49:03 - Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold the phone, is that the Dalek redesign Ray Cusick did back in the late 80s? The one that's never appeared in ANYTHING except apparently this game? The one that NOBODY has ever even heard of? My god, I need to play this game.
Yes it is! Not only are those the Ray Cusick redesign Daleks, but this video game is actually the ONLY appearance of that design in any completed Doctor Who media to this day. The inclusion of that design in this game is arguably what's most notable about it.
It sounds like this game uses sound effects from the mega drive version of "The Terminator" for picking up tokens, the voice clip used for getting hurt is from predator 2 on mega drive, also alien 3 (and predator 2 explosion sound which ends with a xenomorph dying sound) and a sound from rick dangerous 2!
At first I was really hyped at the very idea of this game. Then I saw the gameplay. The Sonic Screwdriver is a scientific instrument not a water pistol.
The music could have been better for one thing. The intro music was good and the intro itself was pretty awesome, but the in-game music doesn't sound very "Whoish" Plus at the time this game came out, I was already sick of platform shooters. They had been done to death on the Amiga at that point
If THAT is enough to stop you from being "really hyped," you're setting your standards unreasonably high. Just because you can shoot with a scientific instrument doesn't automatically make it "a water pistol." I'm pretty sure that that thing is not shooting water. Besides, a laser can be used as both a scientific instrument and a weapon. Not to mention, the Doctor has used the Sonic Screwdriver as a welder and a detonator, so making it able to shoot is not as farfetched of an idea as you're making it out to be. The developers probably needed a way for the Doctor to defend himself, so they mapped that to his tool, which had already been shown to have a variety of uses on the television series.
@@satan3959 The music is already good as is. It's pretty standard action music for a British-developed Amiga game of this time period, so you too are setting your standards unreasonably high. The music does sound very "Whoish." It's reminiscent of Dudley Simpson and Keff McCulloch's scores from the television series. Are you sure we're watching the same show? If you were "already sick of platform shooters," that's your problem, not the game's. And it's not that "they had been done to death on the Amiga at that point." Developers probably just knew that the genre was popular and worked with the majority of audiences, so if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
The Amiga was always very graphics capable (and gave us the Video Toaster) , but that is just plain awesome! And I'm going to have the digitized Doctor Who Theme in my head all night, hope you're proud of yourself!
Personally I thought/think this game is excellent, there is amazing attention to detail which is appreciated if you happen to be an (old show) Dr Who fan like myself. Since I got me an A1200 again I have this game saved in my WHD load favourites because it's great. Back in the day I played it with cheats, this time around I'm trying it without that and boy is it deadly! It's looks great as well so I'm surprised there is kinda some negative reaction by people on here, me and my brother loved this game back in the day and I still do. I have no clue how I will get to the end like IronClaw has!
I’ve recently been playing the DOS version on internet archive, but I couldn’t get past London because I don’t know what the “english manual” is. Can someone please explain what that is? I really want to play through the whole game.
need help here, too! i think there's a result on the front page of google that has the dos manual (i think) if that helps. line it up with the amiga's visual manuals and it'll probably work
Can't believe people crying about the use of the sonic screw driver as a gun! WTF! If you were making a Dr Who game what else would you decide to turn into his weapon? It's a computer game FFS, it makes sense even if that wasn't how it was in the TV show. You could hardly hand him an AK47 now could you? Mind you why not lol.
You could just say he's attached some kind of energy weapon to the sonic screwdriver & say it's powered by the screwdriver. Problem solved. Although, I think the real reason people winge about it is because, just like Batman, people have an aneurysm if the Doctor even _LOOKS_ at a gun the wrong way.
Just to brag, I did complete this game back in the ealry 90s and used no cheats! I did it because I was fan and was determined to see the Skaro level. I definitely wouldn't have worked so damn hard for weeks over any other game. It's about the only time I have ever had friends amazed by my awesome gaming skills! Usually I'm the first to fall into a spike pit on the first level of any platformer!
agreed this game is flipping hard, although i think not impossible without cheats - it's just a matter of 'learning' your way through the game, which means playing it a lot.
The first Doctor up most for a rumble if you ask me. Just look at The Romans story where he his laughing and giggling while locked in mortal combat with a would-be assassin!
I remember playing this game years ago I was not really a doctor who fan at the time but still loved the game. it was only until they brought doctor who back in 2005 I became a fan of the tv series so looking back now it seems the game was flawed as in the tv series the doctor never carries a gun and opposes violence but in this game you shoot and kill anything that moves
49:05 you have to save...humans...on SKARO?! It would make more sense if it was a Thal or time lords you had to rescue. Did the Daleks decide to abduct some humans and take them back to their own planet? Probably for cruel experimenting!
If memory serves me right, JAMES BOND AND OLIVER REED WERE NEVER GOOD SINGERS = invincibility to fire (but you must reach London first and can still lose lives by falling!) :D
I liked this game as a boy- fun, but yes, nearly impossible. I only beat the second boss once without cheating, almost by accident with outriders. My version was a re-release I think, by Alternative software rather than Admiral who did this one. The bit in the intro with the daleks' speech didn't appear in my version! :-( This should have been an adventure rather than blast everything in sight, that's not the Doctor at all!
I admit that I have almoust none knowledge about Doctor Who. Only things I know is some reverence & jokes in other videos like Linkara's reviews. I'm a little bit sad of this, since I have a feeling I'm missing a'lot as an fan of different fantasy stories & series.

