    Amazing work.👌 One main thing i've learnt is translating ideas from the mind to a sketch is one of the greatest skills one can hone as it forms your primary tool of expression.

    • @lolamoro
      @lolamoro  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're on a roll hahah, I find that I'm misunderstood a lot when it comes to speaking of my ideas to my tutors so you have to take the pen to the paper a lot as a tool of clarification. It really isn't about being realistic or beautiful, but a communication and expression tool as you said - well put!

    • @nickmuchiri
      @nickmuchiri ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lolamoro Yeah, 💯Very well put. I've often suffered from that at times when i had some really good ideas but struggled to communicate them verbally during presentation so i would have a small sketch on a paper somewhere to communicate that.😅

    Wise tips! Love what you mention about the details and curiosity. That's truly something we need to pull out from ourselves, we don't learn this at Uni. Thanks for sharing these tips :)

    • @lolamoro
      @lolamoro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's probably the most important thing because when you go to an exhibition or get a certain brief you'll be able to make connections you wouldn't make before, so yeah there's a whole world out there to be observed and it's usually really fun to do!

      Yesss!! Well, in my case I moved countries a couple times - not by choice - but I guess that counts. I've only started travelling more in the last year or so, and it's super nice too because now I can see things with different perspectives than I would have if I travelled before Architecture School

      Hi Kevin! That's amazing, what brought you to decide to finish it? I am currently debating myself if I will keep studying to get the full degree or if I'll finish at the 3 years with the Interiors degree....let me know!!

      @@lolamoro honestly, I just went through a major life change and I realized I was in a state of comfort. I felt like I could've finished my degree a while ago and then it hit me that it's never too late. So I applied back a few days ago and luckily I managed to get back in time for the next semester in a few weeks. Now I'm 29, but looking forward to making the most out of my time back on school.

    I have traveled the world seeing some of the most beautiful places for over 4 decades now. Frank Lloyd Wright is my favorite. Out of all the places I have been. Spain is the best for architecture lots of history and very insightful interesting world famous architecture people too from Spain.

      Omg I think the same thing!! Spain is just insane 💕 I loved every bit of my trip to Spain. Hopefully I will go back sometime soon!! Wright really is pretty astonishing, sadly I've only seen his London buildings, I'm dying to visit Falling Water next year!

    The first advice I'd give my 18yo self is: "reconsider it", if not bluntly "run away, idiot" (after 6y of school and 5 of working)

    • @lolamoro
      @lolamoro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hahahhahahhhh I understand, I don't know a single person who doesn't say that! But I also feel like architecture is the best degree just because if how broad it is, like no matter why you chose it there are parts of it that you probably really enjoy, I like modelmaking and designing my presentations, for example. Nevertheless, if you're not into it enough you will hate it because its so much work! But looking back now is there any other degree you would have chosen instead of architecture?

    • @BarAlexC
      @BarAlexC 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lolamoro
      Certainly. I'd pick software engineering. I'd still problem solve, but I'd get paid for it.
      There are multiple problems with architecture. School is just a step, a 4...6 year "tool" to get you to a point. I'm talking about the work afterwards, although the school has its own problems:
      TL;DR: Little money, a lot of stress, little to no professional satisfaction
      1. Money.
      I've talked to people around the world (EU, US, Japan, India). Not a single place has the money proportional to the level of responsability, education or stress. It's one of the worst paid professions if you weight things against each other.
      In Romania, we start at ~85% of what someone starts at McDonald's. After 5 years, I'm at 110%. It's ridiculous! About 75% of the colleagues I went to uni with that I still know about are quitting or have quit already. And I will, too, by the end of this year. And that's with M.Arch (mandatory here).
      When the economy takes a hit, construction is one of the first industries to go down, too, so it's not that stable, either. So it's not great during a boom and definitely horrible during a bust (a lot of older architects around here remember 2008 as a horror story).
      2. Stress.
      At some point, one of our professors has shown us a study claiming we are more stressed out than neuro surgeons (I think based on cortisol levels).
      You have to joggle client, budget, engineers, consultants, constructors, authorities and more often than not, you get caught between a rock and a hard place with all fingers pointed at you, even with aspects that have nothing to do with you. (e.g. an authority does not give an approval, client bashes you, not understanding that they just abuse their power and it has nothing to do with you).
      3. Professional (dis)satisfaction
      Architecture is nothing but a reflection of the society it's built in.
      In order to have good quality architecture, you need a society to have a certain level of culture and openness to ideas. Where I live, people think about it like sports or politics (that they know it). It's like going to the doctor and telling them how to treat you. It's absurd!
      I have adviced high school teens that wanted to pursue architecture to visit multiple architectural practices and talk to the people there. Needless to say, none of them pursued it. It's a romanticized profession and 90% of the work done is not about architecture, but plain paperwork and bureaucracy. There's a lot to say, a lot to rant about, but I think these are the main points.
