When I saw Life is Beautiful in the cinema it got a completely random standing ovation. Never happened before or since.
if you want a film to win an academy for best actor/actress and/or best picture awards then just mention Jews and WW2, it's becoming a classic thing and boring to some extent...
When I saw it at the theater everyone was crying at the end... everyone was very somber.
Murray was dead on about Shakespeare In Love, it's the "blonde" of that year's acadamies.

Well, he was right 2 out of 3. That was the worst Oscar in cinema history, by the way, with Benigni "beating" actors like Sir Ian McKellen and Edward Norton. And can you believe Paltrow beat Fernanda Montenegro, Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep and Emy Watson?? No wonder they loved Harvey Weinstein back then. Speaking of Weinstein, Saving Private Ryan lost to Shakespeare in Love, ridiculous.

I think he's right. It probably is the Brits voting for themselves at the Academy. I hate those British royalty films; because I hate the royals: "The King's Speech" - the terrible burden faced by one man forced to lead his country in a time of crisis. "Elizabeth" - the terrible burden faced by one woman forced to lead her country in a time of crisis. "The Queen" - the terrible burden faced by one woman forced to lead her country in a time of criss. They're all the same film! I would ban Brits from voting. I'm British by the way.
