This is pay to win. Nothing more need be said. It's a small advantage, sure, but it is purchasing a advantage. The other issue, is that since HS BG released, Blizzard has been trying to balance heroes, so that power levels are on par, but now they have less incentive to balance the game, because if they leave underpowered heroes in the game, people will more likely want to use paid rerolls to get rid of them.
I think this is the main danger. ShadyBunny says "they will have to ensure good balance". Unfortunately, when looking over the numbers, they are going to say "look at how much money we are making on people rerolling trash/unfun heroes! We need to make more of those!"
I think this is a poor direction to take monetization, or at the very least poorly thought out. You forget that you can't have duplicate heroes in battlegrounds. What this change means is that paying players will be getting the "fun" heroes more often than they already are, whether that's heroes with a fun playstyle or just the best winrate ones. It raises the average strength of heroes in the average game as well, widening the gulf between payers and free players. Considering they are already having a problem with monetization, the pool of payers isn't huge. This type of monetization eventually kills the game, as it's no longer fun for free players to play and there isn't enough of a paid playerbase to sustain the matchmaking without them.
On the other hand, rerolls only happen after everyone else's hero selection has been provided. If your favourite heroes were already offered to someone else, you're still not getting them no matter how much you roll. But that's just one more reason why this system seems badly designed.
I've found that becoming free-to-play actually makes the game more variable over time (because it pushes me to try out heroes that I otherwise would skip). It doesn't really matter to me if the pay-to-play players have 4 hero choices (or even 8 with the new system) because you can play the game just fine with any hero
Yep. What other options do they have really? Ig make some other cosmetics that are really extra, or let people pay for certain customs/gamemodes or little extra things
If this is the only change for more monetization of BG it seems okay I guess, but it definitely is setting a dangerous precedent. They say they won't add more pay2win to BG, but if this earns enough for them, they'll definitely start rethinking that statement.
They already are. The survey they did a couple months ago about adding a hero reroll token also had questions about an armor token and an ingame reroll token. They’re absolutely considering the idea, they just don’t think they can get away with it for now.

If you allow pay to win aspects (like buying additional rerolls ontop of premium pass) youve ruined the fairness of the competition, this may damage the community beyond repair imo as top players leave to go elsewhere eventually
It is definitely buying power, same as restricting hero choice. Slippery slope is being confirmed for sure, now the "next fear" is that in a year it's going to be "pay 3 tokens and you get to outright choose your hero (if F2P player had it as a choice, you can take it from them and they have to reroll)". Turning into a game like slot machine, where impatient people with too much money just swipe their credit card constantly for a boost of fun.
If this gets popular, expect soon in the new Arena as well: "Pay token to reroll hero choice" and fanboys will be saying "it's not a big deal, heroes are almost the same if you're good enough". Token will become ubiquitous in all of Hearthstone, where it's just "swipe your credit card for more fun / power" in every mode and menu. Like people at slot machines just swiping card hoping to find more fun.
The battlegrounds pass should be included in the tavern pass. Otherwise just get rid of it and let us pick between 4 heroes. The rerolls are absolutely useless. Only matters if your playing for rating, which lets be honest is not something most poeple do. Battlegrounds is at this point hearthstones major gamemode, its by far the most played in the game yet blizzard is actively pushing people to spend money on the only game mode that is actually f2p. Now rerolls arent a bad thing, just feels stupid. They should give us all the choice between 4 heroes, rerolls is also something everybody should have once per game.
The big issue I see with these is that they completely go over the hero limit, so you can have multiples of the same hero in one lobby. Imagine 3 Terons in Undead lobbies or Lich Kings that will just scam you nonstop.
We say this like game communities have ever successfully fought against monetization practices. Or ANY game company screw ups. That is just how capitalism works, I don't like it either, but that is the way it is. If it doesn't make money, they aren't going to keep investing in it...

rerolls are interesting and i think are still on the side of pay to win, but if you made the base pass have 4 heroes (as it should have already) and then make the rerolls the monitization strategy. And make each hero slot get a free reroll. but greedy blizzard thats not going to happen. Or better, add a preffered hero roster for each play where they need to add at least 16 to it. Then the rerolls only helps the pay to win players so much
Well it was fun until it lasted, after some recent questionaires i knew it would go this way, not as bad as some ideas they had but it still leaves a bitter taste.
I hate how heavy the pay to win is with the game, it is a great concept and I enjoy battlegrounds but thankfully I don't care about climbing so I just quit game if I really don't want to play either hero. Might look for another game to fill the soon to be void.
I wish they would focus on rebalancing unplayable trash instead of adding more p2w mechanics. This might seem relatively innocuous but it sets a precedent for the future and disincentivizes the devs from balance because, theoretically, having more trash heroes = more stuff to reroll. Idk man it feels like bgs is really on a decline here
I'm sorry but this is the ultimate greed. Imagine playing TFT and they now started charging you to reroll augments!! I usually buy the season pass just for the extra character choice, but as long as this exists I'm going to vote with my wallet and go free to play. Greedy and I won't enable it.b
Once people accept garbage like this, they are just going to shove more of it down your throught and then the game becomes just another dogshit p2w game
Blizzard doing blizzard things only care about the money money. Would've been okay with the rerolls being able to buy with gold. Honestly as a pure BG player, I have nothing to do with a stack of ingame gold.
How is paying for something == more fun ? In life you work ( which is not fun) to get what you want, how is it paying more fun ? I know that Blizzard tries to monetize the game but paying is not more fun...Is just an advantage you are given to beat people who don't have the advantage...That's practically more fun for you disregarding the lesser people...Does having 4 hero choices or free rerolls give you more fun just because others don't have the option and you can pound them ?
Having more choice is more fun because I am more likely to see heroes I like, regardless of winrate. Shady says as much in the vid. Yes winning is fun but even if all 8 people have the pass, getting a reroll is going to improve my chances at enjoying the lobby because I get to see a minimum of 5 heroes now and hopefully select from among my favorites. Like, I am taking Rafaam 10 times out of 10 if he in a choice for me and this gives me slightly higher odds of seeing him.
Let me just reroll for gold. I spent like 30k gold on packs i never use because there is no usage for battlegrounds. I have close to 30k gold saved up again. And i still hate that they took away battle pass for gold. Any advantage for money adds a pay 2 win aspect.
Ah yes, surely Activision blizzard which was bought by Microsoft need to use foul monetisation tactics to survive to spit out 3 mini patches in a month 🤡 Keep coping, re rolling tavern for tokens is next

