    I think the reason they are taking so long on an end update is simply because they want to make something that won't negativly affect whatever they choose to do years down the line. I vaguely remember them talking about minecraft being around for years to come, so I think they just want to be careful on what they add to make sure it is high quality and won't regret it later.

      True, but i think i can safely say minecraft is lack of post-end gameplay. The major thing about it is just elytra, so hopefully they update it soon.

    The thing I dislike the most about these shaders is how they handle light sources other than the sun, these blocks have a light level of 10-15 or something but only 2 blocks ahead of them are actually lit up

      Ive noticed that with Bedrock RTX shaders: a lot of blocks are... really, really dim. Soul lanterns and torches are often so dim they might as well not be luminous at all!

      I prefer the dim look, it makes my bases feel like an actual base that I’m living in, the light lvl is still the same so things won’t spawn or anything

    Statistically, the majority of Minecraft's playerbase has never even gone to the End... One might use that as an argument against an End Update, but in my opinion, an End Update might motivate people to actually _want_ to reach The End for once.
    If they implemented better ways to tell the player how to reach the Stronghold it might make it more accessible to newer players.

      Honestly, I agree that they need to make it a little easier to get to the stronghold.
      The main reason I can ever find it is because I play bedrock edition, where they always seem to spawn underneath a village

      @@DanDaFreakinMan There is a difference between going to the end to get an elytra and never going to the end _at all..._ But either way, the End NEEDS more incentive to go there.
      Statistically most of the playerbase doesn't even go to the stronghold, let alone beat the Ender Dragon.

    Y'know, I actually agree in a way, I do believe that some minecraft builds are quite overcomplicated for little reason. My main issue with his comments was that it felt as if he was insulting people for building in a way he didn't like or found dumb, but I can understand that I took that it was just a way to express how these complicated techniques aren't the only thing that makes builds impressive. I still think it came across a bit too mean, but I can respect the message he was trying to send.
    The end update hints usually just feel like cope though.

      This is a very mature take on his way of addressing things. You seem like a person I would enjoy talking to. Good job on expressing your opinion in an open and understanding way, while still putting the opinion firmly out there.
      This shouldn't be something one has to acknowledge, it should be the norm but in my experience it's far too rare nowadays on the internet, or at least I do not see it as much. Maybe that's on me, maybe not, but regardless, thank you for showing me that some people on the internet still have both book smarts and emotional intelligence.

    I was thinking about the stronghold earlier today, I find it really weird that literally the structure that's supposed to be the "final dungeon" is just a bunch of hallways with barely any mobs (because of the torches, also there's only one spawner) and also the loot isn't even great (I know these used to be the only way to get apples for a brief period, but that's definitely not the case now)
    Like the trial chambers they added just makes the difference all the more jarring

      Not true: Notch would also drop an apple. Strongholds were the most _realistic_ way for players to get apples.

      The strongholds are over 10 years old, if there were to be an end update. I'm sure the would change them.

      It’s an ancient structure meant to be the in between of the main game and the final boss. The strongholds are fine and lower tension, the boss is what needs changed.

    Strongholds and Mineshafts are outdated and it shows.
    At least with the Mineshaft, they have the Rascal as an option so there's a possibility we see that update coming in the next few years.

    Ever since the new bookshelves which you can fill with books and function with redstone, it made me wonder if perhaps the stronghold might get updated to include a couple where you remove a book revealing a secret passageway to a hidden part of the structure. So I can an update changing the strongold in some way. Also the fletching table was only ever given a use on April 1 with a joke snapshot along with many for the poisonous potato and a dimension to go with it. So really, anything could happen.

    I think the fletching table should be basically the Legend of Zelda Totk arrow fuse mechanic, basically craft an arrow and a blaze rod and then you have fire arrows without flame enchantment, or the new wind charges to make a wind charge arrow or a arrow that shots Farther, fuse slime and a arrow to make a ricochet arrow you know what I mean.

    I’m still waiting for a combat parity update. Not necessarily a large combat update, but do something to fix the disparities. Right now 3 forms of combat exist, 1.8 which relies on sprint resetting and knockback, 1.9 which relies on axe crits and timing, and bedrock which is like 1.8 but instead of having a lot of complicated techniques like w tapping and block hitting, it’s just sorta spam and have your hits register once per second and try and run out of their angle of view lmao. We need Java and bedrock to have the same thing, as right now it’s all wack.

