Great video Jose. I have seen TH-cam videos that tell us we need 4500. A month to prove to live in MX and its a relief to hear you tell us there are different ways to qualify. I couldn't understand how people could afford 4500. For retired seniors on a fixed income that are moving to MX. You make it very clear and easy to understand.

You have to respect the limits, but there is nothing to fear in Mexico. Everything is resolved on Mexican territory. There are no obstacles and threats like in other countries!😃😃😃

Not everyone has the finances nor desire to spend over 1,000 USD to rent a home. Some are looking for more modest living conditions for various reasons and i like to show people that there are more options out there than just the fancy places. I will actually be showing more real estate stuff in the future because that is another important topic that doesn't get covered correctly. But yeah like you said I'm not selling anything on this channel so my priorities are not to sell and rent homes, my priority is to make the best videos possible with as much information as possible for my viewers. right now in chicago the financial solvency for temporary residence is just under $4300.month. but the process was easy. now i need to go to mexico and finish it. hope that goes well. btw i really enjoyed visiting Tlaquepague.
Thank U once again, Jose, I always feel better about the prospect of having to do a couple of "border runs" after watching your videos:) Other people tend to be so negative about that and always say "they are cracking down" and you might not be able to get back in the next time, blah blah:) I came in July of 2024 after talking to Jose Novello about a year ago and I will have to make my first border run at the end of December. With my car and my dog:) crossing my fingers bc I started out in La Paz and am now in Guadalajara and I like the weather and my Barrio very much. Looks like I might have to make two border runs before I qualify but interestingly, I will come back in December 2024 which will be my 2nd FMM. I wonder if I could qualify in 2025? Probably not until 2026, right?? I am 70 and kinda tired:) Just want to get settled and be done with all of it...
I totally understand. Time will fly and you will get your residency before you know it. Once you are settled in I'm sure you will want to spread those wings and travel a bit with your new found freedom. Guadalajara is a great spot with many unique areas to visit all within driving distance. As for the visa runs you can just take a flight to Tijuana and cross the border and do the Visa run there, or fly to Cancun and take the bus to Belize. Either way all can be done on a weekend get away. Good luck with everything and enjoy the adventure!
Jose 🎉🎉🎉🎉 So I received my first stamp September 2023, visiting Cancun. September 2025 I could qualify for temporary visa? I received 180 days at the time. I will continue to listen to remaining video. This is 👍
I think so! We won't know for sure until we get word from the Mexican Gov that the RNE program will be renewed. We will let you know soon as we get the official word in a few weeks! It seems to me that the best option is to just go the tourist route. I was going to do the route through retirement, but it's expensive, stressful with no guarantees. I thought after talking to Jose I'd go the consulate route, but it sure sounds like a headache. I'm going to fly into Mexico in January and ask for the 180 day visa. I may give you a call as well!

I would schedule a quick meetingbwith José Novelo. He help our entire family get the temp res. In my humble opinion, i would not wait until later to get it done. Imagine that in 5 years, you could already have your permanent residency. One less thing to worry about in 5 years. Just my dose pesos
I would start working on your plan now and visit Mexico when possible and start planning it all out so that you can hit the ground running when you finally retire. Good luck with everything!
HELL NO, ENTER NOW to have that stamp in your passport, even if you only stay ONE DAY The second time you enter- 1 to 2 years later will give you your RNE. IF not ready for full time the 2nd entrance, ask for a week and overstay and apply for RNE, then go back home till you are totally ready.

I already have residency and I explained how I got it in the video. You can not get residency in Mexico by investing or buying land. Perhaps you are thinking of another country that offers residency through investment
Correct after you have been in Mexico over 5+ years and obtain your Permanent Residency in that time then you can go and get your Mexican Citizenship. I myself can already get mine and should stop procrastinating... 😅

I'm from Germany, so will the route be the same as for Americans or Canadians? Maybe there are not the same treaties in place for us Europeans. So how many border runs do you need to do in total for doing the RNE? What if you were given 180 days when visiting N.L., but then you only stayed for 4 weeks in 2017 or 2018, can you still use for RNE? So how many days total do you need to have to qualify for the RNE. Trying to learn how it works but it sounds a bit confusing! When you had Mr. Novelo it sounded like he said it didnt matter how many days you stayed in Mx of the 180 days given on the FMM, and then to just go back to Mx. and get like a week on FMM, and then go over 1 or 2 days past exp. Date on FMM, and then apply. Please explain a bit more.
Hi Jose, I'm a little confused. I retire in 2028, so in order to qualify for the RNE program I would need to have VISITED AT LEAST 1 TIME BETWEEN 2015-2025 for the (1/1/2027) program. (If it's still around) on my FMM. Once I enter in 2027 on my NEW FMM do I automatically qualify for the program? I am hearing that I have to stay in Mexico and then once the FMM expires then I qualify. I need clarity because I would still be tied to my job in the states and can't stay in Mexico for an extended time.
Who knows what things will look like in 2028 that is over 3 years away. If the program is still availble all they are looking for is 1 entry into Mexico on your passport which can be for as little as one day. Once you eventually apply in the future that would be on your second visit and on that visit is when you have to apply with your expired FMM. So I have stamps in my passport from 2019 and 2023 from Mexico. But I’ve been there many other times that they did not stamp my passport. First, why do they not sometimes stamp my passport ? And 1:39 if I have stamp from 2019 am I good to go to apply for temporary residency ?

