This is objectively false. I say this as someone who's been a fan since 2009. B.o.B was a phenomenal artist who made timeless music throughout his career. Listen to "One Day", "Coastline", "Joburg" and "E.T." for example. He didn't ride the wave, he created his own, so he could never be surpassed. The thing is... he changed his style. His music didn't become dated even by mainstream standards, have you not listened to Ether or any album after that? He slowly abandoned what made him so special to make music that reflects what's popular.
It got to a point where he no longer sounds unique, like he's not even trying anymore. Now he just makes what I call strip club music... he rather talk about ejaculating on women than something actually meaningful. So it's funny you say his music didn't change... it did... and for the worst.

But *I* write for Black queer people, and one of the things we were discussing was editing and marketing, and how my target audience and my publishers target audience aren’t the same. Sometimes my editors will want clarification for terms (like “the itis” for instance) that Black people will understand. So there’s a but if push and pull between them wanting to market toward a whiter audience, and therefore wanting me to explain cultural terms, and me being resistant to doing that because *my* readers don’t need it.

I feel like the Eminem formula, while pterfectionlized with Love the Way you Lie, started actually with Mariah. When she started doing songs with Jay Z and Busta Rhymes and others.

Earliest collaboration I can think of that didn't involve a lady singer for a romantic song is from Nas & Lauryn Hill, If I Ruled the World.
Most of Mariah's collaborations with a rapper had to do with some type of romance, even if it was just a flirtatious party song (not really romantic per se). And, she was often the main feature with a guest rap verse, instead of being limited to the chorus and a few lines

I used to be such a huge fan of B.o.B and I'm not just talking about his hit songs like Nothing on You and Airplanes. I'm talking about his mixtapes No Genre and B.o.B vs. Bobby Ray. He really was something special and I wish he would have stayed the way he was but I think the fame got to his head and he felt too pressured to change. I even bought The Adventures of Bobby Ray Simmons when it first came out. It's so sad to see him turn a fool when he did but he seems to be ok these days.