      I absolutely agree, in my opinion now that Caves and Cliffs is (after the bundle drops) FINALLY completely finished, I see them trying to bring parity sooner rather than later (i think 1.22-23 will be a major parity update)

      The combat snapshots are pretty good and a mid way point from 1.8 to 1.9. Me and my friends started a survival server and used Combatify alongside world generation mods, it is pretty good for both PvE and PvP.

    On the whole building thing:
    I’m a pretty good builder and am the de-facto builder on my friend’s server. My personal issue with the new style of building is that it’s a lot of large scale creative only stuff. Also, a lot of the cool builds I see use shaders and I don’t. I prefer to make all my builds survival friendly which means: easy to gather resources, no super crazy shapes, avoiding particularly “weird” block choices, making things to player scale, and keeping stuff “Minecrafty” (e.g. I make chest rooms and smelting rooms, not primarily decorative spaces like living rooms and kitchens). That’s not to say I build in the classic style with primarily oak planks and cobblestone or build like Toycat, but I think I’ve stuck a balance between the new painterly style and the classic functionalist style that works for me. Obviously this is all preference and to each their own, but that’s my two cents on the topic. Also this may not be relevant, but I am an artist that also likes architecture and interior design. I feel like that background shows when I build in game.
    Edit: By " 'weird' block choices", I mean that some blocks are hard to suspend your disbelief with, especially when you're up close at player scale. People choose weird blocks, because they're focused more on color and not the material they're trying to represent. When people do this to the extreme they're basically painting, but it can be done more subtlety when you take both color and texture into account. For example, I used honeycomb blocks in a Rococo inspired gilded ceiling. It works cause the block can pass as fancy gilding (imo) and it's high up enough that it's under less scrutiny.

      i think im kinda similar to this with building.
      i want build interesting stuff, but i also try to not to overcomplicate things and i avoid things that would be tedious, because i want to build in a way that's fun to me.
      i'll try to go for interesting shapes and nice colours, i also like making cool patterns, but i avoid things like crazy detailing or gradients or texturing, etc (unless i can see clearly that it will enhance the build)

      I feel like "modern" builders try to apply art principles to builds which isn't a bad thing most of the time but I feel like one you start adding "shading" to build your going too far Minecraft already has lighting it's simple lighting but it's still lighting if you want to more realistic shading just use shaders
      adding shading to a build is the minecraft equivalent of when old games that had no lighting or very simple lighting changed the textures of the models themselves to add shading

      This might be a hot take, but imo using Shaders to show off builds is cheating. They make everything look 10x better than they would without shaders. You can have a modest wooden shack, but with shaders it looks like a professional build.
      The best builds are the ones that look fantastic even with standard graphics, and I will die on this hill!😤

      my problem with modern minecraft builders, is people will often use way too many gradients to the point where it makes buildings look too cluttered, I just prefer things to a bit more cleaner personally
      though I do like build things a little bit larger than life because I find 1:1 scale a bit too limiting and small at times
      and as for room purposes, I do a mix of decorative and survival function minecraft rooms in my builds
      I don't really use fancy shaders as much these days

      I think that one valid approach of "shading" in minecraft could be the landscaping, since hills and mountainsides have different vegetation densities based on how light and humidity reaches the hills, you could put more trees in a north-facing hill comparing with other hills facing south for example.

    I do hope they start improving on things we already have. It's been nice getting all of this completely new content, but some of the older structures are really starting to show their age. They should add some systems that tie into the Trial Chambers... maybe keys for chests in the stronghold with better loot? like maybe stronghold chests have a massive chance for good enchanted books.

      I don't think strongholds should have much significant loot. They are already a mandatory structure needed for going to the end. The loot should be in structures that actually need more loot (like ancient cities and woodland mansions)

      Because it implies that they're thinking about it, This is a very random mention and it feels unnatural given the company's previous behavior and it isn't the only reason we have to believe that the stronghold is likely to receive a change which makes this mention stand out more.