I was in Mex in 2015 for one week so I understand I qualify for the RNE program. I entered Mexico again for one week in 2024. That six-month timestamp will be expiring in Sept 2024 eventhough I am no longer in Mexico. Do I have any chance of applying and gaining temporary residency status upon my return to MX? I have a 2018 stamp on my passport....Can I ask for 30 days upon entering so the FMM expires faster? Rather than waiting the full 180 days for it to expire?
Income requirements for Residency are only at Mexican Consulates located abroad. Meaning located outside of Mexico. The list of ways to get your residency mentioned in this video are only applicable in Mexico at a Mexican Immigration office. Getting residency at a Consulate is not the same as getting it in Mexico and the financial requirements does not apply in Mexico. As I described in the video there are many different ways in which one can obtain residency. For more detailed information you can do a quick google search depending on what it is you are looking for.
@@PhilHale-p2nYou just ask the immigration officer to give you 7 days. It's easier to do at the land borders, where you don't have to pay the tourist tax for any FMN up to and including 7 days.
Nope that is not what I said at all. What I said was that if you are in Mexico on a tourist Visa and get a job offer that they can vouch for you aka sponsor you and they can help you secure a Work Permit to work for them and then in turn you can get your Temporary Residency Visa through that work Permit and sponsorship. But not just any job will do this. It will have to be a job that is willing to put up the cost of doing this for you. Meaning a high skill job that would require you to have a high value skill that they can not find within the local population. You also need to know English and Spanish Fluently. The business is investing in you and part of that investment is making sure you are legally allowed to stay and work in Mexico.

Not quite sure if you can use your expired passport. But if you can then you are golden, but you can not then you need to go through a Special process to get a letter from Immigration to prove that you are in the computer system so they can proceed with processing your residency. My husband and I want to try for baby on a 6mo tourist visa, and we want to give birth in the country. Do you think they we can talk to the INM office and get another tourist visa? Or maybe do a short visa run? We’re going to Cancun but maybe we could visa run via a different airport/border
Most people get pregnant first and then come to Mexico after 4-5 months or so. But yes as of now for a Fee you can renew your tourist visa at the INM office instead of having to physically cross the border. Either way you need to plan this out on your own, not ask some random guy on youtube. 😅Good luck with everything!

My wife and I are permanent residents in Mexico. My daughter is living here and working remotely. But she has to go back and forth before her 6 month visa expires. Monetarily she would have no problem qualifying. You said Mexican citizen children can get a temporary visa. Can permanent residents do the same? Thanks
From my understanding it only works with Residency if they are under 18. Otherwise you have to wait until you are a Mexican Citizen or in your daughters case she might already qualify through the RNE program. Either way good luck!

I read many years ago that residents are not allowed to participate in political protests. Are you aware if that is still true? It is probably a detail that is still on the books.
From my understanding only Mexican Citizens can participate in Politics. It was also my understanding that Anyone that is NOT a Citizen could not get involved in Politics in Mexico. With that said i did notice many foreigners Participating in various ways and was wondering if it was truly allowed or not. The reason I say that is because from what I have seen out here they are very strict with the whole electoral process with both citizens and candidates so i would assume if some of these foreigners were truly doing something wrong it would have been to their attention but it doesn't seem like there is. So I honestly can not really answer your question because I don't really know. My advice to anyone out there is not to get involved but that doesn't mean you can not talk about it and discuss it. We are in a Free country after all. Freedom of Speech is protected here. Either way I also would like some more clarity into that and ask Jose Novelo for more information on the matter. Ernie on Visa Runs: "Jim, why are you doing that? They do not check!" (Before I got my Permanente, I used to get a cheap flight to LA every six months, do a bit of shopping, and to get a new 180 day tourist card.) But Ernie is right! Cause next time I went, I checked: At airline check-in, you must surrender your old FMM, But... they DO NOT scrutinize the entry date! They merely staple it to your boarding pass. Upon boarding, again, no scrutinizing. They want to scan the boarding pass and scrutinize your passport, but they care ZERO about the date on the attached FMM. (Believe me, I watched carefully.) Ernie was Canadian, lived for 18 years in Mexico, had a local wife and kid, and used a total of FIVE FMMs during that period. True story. (Jose, its so weird having to explain this to you, as you of all people should know: There are the official rules here in Mexico, and then there is how things really work, and its not the same...)
Oh I agree with you at many borders they don't really care. Mexican officials are very relaxed when it comes to this sort of thing. I was living in Mexico on an expired visa for almost a full year and when it came time to finally do my visa run I just had to pay a small fine to Mexican Immigration just to make sure I would be allowed back in. Which in retrospect I didn't have to do, but I felt better safe than sorry. This was way back in 2019 and there wasn't as much info on the whole process as there is today. But yeah long story short the only ones who seem to care about your entry and exit are US authorities not the Mexican officials. Regardless I am always reminding people that you can go on as many Visa runs as you want. For awhile there was a lot of bad information out there that they were "cracking down" on Visa runs or even deporting Americans but that was just all Fake information being spread. Either way as you said it is much easier than most people think. Thanks again for sharing with us!

