I agree,if you break it down,,a new sprinter van about £35,000,then a quarter of a kitchen about £4-5000,then toilet and not the best of comfort or luxury about £3000 so that’s Circa £42,000 but new motor homes 4 berth around £75,000 so where does the other £30,000 come from…
Agreed, I think im going to save up for a trawler, because for £40k you can get more space, more comfort and even have a couple of solar panels on the roof for that extra charge
Panel vans are produced as work vehicles for contractors. Designed for working life of three or four years and a hundred thousand miles. Storing them outdoors in rainy, damp UK is not the best treatment for a long life. Buy a van as your daily driver and go camping in the summer. Throw in a Mattress, mains electric cable unit, camping stove, camp kitchen, water containers, cassette toilet, frame tent for outside storage. Having said that we caravanned with a tourer for decades and enjoyed every moment. Never paid lots of money, bought vans with slight damage or insurance claim history. Check for damp, lift all the upholstery, check under divans into storage lockers, check cupboards and have a good sniff. Invest in a damp meter. Smokers, animals and damp leave aromas you’ll never eradicate.

Just wait for the drop of 20-33%. The key is the falling prices at Auctions - save yourself a bundle and just wait.
I recently sold my Burstner motorhome for exactly £30000. I purchased it 8 years ago for £27500 from a dealer and put 40k miles on it. Had 62 enquiries on it and the first person purchased it for full asking price. The market has gone bonkers, completely unattainable for the common man sadly.
I bought a 1970 Thomson Glenalmond fifteen foot caravan in 1973 for £350. Inflation struck in the '70's and I sold it in 1980 for £850. EU added 21% vat to luxury goods and caused the demise of many companies, including Thomson. Lovely vans for the era. And they had proper suspension- coil springs and shock absorbers.
@ironmountainx make sure you spend that 30k quickly. Once you exchange valuable goods for fiat currency you're on a slippery slope. They can print that currency out of thin air. Your Burstner can't be remade cheaply and if you want it back it'll cost you £350k then 30million£ eventually due to inflation and later, hyperinfation. It happened to the Germans in the 1930's. It's happening again
@@br5380 What has compound inflation got to do with 8 - 9 years of holidays and mountain biking trips.... In answer to you question regarding the cost new now, Burstner no longer make the vehicle/conversion and don't build a comparable vehicle/conversion. Am a little lost as to what you getting at here?
Considering how much they cost, I see many motor homes spending a lot of time on driveways. You'd have to go on a lot of holidays abroad in one to equal the cost of flights and hotels and a hire car. And that's not taking into account fuel, insurance, maintenance etc.
Don't forget that they are an asset that brings in cash when they are sold. I would also rather spend my time travelling in my second home than struggling to get to the airport hours before the flight, sitting in uncomfortable lounges buying over priced drinks, breathing recycled air for hours in a cramped seat and then having the transfer to your final destination. And then you have the same unpleasant experience two weeks later coming home.
bought a lovely motorhome for 25k, live in it full time, mostly campsites and some countryside park ups. Worked out great. Best 25k investment ( 5 years ago) Rent is about 12-15k a year here.
im still searching around that price but so far their heavily corroded underneath, and leak, high mileage and few owners with hardly any service history and no hab cert, so ive got alot more saving up to do yet :-/
You are right. I nearly bought one 10 years ago for £16,000................it would not be the same price! Yes, I missed out, but I wouldn't have used it much. From next year I would love one, and use it loads, but way too expensive! I always calculate how much in a car( better fuel economy ) and a b+b. That camper price is A LOT of b+b's!
The problem being that a lot of other folk think the same thing and has pushed the price of good used vans up also. Fitted out my own camper (which I no longer have) over 14 yrs ago and had many years of great holidays in it. (The van was a Ford Transit minibus bought for £6500 and kitted out with 3 way fridge, toilet and 3 burner hob for £2000) It isn’t as hard as you may think to fit out so long as you have some space to do the work and some hand skills. I am going to do it again and will be keeping it very simple and as bare as possible so I have a usable van when not camping. One thing I will advise on is insulation. It makes an incredible difference in both heat retention and noise reduction. I never had heating in my van at first. I did end up fitting a small custom wood burner for winter use which worked really well.