    The stronghold is an essential game structure only insofar as it houses the precious end portal.
    Aside from that, there’s no challenge or anything special to it. It has an inconveniently placed silver fish spawner that you have to break or be endlessly harassed and isn’t turned off by light (I placed a torch right on it, kept spawning). It also has random invested blocks that create more silverfish.
    The loot is relatively low effort and lack luster and the only other challenge it has is mobs that spawned from darkness.
    It’s a lackluster structure if it’s intended to be a pre-endgame challenge. It’s more so just annoying to navigate because it can get mazy and you’re only looking for the end portal and nothing else.

      keep in mind that the stronghold was added OH GOD more then...13 years ago I think? a long time. it has been unchanged since then. so of course it is pretty outdated. so don't be too hard on it because of being lackluster, as that used to be comparably good loot given what everything else had to offer back then.
      and chances are, the updates have been the way they are recently because while doing this, they are working on the end. behind every update, there may be some effort in there for the endgame...or, I hope at least.
      I do hope they change the stronghold. and the end. I would love to see it.

    I think the end update is coming, but they learned from caves and cliffs to let a project team get something like that ready before they announce it. And a structure upgrade for the stronghold would be a great step on the road

    I would love an End Update, and I think a lot of the Minecraft community would as well. I think that the biggest reason for this is that everyone remembers just how good the Nether Update ended up being and the expectation is that the End would get a treatment similar to the Nether. The Nether Update was great because it touched so many parts of the game and it had something really good for you no matter what kind of Minecraft player you were, and with the End being such a relatively blank canvas there is just so much potential to do the same. I think that the Nether Update sets a really high bar for an End Update so it makes sense for Mojang to take their time to really flesh out ideas and have a really good sense of what they want to do with the End before going down that path, but I think that the potential for an amazing update is there.
    I think that the only barrier to doing an End Update is that Mojang realized that many players rarely (if ever) actually go to the Nether, so they didn't experience much of the new Nether Update content (Mojang devs quoted a statistic that its only something like 50%) and they probably don't want to do the same thing with an End Update (where there are probably statistics that tell them something similar). I think that the better way to look at it would be that an End Update is an opportunity where they can make it so that more people actually want to go to the End and experience a Dragon Fight, End Cities, and any new content that they can come up with.

    I just think it's unnecessary to insult more complex (maybe sometimes more abstract) building techniques to bring up people who don't use them. You already do incredible work demonstrating your out-there ideas, more classic style builds, and random mega projects. That's an equally valid and interesting way to build, and there are many others. It's a form of creative expression. You don't need to say painting is weird or arbitrary to make sculptors feel better.
    No hate intended, though! I've been watching (across a few different youtube accounts) for many years now. You were one of my childhood favorite youtubers, and I still watch you now (I'm around 18!) Much love toycat :D! Just some thoughts/criticism.

    i think toycat kind of has the same philosophy towards building as tommyinnit as silly as it sounds, tommy has talked about just liking old minecraft builds like massive cobble and oak castles, and just simpler block pallets. there is a beauty to the uniqueness of the classic minecraft build design before gradient blocks

    Sounds more like a hint at a "Structure REDUX" update for 1.22.
    Updating ALL old structures. Not just strongholds. But also woodland mansions, water temples, jungle temples, desert temples, mineshafts, monster spawner rooms, nether fortress, pigland bastions. With the new trial vaults. . . those probably would be expanded on in 1.22.
    Lots of new blocks to work with like chiseled bookshelves bamboo wood variants, chains, ect. The older the structure, the bigger the block pallet difference you now have to work with.

      Not all structures need an update, some of them are fine. Desert temples already got an update in 1.20, bastions are still good even though they could use vaults, ancient cities and trail ruins just need more loot.
      End cities should be saved for the end update

    I feel like the biggest hint of an end update is more the minecraft event they're hosting literally called the Ender Cup, going through a lot of updates with the games and having the finale be set in the end than the 1 article about the stronghold, but you do you

      The Ender Cup is literally just a generic name that's "minecrafty." It means nothing.

      @@samlewis6487 look at the games though. Each game progresses through 8 major MC updates, starting from PKW representing Alpha, through to Ace Race as 1.18. And that part isn’t speculation either, they explicitly mention it in the description of each game. Then, after all those 8 game, dodgebolt is set in the end. Now, obviously, the end is the end of MC (for some), and dodge bolt is the end of MCC. But, there isn’t really that much of a reason for Noxcrew to change that randomly.

    The nether update was incredible, so something similar for the end islands would be amazing, but I know that mojang said that that update was hard for them to produce on time and they don't want to do it again but I think most can agree with me that we can wait a little longer for something like that with new biomes a new dangerous but op structure like the bastion, and enderite like netherite.

    The last update to the end was around 2015 when The Shulkers and End Islands was added so it's a great idea for an End Update and to update the stronghold. They could add a bit more challenge to the Stronghold. Monster Spawner rooms, rooms with Brewing Stands, Crafting Tables, etc., room with a farm, and maybe a few rooms could also include Pillagers/Illagers trapped in the jail cells or wandering around.