"I toss grenades now. Grenades are cool."
HAHA
The graphics and music are quite good here. Baker was my favorite of the original Doctors as well.
At first I was really hyped at the very idea of this game. Then I saw the gameplay.

@Stefano Pavone I very much doubt that.

This game is BEGGING for a remake.
Watching the Doctor slowly blast a dinosaur in a sewer on a hover craft sure reminds me of the TV series.
Played this on Amiga 1200, must've been about 30 years ago, wow! I expecially liked how you could collect jelly babies for health.
Skaro 46:22
Planet Of Daleks
Final Boss: Davros

amiga games are badass..love that hand-drawn graphics
Pretty much all games have hand drawn graphics?
Ah, what a nostalgia rush! Cheers for posting! Best game ever made. And yes, I did complete it without cheating!
6:20 might as well get the advertising over with...
When I was a child, I had this game for Amiga but I didn't know what was Doctor Who...now I understand why I love this TV series 😏😏
14:10 Was that a mime...with a gun?!
Yea, but the Doctor, especially the third and fourth, did not hesitate to get physical and kick some ass.
The song at the beginning is trippy! love it
@Noah Tabraham Ok? What's your point of replying on a 10 years old comment? Are you saying that i didn't watch the series after all this time?
I’ve recently been playing the DOS version on internet archive, but I couldn’t get past London because I don’t know what the “english manual” is. Can someone please explain what that is? I really want to play through the whole game.

Thanks for showing me this game, looks good 🙂👍🏻going to add it to the Amiga500 mini.
It's not a gun, it's the sonic screwdriver. I don't know why it shoots lasers now.
those gfx are awesome
46:14 Pity they couldnt spell Congratulations. I remember this game well. Very challenging. Thanks for posting.

wow its amazing how the amiga could pull of audio of the daleks like its a n64 as n64 had carts but still sounded alright.
Remember that episode of Doctor Who where the doctor drove a space shopping trolley?
Just to brag, I did complete this game back in the ealry 90s and used no cheats!

