Just got one from goodwill for 22 bucks with full height matching Bausch and lomb tripod. Shipping was another 30 but really nice. I am surprised with it. Thanks for the content.

Ouch on the shipping. But it's still a deal. Enjoy! I hope you subscribed.

Had one but the bushnell version ( Bushnell/ B&L ) worked together in the 70s and 80s

That makes sense. B&L had the older expertise in optics. Bushnell had the better brand presence in hunting.

@@MoondogReviews another thing is if you can find older Bushnell, swift, B&L , Simmons and tasco scopes that were made in the 70s to 80s those make great cheap optics . While the coatings are not up to par with today's standard the glass will surprise you. Mostly made in Taiwan if you can score a Japanese made one you won't be disappointed

Found one for $40 a couple years ago. The quality is better than anything you find new in the sub 200 level.

I got one for Christmas in the early 80's and still have it, I use to use it on my Sears 35mm camera. Showed you how old I am lol.

Heavier can mean more stable when bumped so for the range it's not a bad thing, hiking for miles trying to use for game spotting that's totally different.

I have a few of these that I have collected over the last couple of years. The black ones I have were made in Korea and the white/cream colored ones were made in Japan. I need to restore them as they are pretty dirty but overall they are all solid and built well. Even after being this old the internal grease has not dried out. The lenses are dirty and will need to be taken out and cleaned but even with the little bit of film on the lens, they still work well. One thing I wanted to note that I didn't hear mentioned in the video is that the eyepiece can also be adjusted for fine focusing and also when the camera adapter tube is used. The nice thing about these are that they have zoom capability as opposed to some of the older Bushnell (Sentry, Spacemaster, etc.) and B&L (Balscope Sr.) spotting scopes that had interchangeable eyepieces at different magnifications. Highly recommend these if you can get one under $100.

That's a good price if you can get it.

Just picked one up at a church gym sale. They had a price of $75 but I got it free.

How did you get it for free? Did you have to recite 100 Lord's prayers as payment?

Pretty crummy scope in the first place even then. You keep repeating that modern glass is so much better as if this scope is a fair representation. The hi-end glass of that era was fabulous. The difference is that new computer designed cheap glass and lenses are much better than old cheap lenses. If you want a good representation of Bausch and Lomb quality, get a Balscope Senior. You will get better performance from a midrange off-brand German 35mm camera lens from the 1960s than this old stinker.

True the Balscope was top notch.
The question I was trying to answer is if Joe Schmo has less than $80 to spend on a scope, are they better off buying a Walmart Chicom scope or vintage a B&L Discoverer / Meade, etc.? I posit the later.