    I think something they need to update are the rest of the structures. The ones like the jungle temple are as abandoned as they look and don't have anything revelant for it's rarity. The other is the spawners that pop in the world, they long become inrelevant with automated mob traps, maybe they should become a smaller version of the trial chambers.

      Jungle temples aren't something you're supposed to find, it's just a fun little reward if you do run into it. It could have more (traps should have poison arrows!), but nothing too crazy

    5:37 this idea also still leaves alot of room too with it being making entire new arrows rather than upgrading former arrows
    you could replace the stick with a blaze/breeze rod, or even the feather with a wind charge to make it fly faster

    The End is like a dried-up sea in space. You know the saying, "we know more about the surface of the moon than the bottom of the ocean"? The End is kind of both. You have a reptile, elongated dudes, and even crustaceans in the End. There are boats, and chorus fruit kinda seems like something you'd find underwater. Plus the official Essential guide to Minecraft from like 2013 calls the End "a spit of sand floating in the void".

    When they do add functionality to the fletching table, it's probably going to be not what anyone expects. Most people think it'll be about arrows, when who knows? Maybe all new types of bows or putting feathers in hats. 😂

      The smithing table dissapointed me because that reason. I expected it to have a more "smithing related" function aside being able to upgrade diamond, something like the banner table concept but with armor and tool casts that allowed you to reshapen only the netherite, gold and iron tools (metals) to give them a custom shape, such as a katana blade cast that allowed you to turn a sword into a katana, with some functionality enhances and trade-offs

    The way ibxyoycat explains his opinions about advanced building techniques is similar to someone complaining why a painting of water does not have blue, why the sun is not yellow with rays drawn out as lines are not there, why the ground is not brown and why the grass is not green.
    Him admitting to having a bias is greatly appreciated.
    Because it is valid for him to express his opinions alongside the information he is going through.
    He may not find the idea of using buttons as stones appealing. But he has been playing the game for many years.
    Minecraft is a sandbox, and with that, there are different niches people find more interesting than others.

    First of all: Happy Birthday!
    Second: The limiting factor in an End Update is that barely any players go to the End, let alone the End Islands. I think we tend to forget this, since we are watching a man who laminated his End and used it for mass deportations, but very few players actually go the End. Bedrock tracks statistics on achievements, and you can see on unpopular the End really is. Mojang is not going to make an update for a dimension half the player base may not even know exists.

    I think they should add creatures to the end that can help you explore it. Like flying things that you can grab onto and glide across the islands. Maybe you lure it in with chorus fruit or something, maybe even tame it somehow.
    Maybe even small mountable dragon thingies like in Avatar lol. It’s already a dimension where dragons exist… play into that.

    I think a good way to try to make the end update, would be with the intent of players reviving portions of the end. If the end is a wasteland due to over farming and resource gathering, why not make a way for us to fix what the ancient builders broke.
    It wouldn't even need to be the same as it would have been, since we would be starting from scratch.
    We could use both sniffers and brushes to make it happen, expanding the uses. And, to make sure it wouldn't be the same pitfall as just 2 flowers, it could be 2 flora per biome. Maybe planting them in the end slowly spreads a grass or something across the one biome, and you would have to be there to ensure it's ability to spread.
    I think that would genuinely be fun to do, and it would help stay to the lore that already exists for the end in minecraft.

    I like gradients. They look good and I sometimes use them. However, a build does not need a gradient to look good so no one should feel pressured to need to use them and no one should feel pressured to not use them.

    An upgrade to the strongholds would be good, or really upgrades to the older structures in general to make them more appealing. I was thinking earlier how woodland mansions for example just don't feel like they're worth the rarity these days, with a lot of subpar loot, totems being much more conveniently available from raids, the illagers don't respawn and so on. Trails and Tales retrofitted some older structures to have archaeology, and more retrofits to older content beyond just adding armor trims would make exploration more interesting.

    i think that they could do an end update, but in two parts like caves and cliffs. one could update the stronghold, then the next update the end itself. they would also have to do them six months apart like the caves and cliffs updates so that they have more time to work on such a big update, while also keeping the updates close together, because an updated stronghold and the old end for an entire year doesnt really make sense. if they were to be a year apart, the surprise for the next update would be ruined, and the community would not be happy.

