Since eye color is determined by chemical and structural differences in the eye, it seems logical that different eye colors see the world in different ways.

SciShow since we are on this topic, can we talk about AMD and how to prevent it? Like on Windows 10, or smartphone application (LG v30 comfort view) blue filter setting maybe or may not be helpful (is it really helpful)? Everyone everywhere only speak of electronic devices affecting the circadian rhythm, but not much about AMD. Are all us post baby boomers going blind ~20, 30 years from now? 😱
BTW, can prescription glasses (near/farsightedness) block uv to help slow cornea degeneration?

I have brown eyes, I have absolutely no issue distinguishing colors, even did some online test for that and I got a perfect score for separating colors.
I'm a night owl so I'm actually more used to dim light.
For this one it sounds like there's a lot more to it in a person to person basis which is not related to eye color.

    • @sebaschan-uwu

    • @bloodbond3

Same here. Honestly, I can't help but wonder if the reflex test isn't perhaps correlated to the races typically associated with those eye colors. Minority races-such as Asian, Hispanic, Middle-Eastern, and Black-may be more likely to experience environments growing up that would make faster reflexes more of a necessity. Whether it be parenting styles or socio-economic status, it's also a plausible variable, y'know?

Barring the odd bout of conjunctivitis, I have never had medical problems with them. My light-hazel-eyed daughter didn't need glasses till she was last 25. She doesn't need them often (and she spends most of each day outside). Go figure!

True, but that doesn't exactly contradict his point, if anything it adds to it.

I have brown eyes and I've been wearing glasses since childhood. And no you won't look like a hipster because there's different frames and sometimes the frame you want may not be for your face lol. But we blind folks do get a bit uptight when people only want to wear glasses just because, because we wish we didn't need to rely on some glass attached to a wire around our face to see 😭

You are effectively blind until you can find them again. You have to become daredevil to do ordinary things without them. I'd kill to not need glasses to see so count your blessings.

It’s like taking a video on your phone but the flash is on and is directly inside your eye sockets 🥲💔 I’ll have to stare at my feet because it’s not like i can look up either, the sun is there waitin’ to blind me too 🗿

I have blue eyes. My sight isn't as good as it used to be but still a hell of a lot better than most people. I concur on the whole overwhelmingly bright days when the sun is out, but I have excellent night vision, no problems seeing by star light alone out in the sticks where I live.

Having more melanin in darker eye colors does have an advantage it act like wearing sunglasses so it blocks out more light. So there is less strain on the eyes on a sunny day or being in a brightly lit room or driving down the road with bright headlights shinning in your eyes.
But having less melanin in your eyes having lighter eye colors also has an advantage. Even though bright lights can cause strain upon their eyes on the other hand they can see way better in low light conditions even in almost complete darkness being that they are not wearing sunglasses so to speak.

The only reason our eye color is brown is because we have more melinin, idk if I spelled that right, but it's little tiny cells that make up your eye color, and hair color, that's why when you get older your hair stats turning white, and your eyes turn gray, the cells start disappearing, and yeah..

My eyes are slightly different colors. Both are brown but one is slightly darker and the other is slightly lighter. You have to look closely to see it, but it’s there... and each of my eyes see color slightly differently. My brighter eyes see color more bright and vibrant, while my darker eye sees color slightly more muted. Again, a slight difference, but if I cover one eye, then cover the other, I can see the difference. So I know, 100%, that different color eyes see colors differently. Studies can’t show this because we can’t describe the difference in what we see, but there is in fact a difference.

I have brown eyes and have always had amazing vision. 11/10 on both eyes when i was 7 (school checked us with some fancy ass machines) I also use my computer/phone a lot. When i was 12 i had 10/10 on both eyes and now im 16 and have 11/10 on my left eye and 10/10 on my right one. Guess all that videogame playing isnt as bad on my eyes afterall. (i also eat a LOT of blueberries, idk i have heard they help with vision) In my class about 70% of kids have blue eyes and around 30% need some kind of glasses, but most dont use them. And there is only one person with brown eyes that has glasses and shes a girl.

