Legendary Ocean is the second most important card to my childhood (behind maha vailo) so im so happy to see this episode! Umi control is my go to deck on master duel so its even what got me back into the game after 10 years.
weirdly me too… legendary ocean was always such a whimsical card to me. the art is beautiful and the level reducing is such a cool thing. i too have umi in md
Since water is my favorite element i was ecstatic when i heard of umi support. I always loved the mako tsunami duel w/ joey and his legendary fisherman card just seemed SO COOL. I made my deck based on makos love for the ocean which means only fish, sea serpent and aqua types are allowed (minus 1 or 2 in the extra deck but still water attribute!) And while it might not be meta in any way i still love the interactions with it. Now if only ash blossom was a water/aqua...
I absolutely love the concept of the new mako tsunami cards. They really feel like a ocean deck with ocean effects. Kairyu shin - only one non water monster is allowed, because the rest of the field is flooded by the ocean Jellyfish - it stuns (negate effects) because it produces electricity under water. Kraken - pulls other monsters from out of nowhere into the depth of the ocean and disappears after it (is summoned from the hand and destroys a monster and bounces back to hand afterwards) Whale - allows to swim below the enemys monster line-up and attack the player (allows all water monsters to attack directly).
Interesting fact: When The Legendary Fisherman appeared in anime, Mako Tsunami mentions how much the card reminds him of his father, who (get this), lost his life trying to save people during a storm. Funny bit back then, now remember what happened in July 2022. o7
One of my favorite things about sea stealth 2 is that is can combo with sea stealth attack. Because you can simply banish what you summoned with SS2 with SSA's effect, that means that you pretty much have a free 2 card monster summon/revival, albeit is is a bit slow.
So fun combo with the Levia Dragons. If you use their nuke effects in *aquaactress* of all things, it triggers all your aquarium card effects, meaning you can then revive a fish for every aquarium taken out, and you can search for more Aquariams thanks to Tetra. Aquaactress Daedalus is one of my favorite brickfests :P
You might want to clarify what you mean by fish considering the video. Sure the aquactresses are fish but they aren't *fish* and they and the aquariums specify *aqua* and not *fish*.
My first yugioh deck was built from the Fury of the Deep structure deck. As was common in the first years of yugioh, I had about a 65 card deck that wouldn't last one second against the meta today
16:40 Nova: "Still, I think it would've been funny if they named this card Heavy-Strom. Come on, designers, you can't let _me_ out-pun you." Me: "Really? You would've named this card Heavy-Strom and not... *_MERMAILSTROM!"_*
If I had a nickel for every "Fortress" monster who got a "Citadel" upgraded version, I'd have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
I just wanted to mention an interaction between Sea Stealth Attack and Sea Stealth 2 that wasn't in the video, if you summon a monster with SS2 but don't want it destroyed at the end of the Battle Phase you can banish it with SSA which makes SS2's destruction effect miss timing and SSA will return your monster safely to the field at the End Phase.
1:35 the different Umi categories 5:47 The only card that recognizces "A Legendary Ocean" by its original name (and proves that "A Legendary Ocean" has 2 names) 8:34 I prefer my acronym: FASSt (Fish, Aqua, Sea Serpent) 51:46 The hypothethical Panther Warrior retrain would be a Red-Eyes card? or a Flame Swordsman card? or give it its own archetype
You know i kinda want to see a retrain of the Daedalus umi monsters. They have to be my favorite old structure deck boss monsters. Despite me loving zombies and all sorts of other types i do have a soft spot for water monsters. I had cards like spiral serpent and the non neo Daedalus and thought they were pretty cool.
While it is great that it can SS itself and get ur copy of SSA it's not worth playing when ocean dragon lord can do the same and be normal summoned w/ ALO on board
@picasso2559 that's why MFW exists. Plus doesn't need 2 monsters to summon (w/ ALO) and has better effects that don't have a requirement to meet outside of having umi on field which 90% of the time should be on board anyway. I run 2 SSA and no citadel whale but 3 ODL. I just don't see the value in it outside of the targeting protection
I know, right? Feels really weird that after all this time, it still can't search something. Konami really needs to get on it and print A Legendary Ocean already. Smh
This whole thing around Umi is amazing, showing that despite not being tide together under an official archetype name, they can build some cool decks. Personally I want those diving machine monsters + those Fortress orca cards to get retrains and support.