Exactly.you could bought a renault trafic ,2005 van for a couple grand ,maybe 4or5 tops for immaculate low mileage.wouldn’t cost you 10grand to kit it out .he must have some mark up on those!
The dealers drove the prices through the roof during COVID now travel has opened up their market is shrinking so they will drag them down again because the market for them has shrunk.
The continental manufactured motorhomes tend to have smaller kitchen areas because generally speaking the weather is more favourable on the continent and they tend to eat al fresco which is why the continental vans & motorhomes always almost tend to have outside barbeque points & no internal oven except for the UK market. One thing I have noticed is the 6 - 6.5 metre compact motorhomes are so popular that the prices new for this category are higher than the 7 metre motorhomes. The Pilote 626D & Burstner Harmony line TD 590 are two examples where the prices have rocketed! Very interesting vlog Jason and Kev. Happy new year to you! Ok

Once again providing some of the best service we’ve received in 40 years of Motorhome and Caravan ownership👏👏 yes motorhome are expensive but not if you use them. We did 80 nights away last year and are just about to head to Spain for 6 weeks. Way cheaper than other forms of holidays. Given on the whole they do hold prices pretty well.😀
I have just retired and have decided to invest in a micro camper (Nissan NV 200 full conversion). I waned a vehicle that could be used as our primary vehicle therefore allowing us to sell, certainly my car, but possibly the wife's as well. I want a vehicle under 2m to avoid those pesky height barriers and still good enough to do the weekly shop. My only worry is that the government will make it harder and harder for the peasants to stay on the road......
Yeah that 2m height is a critical step. Go beyond that and you can't really use the camper as your only vehicle. Our van has been our only car since about 1998. Given the slow progress on e-vans we are seriously considering getting an electric car and a taller van for 'far end of Europe' type trips. We're going to try a pop-top first and see how that goes.
Love watching your channel especially the banter with you and kev. Wished we had come to you to buy a motorhome. In just under a year we been offered £16,000 less than we brought her for unbelievable.

Thanks for that, very informative. Sounds like spending 25k is the bare minimum for anything half decent here. When you look at for instance what the work VW campers at that price have had done, it can fill over a page in maintenance repairs. As others oh here say, you have to justify these prices, by something like the use as a daily work vehicle or use them a good few times to get away or something and not just leave them on your driveway.
Yes, we are back in the market for a “New-2-Us” Motorhome or Campervan. Possibly not new this time and possibly a bit smaller than 7.5m, perhaps even a panel van type. Sadly our beautiful 2015 Chausson 728eb, which we owned since new, and only had 43,000 miles, has been sent to the salvage people by the Insurance for onward sale or breaking. This was after an incident on the M6 in September where of some road debris caused the driver rear tyre tread and debris to come through the multiple layers of flooring, with a bang, knocking the loo for 6 too! I thought the toilet or fridge had exploded. It was repairable, but not all original parts were available and could take a further 3-6 months to order, receive and repair. The insurance didn’t want to get involved with a repair that was not 100% back to the original so took the decision to salvage it. Hopefully some enthusiast gets a good chance of buying and repairing it as the engine and rest of van was in excellent condition. I enjoy your reviews and information so we’ll keep an eye out on your stock list and come pay you a visit when the time is right.
Like the Auto-Sleeper Kingham, but don’t need the AC for touring Scotland, we have our own natural a/c! The bigger, luxurious vans are on par with what we had, our however had a better fridge/freezer, separate toilet, shower & sink / vanity area plus an outside 3 burner bbq and hot/cold external shower for the dog# etc. Mmm might be hard downsizing, but we’ll have to give it a try.

We are going away for a couple of years & weighing up whether the £ loss on buying & selling a motorhome + the freedom is worth it over the cost of hotels/Airbnb + no worries. It's tough!
Currently 9470 for sale on auto trader, there was around 4500 for sale during lockdown effectively a sellers market then compared to now thus contributing to the price increase. Like house prices it’ll flatten out for used until the market stabilises I guess!
