Hello Mark, Nice to see you are doing well. The pandemic has been hitting everywhere pretty hard. I have been very busy at work (maybe you remember I am a nurse), even today, as we have nearly no Covid in my region, lots of overtime b/c so many nurses have been taken out for health reasons. Everytime you talk review a tobacco, I want to try it LOL... even though, I am prety sure this one won't be one I would like (as hard I try, still cannot like Virginia base blends). Traditions... very interesting topic. Lots of good, but we can find lots of bad one. Always depends on the situation. Tradition... For some Italian families it's called Vendetta. In my family there was a 150yr. Vendetta against another family that went back to the old country Italy. One day a few of us from both families had a sitdown. Just to see where this all began and how our generation could stop this waste of energy. Come to find out. It all started over one family member stealing another chicken. To be sure we all were greatly appalled to hear this. I siad seriously with a bit of humor, I'd gladly give you a chicken and goat to end this ridiculous vendetta. My counter part also having a warped sense of humor said. "Done, but you can keep your animals. Just marry my sister." Note; He didn't have a sister. All being said and done. It's been 20+ years of peace. Point being, find out what the root causes of any issues may surprise you of the simplicity that snowballs out of control. I love your videos. Keep up your great work. Ciao

Imo, Kohlhase really shines with Scottish blends. All Rattray's scottish blends are great and John Aylesburys Scottish Blend is mild but still really nice. They bite but I'll take the occasional bite with a great tobacco over no bite with a flavorless tobacco.
A few years before that event, the European nations had somehow stumbled into WW1 the same way as these two noblemen had stumbled into their duel. The British King, the German Emperor, and the Russian Czar were cousins; in the weeks and days that led up to the war, they desperately corresponded, familiarly adressing each other by the names of "Georgie", "Willy", "Nicky", yet they couldn't prevent the bloodshed that was to follow even though none of them was actually keen on going to war. However, the traditional rules of nationalism, power politics, and militarism that were in full sway back then left them no way out. On a much larger scale this was the same as the traditional rules of honor that bound the two noblemen to sort things out by finally having a duel. And in both cases tragedy struck.

I have told my Cousins in Zwickau about the channel, and hopefully this year if the flight ban is lifted, I can have them bring some tobacco I canöt get in my small Colorado town. I, recall, my father from Vienna, telling me stories of his youth group cleaning up the woods around Vienna and sleeping overnight in the various huts . Going back to the needless bloodshed over a false understanding of tradition we “ perhaps” should consider what effects the duel had on the Baron and Baroness,s children. Imo, Kohlhase really shines with Scottish blends. All Rattray's scottish blends are great and John Aylesburys Scottish Blend is mild but still really nice. They bite but I'll take the occasional bite with a great tobacco over no bite with a flavorless tobacco.
A few years before that event, the European nations had somehow stumbled into WW1 the same way as these two noblemen had stumbled into their duel. The British King, the German Emperor, and the Russian Czar were cousins; in the weeks and days that led up to the war, they desperately corresponded, familiarly adressing each other by the names of "Georgie", "Willy", "Nicky", yet they couldn't prevent the bloodshed that was to follow even though none of them was actually keen on going to war. However, the traditional rules of nationalism, power politics, and militarism that were in full sway back then left them no way out. On a much larger scale this was the same as the traditional rules of honor that bound the two noblemen to sort things out by finally having a duel. And in both cases tragedy struck.

Thanks Mark for another fantastic episode. Being a big history buff, and family still Covid locked down in Germany, I can‘t wait for your reviews and historical perspectives each month. I have told my Cousins in Zwickau about the channel, and hopefully this year if the flight ban is lifted, I can have them bring some tobacco I canöt get in my small Colorado town. Makes me think of “ Les Fables de la Fontaine “ or perhaps ( as you so likeably use that word often :-) the German equivalent the brothers Grimm? The forest is steeped in German culture . I, recall, my father from Vienna, telling me stories of his youth group cleaning up the woods around Vienna and sleeping overnight in the various huts . Going back to the needless bloodshed over a false understanding of tradition we “ perhaps” should consider what effects the duel had on the Baron and Baroness,s children. I sat back today with a pipe from 1950 ( my birth date ) and some Old Gowrie and listened to your story of the duel, tragic but very real. That was a fascinating story and a good food for thought. I think the point is still relevant in the modern days.
I bought that baccy because of that tin. Tin is really beautiful. Tobacco itself is ok, not great, but enjoyable.

The pistol is a replica of the russian "Ivan Polin" gun from the beginning of the 19th century...
The pipe was an Ali Birinci with a custom built stem...but unfortunately, you won't see that in any more videos...it was stolen three weeks ago in the smokers Lounge of the Hotel Atlantic in Bremen...along with my carrier bag... :-(

Some tradition is harmful (as you alluded) and some can be beneficial, but have to be careful.