My guess before watching the episode: lighter coloured eyes, being more sensitive to light than darker ones, don't have poorer eyesight, but rather a harder time seeing (if that makes sense) imagine having 20/20 vision but the sun blaring in your face. We'll see these people squinting more and that gives us the illusion that they have poor eyesight when they are actually just in a state of discomfort.

    • @SouthernRebels94
      @SouthernRebels94 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

I agree as I have blue eyes and have 20/20 vision but I still squint when it's very bright out side that I end up using my hair to block out the sun but I also have perfect night vision being able to see while it's basically pitch black outside or inside.

I have brown eyes and have glasses. In my opinion, the color of your eyes doesn’t matter. It depends on the contraction of your pupils. Some have perfect vision while others don’t and need glasses. This goes for any eye color. Anyway, this video is very interesting.

  • @Scereyaha

Dark pigment would absorb more light away from the pupil, so from a purely physical standpoint, it would seem reasonable that people with brown/dark eyes can adjust to changes in light with less discomfort than people with light eyes, but then, our pupils also like dilate and stuff so... the difference would be limited to the span of time it takes your pupil to contract... so I imagine the differences would mostly be very minuscule and mostly break down to light sensitivity and the consequences of light exposure over time, either increasing or decreasing sensitivity, or sensitivity to different stimulus, which would seem consistent with what we see of eye health, and what's been said here.
As a person with light eyes I can tell you that I am personally very light sensitive, have good night vision, and at least perfect colour vision, but I highly doubt that can be said for even _most_ people with lighter eyes. .. except the light sensitivity bit. But I also have an autoimmune condition and am neuro-divergent. I am also still looking for a way to reliably test if I am actually a tetrachromat.
In any event, I was mostly commenting to point out that the differences would be very minimal and mostly or completely due to purely Physics more than "biology" directly, because , outside of sci show, I see far too many videos on youtube linking "eye colour" genetics to a whole bunch of neurological differences between people in a way that is not so subtly racist, and I 100% believe this video will pop up on the side bar for people trolling for those videos about eye colour and "personality/neurology/intelligence", and looking for legitimate looking videos that they can use to reinforce those ideas.... So I'm sticking this here.

      "blue/grey/green hazel eyes"
Do you mean that kind of weird color that's not any specific color in particular but everyone else interprets it as a different color? Because I have to deal with that too. Also hazel eyes are only hazel if they have brown in it, without the brown they're not hazel. It sucks not having a definitive color, but it does mean that any color contact (even fantasy colors) will blend in perfectly.
I also have light sensitivity to the point of my eyes being in pain when it's really bright out, but I figured that was due to staying inside. I much prefer being out at night because it's easier to see, are you the same?

The thing is, there is more than one effect from a cause, epigenetically. You can call a color "blue" and lump it together with other colors you call blue, but there are multiple roads to that generalization, and multiple effects from each road. As a very general category, brown/dark eyes react quicker to changes in light level, but blue/light eyes react more completely.
One somewhat rare blue-gold combination (probably originating in Finland, but I haven't seen it traced genetically) seems to have a higher rod-to-cone ratio, so the people who have it practically ignore or don't care about colors, but they see in the dark almost like you'd expect of cats. This seems to be a polygenetic epigenetic effect reinforced intermittently by the arctic environment, so it doesn't run true in families. I've met a number of individuals who have it, and they each reported the same attitudes and experiences compared to other humans. Whatever the genetic basis of that combination may be, it also has some shared behavioral aspects, perhaps as a result of the generally altered perceptive experience.

I think this video it’s very accurate and everything said relates a lot to me and my eyes. I have dark brown eyes and the brown it’s mostly seen when the sun reflects on them. I don’t see very well in very dark spaces unless I spend a decent time on the darkness. The light doesn’t bother me too much I even took the chance and looked directly at the sun (not recommended). And I can see better than most of my friends and family. I also react faster than them (maybe because I’m the youngest). Also my mother sister and father use glasses and I don’t.