Make your mind up guys. Headline says ‘crash is here’ on camera you say it’s not crashing 🤣 the amount you have for sale, the length of time they are on your forecourt tells me it’s not as rosey as you are saying 😊
My friend, who happens to be a motorhome dealer, has informed me that they are currently facing difficulties in selling their vans. In fact, he knows of dealers who have gone out of business because they are unable to lower the prices and are still waiting for a significant sale. I recently visited a dealer in Dundee who mentioned that the prices have not yet decreased. Interestingly, he had 30 motorhomes two months ago and still has 29 of the exact same ones. I suggest conducting an experiment by attempting to sell your vans to the dealer. You will likely receive a disappointingly low offer, which will make you realize that the situation is not as positive as it may seem.
A great video for anyone just thinking of making the leap from a caravan or just starting with a home on wheels. People will say that they are overpriced but base vehicle prices have rocketed in the last few year. They will also say that they can get cheaper privately but you get peace of mind if you buy from a deal who inspects, repairs and services the vehicles before sale. The hardest thing about buying one is convincing your wife that you need one or need to upgrade. Happy new year to Jason, Kev and the rest of the team.
You get the freedom to go where you want. However they are expensive to run and store and you could have a family holiday just on servicing and storage costs a year. Thats without any Diesel or campsite costs!
The advantage of a Volkswagen sized camper van over a coach built is you can use it as a daily driver, ditch your car, that helps financially, that'd be my choice . Thanks for the update lads, good luck with booking a Turkish barber for a shave then 😉
The prices are crazy... I know people have been saying it for a year or two now, but they surely have to crash soon? At some point, surely people are going to wake up to the fact that you could spend 50 nights a year in mid tier hotels for the next ten years for less than the price of a motorhome? I know some will say "But you get some money back at the end" which is true. However, after ten years, the value has dropped a lot. Not only that, but unless you've got 50k in cash to just drop on a van, you're also paying up to tens of thousands on top in interest for your finance agreement. So a good chunk of the money you get back at the end will only be the interest you've paid on top. I love the idea, but the market right now is insane... My only hope of enjoying this hobby is converting a used van myself.

I work in the Kelpies as car park staff and see some cracking kit come in to overnight park. Most expensive the year was a couple in a £265,000 vehicle (but they live in it full time) down to one of them Roma vans (you did a video on it) which I thought was just great. I wonder if as one of the subscribers mentioned, how ofter are vans used compared to the cost of just going abroad on a plane for holidays. Some of the overnight parking charges from what I hear are £30-£70 a night or more. It's not a cheap weekend away and it's left on your drive for the rest of the week. I wonder if you could do a video on that; a comparison sort of thing.
There was a surge in demand for motorhomes during the pandemic due to forced staycations. The people who bought them are yet to accept their true market value in resale. But there will come a point where resellers realise that its better to take a loss now rather than wait several years for depreciation to do the same thing.

Some ridiculous prices now...I paid 5K for my campervan (Mazda Bongo) 9 years ago, still on the road, suits us as a leisure and everyday vehicle...no intention of paying silly prices ! Someone is raking it in and making excessive profit. But the guy is very informative.
Great video guys, do you have any insights into A class motorhomes? I think you did a video last year including them, but unfortunately wasn’t in this one, would love to know your thoughts and values of these please?
just visited highbridge caravan & motorhome and they have huge compounds with rows and rows of motorhomes and caravans - im not sure if they are selling much.
I thought it was illegal to hype prices and my take on it is, Vans were never at a shortage but the trade hyped the price on increase buying alone and that has to be illegal..
Not much hope for my £5,000 budget then lol .Yet i have seen many decent motorhomes in private sales for around £4,000 .I have seen many in the NL especially on FB market place .
I don’t think the prices will drop much yes you can get a motor home for under £5000 but we are looking at 30 year old yes some are very usable and just as much fun but if you want a nicer mh you have to delve into your pocket quality costs. Self builds are fun but once you get the motor homing bug you soon want something nicer . If you can’t afford it finance it Lol I know someone hew spent £30k on one holiday
Why would a used vehicle dealer suggest that there is still some fat in used prices? Not sure the 'laddish' presentation gives much confidence either. The truth is pitch fees are choking the market for caravans and campers. As a static owner on a site with touring provision, 60% occupancy happens once a blue moon!