Thank U once again, Jose, I always feel better about the prospect of having to do a couple of "border runs" after watching your videos:) Other people tend to be so negative about that and always say "they are cracking down" and you might not be able to get back in the next time, blah blah:) I came in July of 2024 after talking to Jose Novello about a year ago and I will have to make my first border run at the end of December. With my car and my dog:) crossing my fingers bc I started out in La Paz and am now in Guadalajara and I like the weather and my Barrio very much. Looks like I might have to make two border runs before I qualify but interestingly, I will come back in December 2024 which will be my 2nd FMM. I wonder if I could qualify in 2025? Probably not until 2026, right?? I am 70 and kinda tired:) Just want to get settled and be done with all of it...
I totally understand. Time will fly and you will get your residency before you know it. Once you are settled in I'm sure you will want to spread those wings and travel a bit with your new found freedom. Guadalajara is a great spot with many unique areas to visit all within driving distance. As for the visa runs you can just take a flight to Tijuana and cross the border and do the Visa run there, or fly to Cancun and take the bus to Belize. Either way all can be done on a weekend get away. Good luck with everything and enjoy the adventure!

It seems to me that the best option is to just go the tourist route. I was going to do the route through retirement, but it's expensive, stressful with no guarantees. I thought after talking to Jose I'd go the consulate route, but it sure sounds like a headache. I'm going to fly into Mexico in January and ask for the 180 day visa. I may give you a call as well!

In my humble opinion, i would not wait until later to get it done. Imagine that in 5 years, you could already have your permanent residency. One less thing to worry about in 5 years.

The second time you enter- 1 to 2 years later will give you your RNE. IF not ready for full time the 2nd entrance, ask for a week and overstay and apply for RNE, then go back home till you are totally ready.

Correct after you have been in Mexico over 5+ years and obtain your Permanent Residency in that time then you can go and get your Mexican Citizenship. I myself can already get mine and should stop procrastinating... 😅

I'm from Germany, so will the route be the same as for Americans or Canadians? Maybe there are not the same treaties in place for us Europeans.

So how many border runs do you need to do in total for doing the RNE? What if you were given 180 days when visiting N.L., but then you only stayed for 4 weeks in 2017 or 2018, can you still use for RNE? So how many days total do you need to have to qualify for the RNE. Trying to learn how it works but it sounds a bit confusing! When you had Mr. Novelo it sounded like he said it didnt matter how many days you stayed in Mx of the 180 days given on the FMM, and then to just go back to Mx. and get like a week on FMM, and then go over 1 or 2 days past exp. Date on FMM, and then apply. Please explain a bit more.

Hi Jose, I'm a little confused. I retire in 2028, so in order to qualify for the RNE program I would need to have
VISITED AT LEAST 1 TIME BETWEEN 2015-2025 for the (1/1/2027) program. (If it's still around) on my FMM. Once I enter in 2027 on my NEW FMM do I automatically qualify for the program? I am hearing that I have to stay in Mexico and then once the FMM expires then I qualify. I need clarity because I would still be tied to my job in the states and can't stay in Mexico for an extended time.
Who knows what things will look like in 2028 that is over 3 years away. If the program is still availble all they are looking for is 1 entry into Mexico on your passport which can be for as little as one day. Once you eventually apply in the future that would be on your second visit and on that visit is when you have to apply with your expired FMM. So I have stamps in my passport from 2019 and 2023 from Mexico. But I’ve been there many other times that they did not stamp my passport. First, why do they not sometimes stamp my passport ? And 1:39 if I have stamp from 2019 am I good to go to apply for temporary residency ?

I was in Mex in 2015 for one week so I understand I qualify for the RNE program. I entered Mexico again for one week in 2024. That six-month timestamp will be expiring in Sept 2024 eventhough I am no longer in Mexico. Do I have any chance of applying and gaining temporary residency status upon my return to MX? What is the best way of moving forward?
If you entered in 2015 then that is all the proof you need to provide immigration to qualify under the RNE program.