This was the very first deck that I made when I came back to the game a year ago after not playing it since I was in elementary school when the game first came out. It might not be the strongest deck, but it definitely gives your opponent problems when you get everything set up right.
Umi is such a classic achetype! Ane I think it is worth mentioning how useful the og umi was in Forbbiden Memories, as a way to boost the power of Twin-headed Thunder Dragon
Something you missed with sea stealth 2 is that with sea stealth attack you can permanently revive something every turn by banishing the card before it gets destroyed
Pretty insane how even before all the umi support legendary ocean was actually a fairly good field spell on it’s own. Reducing all water monster’s levels in your hand by one on top of being highly searchable it was kind of ahead of it’s time.
As someone who got back into the game since i stopped playing in 2006, Umi control is my main jam and i love this deck, I also think its criminal that Kairyu-Shin or Mega Fortress whale dont have animations in master duel, especially since it was a big deal in the anime Duel Monsters when Mako summoned Kairyu-Shin for the first time on Yami Yugi, even boss music played when he was summoned on top of a wall of water that flooded Yami Yugis field. I hope with the new booster pack coming out, Rage of the Abyss, that we get more Mako support or even just some water support that will pair well with umi control, seems Konami may be giving us that year of water we've been asking for, even if its in a booster pack.
I used to run Leviadragon in the GBA games. And everytime I see that field spell I think back to that format and smile because I miss the days I could nuke a field and also the field.
I remember during my first locals ever I tried to normal summon Neo Daedalus because I had a copy of it from before the “cannot be normal summoned/set” stuff was added via errata
I feel like any discussion of the Phantasm Spiral stuff could do with a mention of Megalosmasher X. A level 4 Water Dinosaur normal monster with 2000 ATK and 0 DEF. It’s the largest no-tribute normal summon the theme can use to trigger Pacifis, it’s still water, and it can enjoy searchability from Fossil Dig.
Something I saw in a couple duels was summoning monsters with Sea Stealth II and then banishing them with Sea Stealth Attack. Cracked combo, especially with the ease of recurring "Umi." Speaking of The Seventh One, Sea Stealth Attack could also banish Silent Honor DARK to protect it when it's at risk of destruction without any materials attached.
6:36 -The reasoning is because it says "This card's name is TREATED AS" not "This CARD'S NAME BECOMES." This means it still is A Legendary Ocean but ALSO counts as Umi at all times. Its a square rectangle thing. You still recognize a square as a rectangle because it is one but it also has extra qualifying truats that seperate it out from other rectangles. Umi has a completly different efffect with its boosting, doesnt reduce levels and doesnt need an affect to be counted as Umi. Also, Umi is Umi no matter what. If you negate the effect of an active A Legendary Ocean on the field, it no longer is treated as Umi..at least that copy while it is active and negated. This is important with names for a lot of reasons but also makes me realize something sad..if you have a card where you need to correctly guess a card in your oppoent's hand, you COULD try to guess the individual namesake of something, for example, Harpie Lady 1, or just say Harpy Lady and if it is Cyber Harpie Lady instead, still benefit. That is the one potential drawback since both names work at all times..but it doesn't typically come up very often so its the first time I have thought of it despite ahving run an umi and Harpie decks a lot in the past. However, the point is that this is not just because Konami said so. Nothing in the effect of the card says it is no longer treated as A Legendary Ocean, just that it is TREATED as Umi at all times. It is both. That means you can search it as a Legendary Ocean or Umi. You are thinking of this more like the strategy was built atound A Legendary Ocean and its effect of being Umi. This is not the case. The strategy and theme of having water monsters dependent on water AKA Umi, had already been established. The effect of A Legandary Ocean was added so it could play into this with existing cards/themes but upgrade. Also..it is Umi on a level. The point was that water monsters are not very useful except in the water. It is simialr to how the pokemone anime portrayed water pokemon at first. Yugioh also did this..its a weird anine pattern..they all need water early. They can be great in the water but suck on land. Land creatures also suck in their environment which is why Mako was a boss when Umi took over nearly the whole field. Yugi had almost no water monsters to fight back with and his land restricted mosnters had little room to do anything, thus being almost useless. A legandary Ocean is an ocean. Lemuria is also and aquatic city. There are in the water and thus their own location, field, but also in the water. Water monsters get their benefit from just the fact it is water but each is also its own unique place with those benefits being different. Thus they are all water but at the same time they are themselves and not each other. Lemuria is water AKA Umi but not a legendary ocean. A Legandary Ocean is water aka Umi but not Pacific or Magellencia. Get it?