I have a knaus sun ti ..but i think with the massive increase on site fees goverments that want us all off the roads with pricing to piss anyone off in 10 years motorhomes will be finished and worthless

You missed out the best layout the double drop down beds ! I really can see anything better , i think our next mover is the benimar t482 with 2 double drop downs and 2 living spaces . Best of both worlds
Happy New Year! Thank you for all of your videos in ‘23. Wishing you a healthy and prosperous 2024. X
I have a 2007 Fiat Carioca; at these prices, I won't be changing any time soon, IF ever. Crazy money for some, you can hardly get in.
Excellent! Most welcome addition to the ‘good advice’ catalogue.
You certainly have not lost it. Thank you for a very informative and interesting presentation.
Glad you enjoyed it Jim 😀
Overpriced vans 😬. Good vid though pal but think about it 50k buys a lot of sunny holidays and poolside fun 🤪
But when you spent your50k on hols , moneys spent, we still got a motorhome and hols not in a Spanish sh*t hole
Gosh you two crack me up😂 brilliant video and very insightful.
Wishing you both a wonderful new year🎉
Happy New year lads hope you a really good year looking forward to your new films in 2024❤
A great video for anyone just thinking of making the leap from a caravan or just starting with a home on wheels.
Clearly you are a dealer. 😊
I think what maybe slowing it down ,is the cost of insurance ,it's skyrocketed
Nice vid , it's all very tempting. Couple of beers and a fried breakfast and it all makes sense
Sounds great! MegaDeano, Thanks for watching 👍
Personally I love to see big converted vans what people do to them is absolutely mindblowing 😊
Hi. Yes it's great to see the whole picture then the end result! thanks for watching Ventibreeze 😃
It's all in the planning. Enjoy the build..
It sure is Themaylins, And thanks for watching 😀
You get the freedom to go where you want. However they are expensive to run and store and you could have a family holiday just on servicing and storage costs a year. Thats without any Diesel or campsite costs!
Great video, always. Informative and to the point. Happy New year!
The advantage of a Volkswagen sized camper van over a coach built is you can use it as a daily driver, ditch your car, that helps financially, that'd be my choice .
Thanks for the update lads, good luck with booking a Turkish barber for a shave then 😉
Great informative video 👍
Brilliant vlog and really useful. Loving the new beardy look…suave
😀
Brand new Swift Trekker van at a bargain 70K four birth with belted seats a fixed bed and a pop up hood with sky light ..is a game changer .priced to sell..Yes brand new 70K on a swift with a 13" flat screen on a Ford / VW BARGAIN
Great Content Chaps, You need some Old Reliable Mercedes W638 Vito's
engines and gearbox is bullet proof om611 engines & getrag gearbox do a million miles.
Great video, great review happy new year to you all thanks for sharing
i like that hymer motorhome perfect layout for me not keen on them you had on at begining where everyone sits forward lol
He wont as he is in the business of SELLING .
I was just about to say the same
Thanks for sharing , we are from Sweden nice to see your motorhome and Van.👍
Thanks for watching! 🇸🇪
There was a surge in demand for motorhomes during the pandemic due to forced staycations. The people who bought them are yet to accept their true market value in resale. But there will come a point where resellers realise that its better to take a loss now rather than wait several years for depreciation to do the same thing.
Really enjoyed the video, happy new year to you both 👍🏼
Wounder if you can resolve a problem main battery on our motorhome Bailey autograph 79-4i is loosening charge change battery still same problem been told its possible internal problem in motorhome inverter electric box had fuses checked all ok would be main box is the problem thanks rob
Market for used has certainly slowed with a plethora of dealers starting to discount and I'm sure higher insurance premiums will be having an impact. Enjoy your trip Jason and ask Matt to give you a Prime Pooping Position Bobblehead for me, I've been trying to win one for ages, all the best guys. Cheers K.
Really useful vid....thank you.
Happy new year pal all the best for 2024 🎉
Well done lads top bit of info thank u
Thanks Michael 👍
Happy new year lads 🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉👍👍
Some ridiculous prices now...I paid 5K for my campervan (Mazda Bongo) 9 years ago, still on the road, suits us as a leisure and everyday vehicle...no intention of paying silly prices ! Someone is raking it in and making excessive profit. But the guy is very informative.
Thanks for watching 👍
Thank you so much for all these shows. You are a handsome man❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
😃
Excellent presentation/ video.