Are there different income requirements for different states or cities in Mexico ?
Income requirements for Residency are only at Mexican Consulates located abroad. Meaning located outside of Mexico. The list of ways to get your residency mentioned in this video are only applicable in Mexico at a Mexican Immigration office. Getting residency at a Consulate is not the same as getting it in Mexico and the financial requirements does not apply in Mexico. As I described in the video there are many different ways in which one can obtain residency. For more detailed information you can do a quick google search depending on what it is you are looking for.

@@PhilHale-p2nYou just ask the immigration officer to give you 7 days. It's easier to do at the land borders, where you don't have to pay the tourist tax for any FMN up to and including 7 days.

Mexico on an 180 day tourist visa and get a job offer while your here and go to INM and get temp residency?
Nope that is not what I said at all. What I said was that if you are in Mexico on a tourist Visa and get a job offer that they can vouch for you aka sponsor you and they can help you secure a Work Permit to work for them and then in turn you can get your Temporary Residency Visa through that work Permit and sponsorship. But not just any job will do this. It will have to be a job that is willing to put up the cost of doing this for you. Meaning a high skill job that would require you to have a high value skill that they can not find within the local population. You also need to know English and Spanish Fluently. The business is investing in you and part of that investment is making sure you are legally allowed to stay and work in Mexico.

My husband and I want to try for baby on a 6mo tourist visa, and we want to give birth in the country. Do you think they we can talk to the INM office and get another tourist visa? Or maybe do a short visa run? We’re going to Cancun but maybe we could visa run via a different airport/border
Most people get pregnant first and then come to Mexico after 4-5 months or so. But yes as of now for a Fee you can renew your tourist visa at the INM office instead of having to physically cross the border. Either way you need to plan this out on your own, not ask some random guy on youtube. 😅Good luck with everything!

My wife and I are permanent residents in Mexico. My daughter is living here and working remotely. But she has to go back and forth before her 6 month visa expires. Monetarily she would have no problem qualifying. You said Mexican citizen children can get a temporary visa. Can permanent residents do the same? Thanks
From my understanding it only works with Residency if they are under 18. Otherwise you have to wait until you are a Mexican Citizen or in your daughters case she might already qualify through the RNE program. Either way good luck!

I read many years ago that residents are not allowed to participate in political protests. Are you aware if that is still true? It is probably a detail that is still on the books.
From my understanding only Mexican Citizens can participate in Politics. It was also my understanding that Anyone that is NOT a Citizen could not get involved in Politics in Mexico. With that said i did notice many foreigners Participating in various ways and was wondering if it was truly allowed or not. The reason I say that is because from what I have seen out here they are very strict with the whole electoral process with both citizens and candidates so i would assume if some of these foreigners were truly doing something wrong it would have been to their attention but it doesn't seem like there is. So I honestly can not really answer your question because I don't really know. My advice to anyone out there is not to get involved but that doesn't mean you can not talk about it and discuss it. We are in a Free country after all. Freedom of Speech is protected here. Either way I also would like some more clarity into that and ask Jose Novelo for more information on the matter. Ernie on Visa Runs: "Jim, why are you doing that? They do not check!" (Before I got my Permanente, I used to get a cheap flight to LA every six months, do a bit of shopping, and to get a new 180 day tourist card.) But Ernie is right! Cause next time I went, I checked: At airline check-in, you must surrender your old FMM, But... they DO NOT scrutinize the entry date! They merely staple it to your boarding pass. Upon boarding, again, no scrutinizing. They want to scan the boarding pass and scrutinize your passport, but they care ZERO about the date on the attached FMM. (Believe me, I watched carefully.) Ernie was Canadian, lived for 18 years in Mexico, had a local wife and kid, and used a total of FIVE FMMs during that period. True story. (Jose, its so weird having to explain this to you, as you of all people should know: There are the official rules here in Mexico, and then there is how things really work, and its not the same...)
Oh I agree with you at many borders they don't really care. Mexican officials are very relaxed when it comes to this sort of thing. I was living in Mexico on an expired visa for almost a full year and when it came time to finally do my visa run I just had to pay a small fine to Mexican Immigration just to make sure I would be allowed back in. Which in retrospect I didn't have to do, but I felt better safe than sorry. This was way back in 2019 and there wasn't as much info on the whole process as there is today. But yeah long story short the only ones who seem to care about your entry and exit are US authorities not the Mexican officials. Regardless I am always reminding people that you can go on as many Visa runs as you want. For awhile there was a lot of bad information out there that they were "cracking down" on Visa runs or even deporting Americans but that was just all Fake information being spread. Either way as you said it is much easier than most people think. Thanks again for sharing with us!