I still remember people bashing the Kairyu Shin support recklessly, unknowing that its true Mako's playstyle. Gives certain uniqueness too for the deck!
I'm pretty sure Yorishiro's effect to copy names in the graveyard is specifically for Deadalus and Legendary Fishermen. More so Deadalus since it brings back the Umi you just use to do it again.
This got me thinking. Would it be cool to see retrains of the other original field spells? Or would that end up making some archetypes nowadays too broken?
Would be awesome to see the Daedalus archetype get some love like Fire Kings did in their structure deck. Bring down the year of fire with a year of water!
to be honest umi needs so rework. i always saw it as a active boss monster not just a field spell. most dont do anything but umi could change the battlefield, upgrade or downgrade monsters, control or floodgate. even the name umi to me meant it was like a boss monster. i think they should do just that, a monster that can be placed in the field spell zone called umi that could literally control the entire battlefield. i like the mako cards as i always saw them as support for any water deck that umi is named in. they could make a story like pirates of the carribean with umi and mako love story, a bond between a man who loves the sea and the sea who could never be tamed by man.
Well… It seems like Daedalus can’t catch a break these days. He has been imbued with the Power of Chaos, became a Metaphys, Lightray, and I suspect a Zombie Daedalus may be coming in the next set of Zombie Support in the future
It's strange that Umi is the only field spell to get this treatment. It would be cool if we had a "Umi" for the other attributes. Field Spells which read "This is always treated as ", give a buff to their specific attribute and having cards which specifically mention said OG field spell.
Phantasm spiral is so fun with paleozoic especially when combined with sea stealth related spells and traps creating a hilariously annoying lock. Heatwave is busted in the deck by the way
Phantasm spiral has a weird card that If you use on a weak monster and it attacks an strong defence position your opponent will still take the same even if you should be ypu still get the dragon on the field
Fun parenthesis, the spell card Sea Stealth 2 is absolutly impossible to take seriously in my language (french) because the card is named "Attaque furtive de mer 2" which litteraly translate to "sea stealth attack 2" which is fine and all... EXCEPT the fact that it sound exactly like "Attaque furtive de merde"... which litteraly translate to "sh*t stealth attack" XD
The single most infuriating control deck in the game. TCBOO without legs, backed up by 50 million floodgates or ways to dodge interaction. I hate this deck, man. Praying for a vid on Harpies in the future 🙏
I kind of want to play UMI control in Master Duel, but sadly, I suck at Saving SR and UR Materials at times and have had Abyssmal UR luck with 10 Pulls lately. Seriously, Never Financially recovering from when I tore apart 4 decks to have enough URs to make Branded. So far, I've only Managed to rebuild my Earth Machine deck from that self stab.
In Real Life the Duel of the Deep box with Mako on it the cards from that Booster box are the Umi deck cards😅 I would definitely say it's cheaper than Master Duel but you can upload IRL cards into game 😂
did you know wasteland has one or two supports actually, might be anime exclusive though umi was cool, it weakened machines and pyros did you also know in yugioh DOTR, sogen weakened spellcasters forest weakened fiends wasteland weakened plants, aquas, fish and sea serpents mountain weakened zombies
I bought 2 of these damn Mako boxes and I didn't like what was in them... Felt ripped off😂😂😂 I needed some inspiration for deck building and really it's there but I need to know if the "Umi" deck can or needs an Extra Deck😂
Yo As the owner of the umi discord server Might i interest you in trying out the umi horus deck? Its a really cool deck and has been dubbed by server members as "the best way to play umi control" :)
Trust me bro Sea stealth attack 2 into 1 And jellyfish legendary ocean for dragon lord back into sea stealth one and two and last tip Egypt god slime from guardian slime
Umi-Control is straight cancerous and unless you can burn thru their resources faster than they can accumulate, you're playing a grind game and most likely losing as a result. It's my favorite deck.
kairyu shin retrain is probably my most hated monster in the whole game. literally just tcboo on legs and its almost always backed up by a negate and a way to both dodge interaction and be unkillable by battle almost as dumb as harpies having a turn-long lingering skill drain hand trap, but at least harpies cant really use any other floodgates
I really hope they give the harpies more support. A single link-2 and a semi-synchro aren't enough for a deck that has to rely on HOOPT effects and don't have a way to make plays despite being WIND-centic and a fan favorite.
