I love katrina! I dont how the rest of Filipinos think about. I never been cray about a singer until ktrina came. She’s not backed by mainstream networks… katrina is also very himble and low key… she doesnt overshadow other singers when on stage when in fact she really can just leave them in dust… 😂

I am one of those viewers who appreciate your honest sentiments. Thank you! In my opinion, this is Katrina's best rendition of this song. I recall I had to whisk my cheat sheet for the English translation when I first heard this a few months ago. This is beautiful, and she is exceptionally true to her strong, clear, and crisp vocals. Her breath control is above anyone who thinks they can garner a mile or so for an intricate length of a run. Haha! If anyone thinks I am partial to her, I definitely am. I'm also one of those odd one out. I'm perplexed as to why her people do not support her as much as the other artists in her country. It boggles the mind. Thanks again for Katrina! @@KingAllan Dang! Well, their standards are quite irrelevant. It’s not exceedingly connected to what Kat’s real talents is. Her demeanor and choice of satisfaction as to what makes her happy is not just a mere contentment with half measures, it’s more of personal form of achievements, of fulfillments; I suppose. Also, even a cross-eyed person can tell that she is gorgeous. Their benchmark is truly extraneous. Sad and irritating. Anyways, I wish Katrina the best in every way possible. Filipinos are the most critical and hardest fans to please, especially when it comes to music and arts. Like yourself, we love when artists hit us hard emotionally on first take. When Katrina broke into the music industry, she was only emulating Regine and other artists ...but she's slowly proving her own worth, her own unique musical quality.
Can't be too tough on artists if we want them to flourish. It has to be a balance.

Most Filipino prefer beauty than talent, lighter than darker colour... Thats the reason why Katrina now is not the original one anymore! She's beautiful now Though i prefer the old Katrina. To be honest...for me, shes the best Filipino singer for two reasons. 1.) Her breath 🫁 control/capacity. With that God given gift... She can easily glides smoothly at every notes.
2.) She can imitate/even surpass so many famous singers. Why surpass? Because of reason number 1 ... 😊😅😮😢😂🎉❤

I wholeheartedly agree with you analysis. When I watched this it made me want to sing filipino songs. The only way I can make sense of why she’s underrated, PARTISANSHIP, much like in politics. Again this is my opinion, she is one of the best singers in the world. You reacting to her helps the world little by little to know this phenomenal singer!

@@KingAllan I asked my female doctor from the Philippines why these great singers were not more known in the states and she didn’t skip a beat, they’re Asian. Facial features, etc. She went to med school with Lea Solango (?!), who decided to audition for “Miss Saigon” on Broadway and never looked back…she said, look at her…she doesn’t look “really Asian.” She doesn’t…what a voice. Disney loves her (Mulan, etc) You will notice many Pinoy singers have had plastic surgery including Katrina. Sad. Look at some older photos. She came back after taking time off from losing her husband looking really different. Her duet “I Surrender” was her first venture back. A real turning point personally, physically and professionally. She’s skipped on two US tours…I was supposed to see her and she canceled…not a good move. Sorry to go on, but trying to fill in a few gaps. She likes being a big fish in a little pond I think.
I'm not with the plastic surgeries and what not .... I don't like that Artists are forced into this nonsense.

I have few theories as to why Katrina is not that popular...
1. Yes she is beautiful... but in PH may not conform to the standard of beauty. We are a country with colonial mentality, thinking a beauty standard needs to have lighter skin tone... you have two other PH belters in your daily reactions, what do they have in common?
2. Katrina is pegged as a stereo typical belters who can hit crazy high notes. Thats the stardard, but theres a lot to her belting... Asian Games just finished in that perspective there are discipline that has degree of difficulty and scores are based on the DOD... she makes her songs as difficult as it is, looks and sound orinary belting to the crazy PH fans that craves for belting.
3. Going back to the standard of beauty, the record companies and even TV networks are reluctant to sign her and make her a staple in their roster of talents.
4. Her own decision of not competing in International competition... she was invited several times to perform abroad... in PH, guys like Charice and Marcelito was just an ordinary talented singer until they went abroad and gained global recognition, only then did Pinoys embraced them and started to comment the rag tag lines of pinoys saying "proud to be filipino" now they are claiming as their own...
Sad reality and the dark side of the vibrant welcoming kind nature of Filipino culture.
Man that sucks .... She's phenomenal. Beauty standards are wack af for real.
She also should have competed. She would have decimated her competition with ease.
Charice had the potential to be the biggest star to come out of the PH but she chose happiness and inner peace. I'm happy for Jake.

I like her....she's one of the best singers in the Philippines...I don't get as well why until now is still Under-rated singer in our country??? crab mentality can be observed to some that are not pure blooded Filipino, if you go to provinces, there is bayanihan or helping each other. I think what Philippines need are great composers who can compose great english songs with great tunes.
I agree with you on the composers part cause I think the calibre of singers from PH is so high that the calibre of composers needs to be above or on the same level.
In terms of the mentality, I'm not familiar with why some bring down other artists to elevate their favourites. That never felt right to me, personally.

Me too. Im a man and my favorite singer here in the PH is Katrina Velarde, they say that shes not marketable, the bad side of ph industry is they always look first in the artist looks. Or people think that katrinas technique is common same as other people here that you just need to just sing loud like shouting. They dont know that katrinas technique is beyond thqt level espcially her riffs and runs.

Honestly, before I don't like Katrina's way of singing. It was like exaggerated, to me all she was doing was shouting loudly. That is when she is starting to get recognized here in PH. But after several years, IDK maybe she has changed her approach on her singing style that it made me like her and listen to her covers more and more. This is just my POV

I bet Regine loves this! I don’t know why she has not received international exposure/recognition. Maybe lack of good representation…I don’t know…I know I am one of those super fans that love her regardless, but come on now-she is one of the elite best out there. I am also gonna suggest she is content where she’s at…has to start with her wanting it to be more…says someone who could qualify as a grandparent.
You will love this anecdote: Mariah listened to her on You Sang My Song and just had the biggest smile and so complimentary, listened to the entire song…said she was “ a beautiful girl…she’s a superstar.” Mariah Carey-who doesn’t suffer fools. Said that.

Regine sets the standard so high, so artist in new generation are still being compared to her. Regine has it all, except dancing. See, Sarah was given a chance because she can dance and has appeal as an actress as well. Julie Anne San Jose is a total performer too, composer, an actress and can play plenty of musical instruments. Mori atleast has almost the same level of vocal power with Regine and with the help of social media became popular. And Kat is close to Mori when it comes to style and talent but still has to prove to reach the same level of fame from these artists i mentioned. Mori and Kat are all just singers. Both Kat and Mori became popular mainly with the help of social media and with their covers and own efforts. Regine, Sarah and Julie Anne are being taking care of under biggest network or under exlcusive management for the longest time. They are already popular even without social media. They are one of the highest paid celebrities too and endorsers in the Philippines and they are really multitalented artist with the appeal as other popular celebrities. Beauty and exceptional talents in short.
I mentioned this once before .... Lack of a PR team and management, it's virtually impossible for artists to grow.

You are right! If i will to invest money, i will still choose Regine, Sarah or Julie Anne. Watch Regine when she was younger, you will see the difference. These new generations of artists are no matched at all.
