I made all of my grandkids blankets When they were younger, WOF by 50 inches using cotton on one side and a fuzzy fabric on the other side. They called them their Nana Snuggle Blanket. They are drug every where and it shows. My 13 year old granddaughter still uses hers. They all take their NSB in the car when taking trips. Makes me so happy to see them so loved.
Such a nice family traditjon and handmade gifts are so special. For many years, my aunt gifted her daughters, granddaughters, and us nieces flannel nightgowns (bought) for Christmas at her house. We all put them over what we were wearing and took a group picture. Fond memory decades later.
I started sewing for my first Grandson when I found out our daughter was pregnant! I made everything for his nursery! It was so fun & his nursery was so beautiful!
I take care of seniors who sometimes are incontinent, The vinyl inbetween the 2 towels is an excellent opportunity for a seat cover during a ride and also for an adult bib.
I made all of my grandkids their entire baby layettes😁Receiving blankets, crib sheets, burp cloths, waterproof pads for changing station, bibs, drool bibs and taggies stuffed with rattles and crinkly material on the inside. I also make custom baby baskets. Hugs from Fl🥰😘😭🦩Donna
I made all of our daughter's cloth diapers, plastic pants, many of her clothes, and everything featured in her nursery. We were dollar poor but i had my sewing machine, a stash of fabric, and notions. Then as our circumstances improved i made Kinder Care's baby chest pack/carrier as gifts. They no longer make that pattern so i have guarded mine with my life! Those carriers were well received, and the interior seat is adjustable as baby grows. I always offered a lifetime of repairs and restoration of stitches to return the carrier to newborn size so it could be used for the next babies in the family or passed on. I loved making and gifting those carriers.
For the winter months, it’s nice to make a blanket with one side flannel and the other in minky. I did a small version to use over the baby in an infant car seat, then a larger (40 x 40) for crib or stroller on those really cold days.
My daughter loved a Velcro diaper holer that holders diapers and wipes together so all you have to do is hand it to someone to change diaper. So easy and very handy. Cute fabric and a cute button for decoration or cloth flower.
Awe....baby Avery congratulations to all... He must be about 9 months old now. Such joy!!!! I enjoyed the store tour for needles...lol I was busy in the kitchen and only caught bits and pieces of sewing. I thought you wete making a changing pad out if cotton and putting towel inside...lol Thst just may actually make a nice changing pad, not sure what do yas all think? I am needing a baby gift . Grandaughter is 3 months. Since 2 months she has grabbed any blan I et and smiles really big. I made a few of these smaller with the super soft on one side. She is going to be a blanky baby. 😊
It's 3am in the morning....and hot...in the dead middle of summer. I just found out I'm going to be a first time grandma. I can't sleep...half too hot, half hot flashes and too hot. I'm watching this video in front of an open freezer in just my undies...trying to cool off because I will apparently NOT be going back to sleep anytime soon. I just wanted to say that this is the first time I've seen this channel and whoever this lady is.....I just want to say thank you for this video. Not only have you kept me company for the 40 minutes but you did so and I felt like you could be that nice neighbor next door. I enjoyed watching this and it gave me some good ideas and helped me pass the time while I'm fire here. Thank you
my goal (maybe half way there ) is to make 3 baby afghans for each grandchild, blue, pink, and neutral, and I think I have those done (8 grandkids) and I want to make each of them a queen size afghan, for when they are married. I am in my 70's and love crocheting, but I don't know if I can make them, when each gets married. I have arthritis so I could be around but just unable to crochet anymore, so planning ahead. I have sewing projects to add as well, so my grandkids as well as future great grandkids will all have a hand crocheted blanket from me, and large receiving blankets in pink, blue, and neutral as well, even if I am not here. I make burp clothes for them as well, and anything else I will be able to make (sleep sacks, bibs, etc. thinking if I get all that done, maybe baby quilts) My grandkids are from age 5 to 24 years old (sorry if this doesn't make sense, I am on a long road trip and its 3:30 in the morning in the hotel room)
The towel that your sewing is good for adult bibs that for people are in nursing homes or even in your own home. If you’re eating something that you don’t want to splash on your own clothes!! Forgot to tell u my name is Gloria. I love your ideas. Also would love to know the name of your sewing machine? It looks like a Bernina . I wanted to buy one but changed my mind because there was nothing wrong with my machine.
That is a great idea for adult bibs. The design could be used for just about anything when you want to guard against spills. Reva is sewing on the Baby Lock Ballad. The sweater is adorable. It looks hand knitted. However, is there a pattern for sewing one out of maybe minky or.knit fabric? I am making baby gifts for a friends new grandbaby.
The average baby burp cloth is 15 -22" long and 10 - 15" wide. It is up to personal preference how large an area you would like it to cover when over your shoulder.
It is a good idea to pre-wash all your fabric before you cut and sew it. It is personal preference as some people do and some don't. But we feel that washing your fabric is the best way to ensure whatever you make won't shrink the first time it is laundered.