This game plays a lot like the terminator on megadrive. Even the sound effects sound the same when you collect the tokens.
Sylvester McCoy's best titles sequence ;-D
Played this game as a kid, Couldnt get passed the second level :(
12:30 Big fat Dalek!
Wouldnt a retro remake of this with all docs be great?
The doctor's pretty violent.
Should have been released on Super Nintendo.
Well done sir. I finished this, on the dire ZX Spectrum conversion mind. God it was difficult to enjoy.
I found a way to play this online, but I have no idea what the controls are so I keep dying D:
I still have my Amiga and the Full Game in the Orig Box
Was gonna sell it at some point :)
Amiga ftw!
05:53 - Product placement in a Beeb licensed product?
Not seen this for years :) makes me want to get my old Amiga out of the loft. The game was hard as shit mind, but there is a cheat.
Parkour Doctor :D
agreed this game is flipping hard, although i think not impossible without cheats - it's just a matter of 'learning' your way through the game, which means playing it a lot.
Although it would've sold as well I can buy Pertwee jumping around form rooftop to rooftop and blasting Daleks and Orgrons more than Tom.
odd that I never heard of this game existing before .
holy shit the memories
The first Doctor up most for a rumble if you ask me. Just look at The Romans story where he his laughing and giggling while locked in mortal combat with a would-be assassin!
interesting. i didnt know you got doctor who games on amiga.
Whoa!, those guys really loved Doctor Who!.
BTW, they might have been british, because of the Euro disney joke XD.
5:06 WTF! I really wish I knew of that as a kid, no internet faqs back then.
I remember reading about it in an Amiga magazine. That's the way we got our tips and cheats back in the day.
Memories!
It was hard had it for the Amiga 600 tough game folks.
Much better than the commodore64 version! I'm getting this one instead!
Doctor Who: The Doctor Fuckin' MURDERS Everyone!
Sheesh, talk about missing the point of the story.
I remember playing this game years ago I was not really a doctor who fan at the time but still loved the game. it was only until they brought doctor who back in 2005 I became a fan of the tv series so looking back now it seems the game was flawed as in the tv series the doctor never carries a gun and opposes violence but in this game you shoot and kill anything that moves
wow. at the time that intro is fucking awesome
I had completely forgotten that Kodak was a thing.
What do you mean?
Elven rapter , you dont need to kill almost anyone, you can just jump over them. Risking some health loss though... so...
I want to play this now.
It looks awesome, really that hard? thanks for the heads up
If only they did this for the Mega Drive
Yeah...We all wish.
Hmm, this game reminds me of the later Shadow of the Beast games for some reason.
I had a demo of this, was too hard for me at the time. Shame, I was a big Dr Who fan!
oh man this is a great game never seen it before I wishit was released by nintendo this is cool first time I see this game
49:05 you have to save...humans...on SKARO?! It would make more sense if it was a Thal or time lords you had to rescue. Did the Daleks decide to abduct some humans and take them back to their own planet? Probably for cruel experimenting!
Knowing Davros, that's precisely why.
Because he picked The 4th Dr as his character
Why is Ed-209 in Dr who ?
Rather splendid game.
If memory serves me right, JAMES BOND AND OLIVER REED WERE NEVER GOOD SINGERS = invincibility to fire (but you must reach London first and can still lose lives by falling!) :D
No, that's infinite lives, invincibility is TRUE I AM GUILTY OF INTERFERENCE JUST AS YOU ARE GUILTY OF FAILING TO USE YOUR GREAT POWERS
Classic

Yeah, I know about the game now. I made that comment a while ago.

Yeah, but he rarely killed anyone, and he only ever did it when he was left with no other choice.
Which Amiga was this on
I played it on my A600. As far as I remember it would work on any Amiga with at least 1MB of ram.
Colors are so Atari ST
Watching this gameplay video > Watching Hell Bent
13:04 - Dem nails.
was amiga is made of nintendo or sega?
2bluegems .i dalek productionAmiga is made of Commodore
ho do you know your just a music maker of godzilla music video and yet its true
Such a great IP and to this day they can't make a decent game
What about Lego Dimensions Doctor Who?
@@elwoodjacobs4353 Isn't that just a toys to life mod? How would that work on a PC?
You didn't specify strictly PC games.
@@elwoodjacobs4353 ok, I have a series X and a PS5 too.
The game pretty much sucked dalek balls, but the music was absolutely awesome.
Dude you should do another longplay in 2 player mode please.