Well done guys great video good work 👌
Some MPG details would be helpful..
👍
They're not overpriced they hold there money when selling ❤
Hi Tim,And yes your right they do hold the value if looked after 😃
Great video guys, do you have any insights into A class motorhomes? I think you did a video last year including them, but unfortunately wasn’t in this one, would love to know your thoughts and values of these please?
Why has Marquis, a thriving vendor in Golden x Eastbourne closed down?
A lot for sale here in Australia as insurance rip people off. Massive issues with service VW 's .
👍
I don't see any reduction in the prices even private sellers still; asking over 20'000 for over 20 year old vans.
No jon its looking that way.😐
Jason whats your opinion on the Comfortmatic Gearbox compared to the new nine speed auto gearbox? Is the old gearbox problems?
People saying they're gonna go down... Try buying a new one, unless those come down which they won't, used prices will stay high
👍
Really useful 👍
Glad to hear that 😀
just visited highbridge caravan & motorhome and they have huge compounds with rows and rows of motorhomes and caravans - im not sure if they are selling much.
All depends in what people are after, Im sure they will sell 👍
Excellent video!
Hi Jason and Kev. Happy New Year to you all. Is the Nissan NV2OO for sale please? I can't see it on your Website. Many thanks. 😎
Love it. "Let's have a luke" 😂
Luke here!! i will try to be posh next time 😂
Are there any with a ceiling high enough for a 6 foot 7 inches person to stand up in?
No sorry 😐
I thought it was illegal to hype prices and my take on it is, Vans were never at a shortage but the trade hyped the price on increase buying alone and that has to be illegal..
👍
Any of them for that money have proper offgrid solar set up as standard or thats another 4k on top?
Hi Josh some do!😃
Shame you didn't sell the Hymer however as it's look lovely and would have been great for our family.
😀
At the end of the day they are commercial vans with a bed sink 70 thousand pounds better off with a holiday home that gains in value
👍
How about the Ford Custom conversation pop up?
Not much hope for my £5,000 budget then lol .Yet i have seen many decent motorhomes in private sales for around £4,000 .I have seen many in the NL especially on FB market place .
Undoubtedly scammers for those prices.
Be careful lots of scams about
The price of these things is mental.
😐
I don’t think the prices will drop much yes you can get a motor home for under £5000 but we are looking at 30 year old yes some are very usable and just as much fun but if you want a nicer mh you have to delve into your pocket quality costs. Self builds are fun but once you get the motor homing bug you soon want something nicer . If you can’t afford it finance it Lol I know someone hew spent £30k on one holiday
Hi Dansbus. yes your right about the prices not dropping anytime soon, It all depends on what your looking for etc and your budget 😃
After doing the currency conversion to CAD, man these RVs are expensive!!! Are they THAT expensive elsewhere as well, or just in the UK?
Hi Kyung, you will find that prices are roughly the same in the uk.
We could only dream to own one for our family as over inflated prices keep us and our common sense out of the market.
Are people actually paying £70k for what is essentially a Volkswagen van!!
never mentioned is what price these vans are bought in at and the mark up that is added by these dealers
😐
Good to see the range but the prices are mental.
👍
Why would a used vehicle dealer suggest that there is still some fat in used prices? Not sure the 'laddish' presentation gives much confidence either.
The truth is pitch fees are choking the market for caravans and campers. As a static owner on a site with touring provision, 60% occupancy happens once a blue moon!
I have a knaus sun ti ..but i think with the massive increase on site fees goverments that want us all off the roads with pricing to piss anyone off in 10 years motorhomes will be finished and worthless
Sorry to hear that Tim 😐
@TheMotorhomeMan the comment was not aimed at you and was not meant to offend i tried to relay thd fact that it's the politicians etc I have gripe with .I do hope we all continue to enjoy our passion for travel in caravans and motorhomes and you continue to thrive and provide a commodity for us
Absolutely mental prices. Whoever pays these prices must be mad, thats my opinion
👍
I thought all the ulez and caz nonsense would have a dramatic impact on older motorhomes
I'm guessing you got socks for Christmas and not a razor?! 😆🤘
Your prices over the top..
👍
some of them are the actual price of a house in some parts of Scotland
😃
