Jeep Gladiator Truck Bed Drawer System by DECKED for WAYALIFE EVO Overland Build

  • One of the last and maybe bets mods we installed on our Jeep JT Gladiator before heading out to the Nitto JL/JT Experience was something that would help us to store, organize and keep all the gear in the back of truck bed, dry and secure. I am of course talking about a DECKED Truck Bed Storage System and with two long and waterproof drawers that can hold 200 lbs. of gear a piece and a low profile deck that will still allow you to carry even more stuff up on top, this thing is totally BADASS! Of course, one of the best parts about DECKED is that it's MADE IN THE USA! In this short video, you'll get to see just how easy it was for us to install. We hope you enjoy.
    NOTE: Because I've had more than a few people ask, the cordless ratchet I use in this video is a Milwaukee M12. I have a link below that you can buy one Amazon as well.

    I fully enjoyed this. All the information you shared with respect to bit size and reminding people not to tighten down bolts until everything is in place was great. And then going back to show why you did that, to further assist with committing that information to memory. It is far too easy to overlook the little things. Great video.

    I like the deck part, but you have lost a lot of space after install. it's the same reason i'm not putting a storage system in my 2dr, anyway I do it, it adds weight and lose space. having a 2dr space and weight are at premium. don't get me wrong it looks good for securing your stuff.

    • @Th3unknownuser111
      @Th3unknownuser111 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Once you add a rack you make up for the lost space. Same goes for a camper shell... You make up for the missing space.

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      After we install a RTT, we plan on strapping our spare on top of the deck. Without it, our spare would sit in the bed and we'd lose most of our storage space. While SOME space has been lost, it's FAR from the "lots" you seem to think. We're able to carry all the gear we would normally carry in our Wrangler PLUS have room to spare. But then, you can believe what you want. :)

    If this can support the weight of a quad or 2 dirtbikes/dualsports, these drawers have seemed like a great product since I saw a system in the Gladiator at the auto show. The show person didn't know the weight capacity when I asked. For those who still want a deep bed, sides can be built up, see-thru or not. For even more stowage, a roofrack and top box/bag can offer HUGE capacity for this little crewcab.

    Love the truck but now it's a 4WD, raised station wagon. Could of just got a cool van and had more storage and seating when not hauling stuff. There's no real difference. A newer van would probably be better overall. Without a really useable bed, it's not really a pickup anymore. The more people and businesses try to be "different", the more things are returning to what we had 40 or 50 years ago. The newer stuff just has electronics, computers and an endless payment (debt forever) system.

    Had mine for about a year, you won't necessarily use the feature, but can take a ton on the back (more than the ute can, a Nissan Navara NP300, like your Frontiers, but later model) and you can load any kind of mess on it and it washes off without encroaching into the drawers. Everyone thinks mud, which is usually stuck to the off-road go kart, but I often lug around rolls of fibreglass fireproofing blanket, and man, you know real fast if those fibres find their way into camping gear (that lives in my narrower drawer full time). Never had an ingress issue with either.

    you lost like 80% of the gladiators bed space with that deck system.... wasn't the point of getting the Gladiator to have MORE space than the standard JL ?

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL - you do lose some space but 80% is a bit of a stretch. Once we install a RTT, we plan on strapping our spare on top of the DECKED. Without it, our spare would eat up MOST of our storage space. As it is, we're still carrying all the gear we normally do in our JL and STILL have room to spare in the drawers. But hey, you can believe what you want to believe. :)

      I dunno, we're able to safely and securely store all the things we need in the drawers and ammo cans and with room to spare. The drawers make it easy to access everything too and the best part is, we can carry a ton more gear on TOP of the deck as well.

    Do you own/buy these Jeeps or does Chrysler give them to you?
    If you're buying them may we know how you can possibly afford a new 50,000 dollar truck (before mods) every couple of years. Perhaps you discovered a previously untapped silver vein in Carson City.

    Not bad - Now imagine if that whole system was flush with the bed, like a bed cover. More space, without wasting space, and not so complicated. All-in-all 7/10 rating, would recommend for long haulers.

      @wayalife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure it's just me but I'm really happy that it doesn't go all the way up as I now have sides that help to hold more gear in place that I strap to the top of the deck.

  • @HDFoxra
    @HDFoxra 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This looks cool n all... but man it seems like a TON of space is just... wasted with this... i'd say about 1/4 if not a full third of the bed is just.... wasted space now.. and i don't mean just because of its size, but because of all the weird angles and plastic bits just... taking up space..
    Not to mention, ALOT of that thing feels like it should have been pre-assembled at factory... and.... drilling holes into it? just to add a plate? while the other three holes are pre-existing? another weirdness to me....
    It looks awesome, and sounds awesome.. but I think i'd rather just reach into the back of the bed.. not all that hard to do, just not as convenient.

    Nice way of loosing space in a truck bed! Easy, in that same space you're sacrificing is a good 40% off of loading space. If you just put those drawers alone and squeeze them to a side, you'll see around them and in between them that 30 some to 40 % of empty space for the Deck framing. They're prolly working on that space lost in future projects I guess. For those who can sacrifice that space, is a great "modo" of achieving it!

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL - clearly, it's not for you. I love how I can securely lock up my gear and get easy access to everything I need. I also love how I can STILL carry a ton of stuff on top of it - up to 2,000 lbs if I needed to. But, that's just me :)

    You'll really enjoy that decked system. I have one for my 2018 Tacoma. Just keep in mind that things often shift and move around. I had a screw driver prop up vertically in the drawer and couldn't open it. I had to take the top half off to get the screw driver out.

      @@Future-Preps35 I was on the Rubicon when I needed my tools and I ended up putting the box back in. Realized I had a screwdriver in my pocket. Decided I would just place it inside the decked until we got to camp. Never thought it would get stuck like that. I have a buddy that had a similar thing happen with a bag of tent pegs... Start going over whoops at 40mph and things move no matter what.

      If you say so. Seems that we're able to store all the gear we need nice, locked up, dry and secure and with room to spare. This is to say nothing about the additional 2000 lbs of gear we can STILL pack on top of the deck.

    My only concern is that the drawers might be too shallow/skinny for a lot of every day hauling of stuff. Kind of think it'd be better to have one huge drawer that can be divided using the modular dividers.

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  ปีที่แล้ว

      While that might sound like a good idea, the amount of weight in that one large drawer could be enormous. I doubt it could be designed to hold it up. That said, I have not had any problems with this as is but then, that's just me.

    cool. I am OCD. Cannot stand how the bed rails you bought are not in alignment with the cab nor are they at roof height which might have allowed you to have a seamless roof-bed rail system should you have wanted that. Similar to how a roof canopy follows a trucks natural lines, then you can add roof racks in combination with a canopy rack.

    • @mobgma
      @mobgma 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @darkjedi351 the roof rack would not be level with the bed rack.