    Sounds like they are drawing a comparison with the deep dark, currently all we have is the structure around a portal, just like when they first added the strongholds. I'm betting we get the new dimension(or some other portal-like functionality) not an end update.

    Adding fletching table functionality would go great with an end update. With components you can have one component be potion tips and still be able to have other arrows as well. They could also add dragon breath arrows to make up for removing a use of dragon breath. Have a bunch of end items used to customize weapons too. It makes the end worth it without tying too many things behind a boss.
    Just make the whole end update about customization and personalization. I feel like the end should focus on combat related things anyways as if you're fighting a boss, it's most likely for combat.
    I would also take 2 years. Have a small update like a stronghold update but work on this. Still meet the quota while also giving more time.

    also this is sort of a stretch but bundles are closely related to shulker boxes in the fact they hold more items, so it could also be something to note, because minecraft tends to try to "link" their updates together.

    To me, it sounds more like they are gearing up to release an update for the ancient city portal, all the April fools tests have also been geared towards a new dimension, specifically related to the warden too.
    I know they said they didn't want to add a new dimension until the current ones are in a good state, but this could have changed, or they might not even think the end needs an update, and it's meant to be bleak there, as mentioned in recent interviews.
    Plus, they could also go back to updating the end, if the new dimension update is a success.

    I like your building style. Mine is pretty similar and I don’t feel the need to do all this fancy stuff. It has an ugly quality which circles around and makes it look better. It feels like how mojang builds structures, rather than how a TH-camr would place a build in their thumbnail to get people to click.

    If they do the end update, it could open the door for a new 4th dimension. Remember, they said that there weren't gonna be any new dimensions until the three that currently exist are much improved.
    Maybe the sky Dimension that Notch confirmed a few years back will be added after the end update? But better than it was? I already have a bunch of ideas of hiw the sky dimension could be improved if it were to be added post-1.22.
    (No, im not talkin bout the aether, that's a mod my friends, there's a million reasons why its likely gonna stay that way)

    My best guess is that they’re reserving updating the End for the right time. Updates like Aquatic, Village & Pillage, Nether and Caves & Cliffs brought massive changes to the game in such a short time despite being over a few years.
    1.19, 1.20 and 1.21 definitely aren’t as grand as those updates but they serve really well as a chill time between the next mega update.

    Well, one thing that I'll say is the end has literally received no new feature since the "combat update" in February 2016 (unless you want to count the snapshot where phantoms would spawn in the end). With the one major update per year that Mojang does, if they don't announce any end features for 1.22 that the end will go over 10 years without anything new whatsoever.

    the fletching table would be nice to update in a combat centered update...
    you add a new weapon with a new mechanic, a new combat challenge of sorts like a structure to fight different mobs and get loot, then update the bow/arrows to add a new way of fighting those mobs and make it more interesting taking on this new challenge...

    How much more stuff overworld needs? There have been tons of undeground exploration content added year after year. Trial chambers, archeology and trail ruins, deep dark and ancient cities, amethyst geodes, lush caves, dripstone caves, the entire new cave generation, etc... I am fine with more, but I think at this point at least the underground part of overworld is fine and does not require even more stuff.

    a stronghold update before end update would be ideal. maybe tbe end update could be fractured into 2 parts. also how convenient would it be to have the fletching table get functionality before all this considering arrows are so crucial to the end game

    They ARE WORKING on a new dimension.... they only said they wouldn't ADD a new one until the end is updated..
    I mean, look at the Ancient City... they already made the portal (and made it a completely immovable structure)
    They obviously have a dimension already made and they are in the bug squishing stage while the End update team is working on their own ( to be released first) project.
    I Have been saying for years that the 123 update will be the end Update.
    It's just ironic start counting from the beginning 1 2 3...
    And you update the end.
    In the end.

When they finally add a new dimension, most players will already have an ancient city nearby since it's a pretty old structure, meaning that they don't have to go too far away to have access to the new dimension

      Yeah... no. With the amount of resources it takes to make large scale updates? Your head is really up in the clouds if you think they're capable of working on multiple large scale projects across multiple platforms. Thinking they're already in the bug squasing phase with no teasers or "leaks" is way too generous and not how game development works. Not when they had to to develop the Trial Chambers too in your hypothetical timeline (and polish off the bundle).

You're also not thinking about the fact that the devs are passion-driven and they'll put more time into it than they are supposed to ( still working on it during unpaid personal time )