@@franceshulgan829you can get different size acrylic circle templates now. I got mine at hobby Lobby or Joanns. You can also make one. I usually use the 21/2” circle template, but you can choose any size.

I have made my pattern of burp rags or clothes. Everyone I made them for loves them. You just put them over your shoulder when u burp the baby. I made them 2 different Colton. One side is one color and different color on there side. A QUESTION I HAVE FOR U IS WHAT CAN I USE ON THE EDGES OTHER THAN BIAS TAPE. SOMETIMES IT GETS HARD USING THE BIAS TAPE. I TRIED A ZIG ZAG BUT MY SEWING MACHINE ISNT NEW. IN FACT VERY OLD BUT SEWS BEAUTIFULLY. I HAVE ALSO MADE CARROTS FOR A CENTER PIECE FOR MY TABLE. THEY CAME OUT SO CUTE!!
If you have a serger you can use a rolled hem decorative stitch around the edge. If you don't have a serger an overcast stitch on your machine should do the trick.
With the bulk of the corners, why not just cut the bulk out before sewing? I have been making baby stuff recently so much fun. Is there a market for this type of stuff to sell?
I love making baby quilts, blankets and bibs. I use terry cloth fabric for the bibs and they are so absorbent. For the bibs, I fold one end over about 3-4 inches and cut out a half circle for the neck. Then I stitch around the part I cut out and then flip it back over and top of stitch it. I sew about 10” length of sturdy ribbon to each side of the neck part so it can be tied in the back of the neck. People love them because they’re a good size for covering up the clothes and they last forever. I’ve also made them for adults.
I sewed extensively for my kids, nieces, nephews and grands. I made gifts for showers too. But do to the extensive U.S. Compliancy laws I only sew for family now. 😢
You can use pinking sheers instead of straight scissors when trimming the corners and excess fabric. That would add bulk once the blanket is turned right side out.
The reason you would want to adjust the pressure of the foot is so it won't bunch the fabric by being too bulky. Adding another layer of stabilizer really wouldn't help with that.
To make my baby things burb clothes etc waterproof I purchase a child’s mattress protector and cut to size. It has low loft towelling on one side and plastic on the other side. No bulk and easy to sew. Cheers Frances from Australia

Thanks for this video, great idea! How does the vinyl wash tho? You have to throw it in the wash at some point...
It washes up nicely. It will stay looking nice as long as you air-dry it.
Sorry new to sewing do you pre wash the flannel before you sew it 🤔
It is a good idea to pre-wash all your fabric before you cut and sew it. It is personal preference as some people do and some don't. But we feel that washing your fabric is the best way to ensure whatever you make won't shrink the first time it is laundered.

Is the dual feed foot the same as a walking foot>
They serve similar purposes but if your machine has a dual feed that is built into the machine whereas a walking foot is an attachment you would add.
We have the same name 😊🌸🌷

You could always cut the corners off if you would prefer to do that. Many people sell homemade gift items on Etsy or at local craft festivals.

Can you machine wash & machine dry the layered towel with the vinyl inside?
Yes you can. It would be best to machine wash on cold and dry on low heat.
I sewed extensively for my kids, nieces, nephews and grands. I made gifts for showers too. But do to the extensive U.S. Compliancy laws I only sew for family now. 😢
When do you pinky the seams
You can use pinking sheers instead of straight scissors when trimming the corners and excess fabric. That would add bulk once the blanket is turned right side out.
How would you quilt the baby blanket?
You don't really need to quilt the receiving blanket but if you wanted to you can.
Could you use a tear away stabilizer instead if you can not lesson the presser foot?
The reason you would want to adjust the pressure of the foot is so it won't bunch the fabric by being too bulky. Adding another layer of stabilizer really wouldn't help with that.
Why didn't she finish it? Where can vinyl be purchased?
You can purchase vinyl at your local craft store.
Why not do a narrower seam allowance
You don't want to sew too close to the edge and risk having missing stitches. It is best to leave some space and trim down to remove excess bulk.
A small one might go under a high chair.
That is a great idea!
What is WOF?
Width of fabric
WOF - Refers to the Width of Fabric. This is how wide it is from selvage edge to selvage edge
Width of fabric

We used standard clear vinyl that you can purchase from just about any fabric store, or you could use a shower curtain too.

do not put towels under a car seat, you are creating space that should not be there.