I respect your video quality however, it’s the forest puns that are really getting on my nerves. I know it’s your thing, but just don’t crack in pond for doom Kraken not really the best to be honest I like a pun as much as the next guy but when they’re forced, it just doesn’t feel right.

I wish we could've kept that misprint as the actual effect.

EXCEPT the fact that it sound exactly like "Attaque furtive de merde"... which litteraly translate to "sh*t stealth attack" XD
46:21, would GigaGaGaGo not be a better target than Terroking Salmon? Is it because it's a fish and plays well with something I'm missing?
12:10 🧐😯😳
This card got me actin up.
Tornado wall + Sea Stealth.... yeah, that sounds like a royal pain in the ass, doesn't it?
small correction: oath got errataed at some point to be 7 or more.
a retrain of deepsea warrior would be neat
In Real Life the Duel of the Deep box with Mako on it the cards from that Booster box are the Umi deck cards😅
I would definitely say it's cheaper than Master Duel but you can upload IRL cards into game 😂
@@tsohgallik You can't upload IRL Cards to Master duel, unless they recently Changed that.
@@StarlightMagician
Oops *can't 💀🔥👍
Anyway though a lot of the good cards are locked behind SR UR
@@tsohgallik I know. That's what annoys me.
You seem to missed a legendary ocean is atlantis and thus is related to atlantean
Well.. if you use Abyss Dweller then get out Neo.... Actually, imagine using it in Tear?
did you know wasteland has one or two supports actually, might be anime exclusive though
umi was cool, it weakened machines and pyros
did you also know in yugioh DOTR,
sogen weakened spellcasters
forest weakened fiends
wasteland weakened plants, aquas, fish and sea serpents
mountain weakened zombies
Gurnards is an insane card.
I bought 2 of these damn Mako boxes and I didn't like what was in them... Felt ripped off😂😂😂 I needed some inspiration for deck building and really it's there but I need to know if the "Umi" deck can or needs an Extra Deck😂
💙 🌊 I love this what is the best Water deck? I'd love to build one
Yo
As the owner of the umi discord server
Might i interest you in trying out the umi horus deck?
Its a really cool deck and has been dubbed by server members as "the best way to play umi control" :)
Ma Gel Lin Ca like the explore, Magellan
Trust me bro
Sea stealth attack 2 into 1 And jellyfish legendary ocean for dragon lord back into sea stealth one and two and last tip Egypt god slime from guardian slime
And swordsoul synchro water guy
and then the fish learned how to synchro summon
They laughed when Kaiba created a duel academy.
Umi-Control is straight cancerous and unless you can burn thru their resources faster than they can accumulate, you're playing a grind game and most likely losing as a result.
It's my favorite deck.
I still think believe “this card is always treated as” affecting deckbuilding is still the most asinine rule in the game
Not sure if you get this a lot but you sound like mako tsunami in tone
So if Umi got banned, does that also ban A Legendary Ocean?
Thank you for not saying “yumi’’
Please do flame swordman or exodia one day
I am *NOT* a freaky fish guy!!
Oc neodeadalus used not need the levia dragon deadalus
Mako Tsunami is the goat!
Yami is my favorite
I've been bullying people on master duel with umi control its kino
Legendary ocean is the goat
Umi control has me at platinum 1
I haven't run umi in my merlantean deck in years. Just no reason to.
kairyu shin retrain is probably my most hated monster in the whole game. literally just tcboo on legs and its almost always backed up by a negate and a way to both dodge interaction and be unkillable by battle
almost as dumb as harpies having a turn-long lingering skill drain hand trap, but at least harpies cant really use any other floodgates
I really hope they give the harpies more support. A single link-2 and a semi-synchro aren't enough for a deck that has to rely on HOOPT effects and don't have a way to make plays despite being WIND-centic and a fan favorite.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
MAKONOMICS 101 BABY
I respect your video quality however, it’s the forest puns that are really getting on my nerves. I know it’s your thing, but just don’t crack in pond for doom Kraken not really the best to be honest I like a pun as much as the next guy but when they’re forced, it just doesn’t feel right.
Why did they translate half the fields and leave the other half in Japanese?
What, no OH FiSH?
I mean OH FiSH!
