Few things, - Paperback veneer is definitely not the best option for this, - Alternating the pieces at a shallower angle and 90 degrees is likely a better idea - You CAN run a sawstop without the brake cartridge, you just need to use the bypass - You should probably have MUCH more clamping force on the mold than you have been using - I think the wood blade might benefit from a more aggressive, lower TPI pattern with more support for each tooth
Also, worth trying a harder wood than mahogany. Mahogany is popular, in part, because it isn't TOO hard, and is thus easy to work with, while still being hard enough for most furniture.
As a general rule, materials of the same hardness can cut each other under as long as they are sharpened enough and not so brittle to break under the required stresses to begin to cut the other material.
I don’t think sharpness matters here the teeth are destroyed first pass. It’s the carbonization that makes it stronger so just use a flat blade with a harder wood than what you’re cutting. The friction is doing all the work here
I would really like to see this done again but with two differences: 1. Mix the abrasive into some resin before putting it on the wood. 2. Put the abrasive resin mixture only where the blades would be so you can go thicker using less abrasive. 3. File the teeth so that they are actually sharp.
I worked in a sawmill, 4 years as a saw filer. Round saws. Angle of grind, Kerf, the thickness of teeth. And .. feed and speed...very important. Heat will warp a saw blade. ❤ Kerf, carbide teeth, or dipped in epoxy and abrasives a few Times will build up. The Kerf...don't feed to fast....😊 the abrasive is only on the sides of the tool... no cut for teeth..not Necessary...🇺🇲✌👍
I like how the video unintentionally shows why carbon fiber (or really any) composites are so great. You can have a relatively weak fiber and a relatively weak matrix, but combine the two, and you have something with some incredibly strong mechanical properties. I’m assuming you are using epoxy resin, making this an epoxy-cellulose 0/90 laminate composite. I would recommend PFKK as a resin as it is generally better than epoxy but… well… it’s extremely hard to source and work with if you aren’t a professional within the composites industry.
I just started at Alcom, a hauling trailer company, and I recently learned that the saw bolt has to tighten by screwing to the left because if it was a regular "rightytighty leftyloosey" the blade would come flyin off the saw! The blade must be tightened opposite of the direction the blade spins.
I think your style is funny and enjoyable. Stay true to your character and be unique. Don't change for anyone 💪🏻😎🤙🏻 That's why you have almost a million subs!
Im somewhat surprised that first blade didn't cause a fire because to make a friction fire, you only need like a fraction of that rubbing speed (I assume).
it did, it caused lots of embers, which is all you get out of friction fire. if you'd covered those with dead grass, or even better, cotton, that'd start a fire
this is single handedly made my day better! the first blade was the best. cut out of scissors. the level of care taken to enforce stupidity is brilliant.
Wood definitely like to see you try this again, except with mixing the abrasive into the resin before coating the wood. Wood also be interesting to see a comparison between the silicon carbine and the garnet used in the waterjet.
The irony really, sawblades have tungsten carbide tips and are sharpened with synthetic diamond as that’s hard enough. There is a rare exception some people have tried diamond tipped bandsaws but the cost is nowhere near worth it
What if you were water-cooling the wood blade? Lots of metal-cutting machines already include a spout that shoots milky water (water with lubricant) onto the cutting area, maybe you can fit the wood blade to one of those machines and see if it lets you cut much faster. I don't think the wood would get particularly wet because at the speed you're going the water will basically turn to steam at the cutting surfsce.
Hey, just a tip, you only needed that abrasive on the cutting part of the blade, for example, if you look at a tile cutting blade, with "diamonds" on it, it's basically got maybe 5, round blades, that simply have the abrasive on them.
I don't know if this would help, but when making fiber composites we do a layering direction of 0, 45, 90, -45, 0 which is called a quasiisotropic laminat. If you decide to try this again you could maybe layer the wood differently to make it mor balanaced. Not sure how much it would increase strength tho.
i've learned a lot of things from your channel, and videos such as these, and one of those things are that anything can cut through a lot of different materials if it can spin fast enough
You should try this with verawood. It's several times harder and more dense than mahogany. It'd be interesting to see if the hardness factor also makes it too brittle to use as a cutting blade. I'd also suggest quebracho, but it's really expensive and I doubt you could find enough that you'd want to waste it on something like this.
What if you were able to coat the edges/ teeth of the saw blade so its not just the sides that have the mineral. Maybe it will give the teeth enough strength to actually survive against cutting.
This had me in stiches laughing at the bit where sparks were flying out the motor reminded me of photonicinduction especially the comment about torcturing the motor
The fact that it actually _cuts_ is impressive on its own, no other torture tests needed and addons needed. But if you want this saw to be actually efficient, just mahogany and resin ain't gonna *CUT IT.* I know I am very funny.

@Waterjet Channel you can turn off the sawstop safety by turning the key (Right side of the control box) for a few seconds until the LEDs start flashing, then start the saw while still holding the key. I run one for work and need to do that occasionally to cut wet wood or metal veneer plywood.