This is crazy as f*ck. Sure it's no big deal for most of us. But it's a big pile of crap, and then they justified themselves saying: "we don't want to add more armor, etc tokens". And oh boy, i know, you know that sentence hide a YET.
TIME TO ABBANDON BGs for good. 🙌
People just want a game that is continuously updated, balanced, new content and they want it to be completely free. I am sorry guys, but the game needs to make money and the cards aren't selling, so BG's has to make more money. It is either that or there is no BG's any more...
yea cause they dont have enought money they are almost broke poor guys you buy pixel that you dont even own when the game close you lose everything so plz shut
@@Faffo90 What's the alternative? Because are you going to pay 50 bucks for a game and then expect it to be constantly updated as well? I prefer paying a single time as well, but Hearthstone wouldn't have gotten anywhere near as big if it wasn't F2P from the start, but for a company to keep investing in a product they need to see a profit, and the profit needs to be at least as substantial as they would have gotten from investments elsewhere...
That is just how capitalism works, I don't like it either, but that is the way it is. If it doesn't make money, they aren't going to keep investing in it...
Super happy cuz I don’t have much time to play but I got disposable income so rather than wasting time with a boring hero I can try to get someone fun. Good monetization but man pay to win is always bad lol
I use the pass as a way to support BG monetization and get cool skins, but this is a bit overkill i think
Do we know yet what will be in the game instead of the 2 trinkets?
with such a large changes in minion and spell pools, probably nothing, blizz doesn't like to throw everything at once
I Love ya Shady, watched since arena days, but I'm burnt out on battlegrounds, don't know if it's just me or if it's stagnated pretty bad, seems like it's going downhill and I don't want you going down with the ship
rerolls are interesting and i think are still on the side of pay to win, but if you made the base pass have 4 heroes (as it should have already) and then make the rerolls the monitization strategy.
Why can't they give us BG players something to buy with gold?!
I dont mind rerolls. There are so many heros that u wont always +......i do however wish they would make the base pass buyable with gold again.
I wish they would focus on rebalancing unplayable trash instead of adding more p2w mechanics. This might seem relatively innocuous but it sets a precedent for the future and disincentivizes the devs from balance because, theoretically, having more trash heroes = more stuff to reroll. Idk man it feels like bgs is really on a decline here
Best feeling in HS? Nuking p2w player and making them foam at the mouth when you crush them without any fancy skin or other bs
I aint buying shit lil bro, game is ass even after they started charging money for the pass when it used to be in game gold.
I am free to play btw
Blizzard doing blizzard things only care about the money money. Would've been okay with the rerolls being able to buy with gold. Honestly as a pure BG player, I have nothing to do with a stack of ingame gold.
blizz is famous on killing its own successful games.
Lemme buy them or anything related to BGs with gold plz.
This only matters at high MMR's, the rest of us just concede and try again
Anyone who’s conceding is just playing for fun.
Lol, wasting money on rerolls when you can concede
Small advantage is still advantage you can buy it so Its pay to win so the game its trash ez
Like, I am taking Rafaam 10 times out of 10 if he in a choice for me and this gives me slightly higher odds of seeing him.
or maybe find a job that is fun? my work is fun 😂 it's how you make it for yourself
Let me just reroll for gold. I spent like 30k gold on packs i never use because there is no usage for battlegrounds. I have close to 30k gold saved up again.
And i still hate that they took away battle pass for gold. Any advantage for money adds a pay 2 win aspect.
guys if they don't monetize, you don't get content. this is fine.
Ah yes, surely Activision blizzard which was bought by Microsoft need to use foul monetisation tactics to survive to spit out 3 mini patches in a month 🤡 Keep coping, re rolling tavern for tokens is next
I need a gold dump for Battlegrounds. 15k gold is a little much, and i don't play constructed
Whatever, it's just a cheap way to get people to buy the battle pass. I wish you would have to pay to play mmr games, get the rif raf out of the fun to play games.
What's with the unrelated game, it's really distracting.
Close your eyes
Im fine with this. HS BGs is probably my favorite game, and I dont mind supporting it more.
Looks like a bot lol
How much did Blizzard pay you for this comment?
