind of is forced to keep her true feelings hidden somewhat or risks being fired.
