History made, and the consistency of Mr Murray being a good luck charm for Dave & Company, whether perceived or true, is delightful, and lasted the entire franchise.
The first or second night I had a tv in my bedroom, this is what I watched. I never knew it was Dave’s first night, but I remained a loyal fan ever since.
The BEST! Love Dave, Love The Murracane! Great how Dave just let him go and do his schtick. Of corse it was all basically planned out, still, the immediacy and sense of improv sold it. Two tall goofballs win! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Apparently Bill has a history of antagonizing co-stars and directors. Richard Dreyfuss famously called him a drunken bully, and Richard Donner said he was incredibly difficult to work with on Scrooged. Maybe Bill has something against Richards.
I am English. I was born in 1972 so if had been from the US, all these shows would've been iconic. As it happens I'm discovering 99% of them now, 2024, aged 52. So many British friends hate Letterman etc. I think we missed out, man. Big time. "where do these stairs go?" "They go up."
I really feel the youtube clip should have included the whole sequence from the beginning. It's really more complete if you include every part of the bit.

News of actor Bill Murray’s death spread quickly earlier this week causing concern among fans across the world. However the August 2022 report has now been confirmed as a complete hoax and just the latest in a string of fake celebrity death reports.
It's kinda morbid that channels like Dave's will immediately post a video when a celebrity dies. You see someone's video an immediately think they may have just died.
I remember watching this when it was first on and I didn't find it particularly funny at the time. Bill Murray rarely is in interviews. It was just that it was Dave's first CBS show, so it really didn't matter what happened.
'I'm such a COWARD.'
Christ, the energy. He left it all out there. What an icon.
Bill Murray was/is a truly free spirit. It also helps that's he's funny AF.
When you said WAS I got so scared.
Almost 30 years later, I still remember Bill Murray spraypainting the desk
I was in the audience for this. Fun Fact: Billy Joel used cue cards during his performance.
Lucky you 🙂
I was in the audience for this. Fun fact: progmot is making that up
If the song was 'we didn't start the fire' no one can blame him.
@@23timtrue I think he did River Of Dreams, which was his new single back then. Can't blame him if he did.
I was there too. That’s me at 11:58 shaking Dave’s hand.
Billy performed No Man’s Land.
History made, and the consistency of Mr Murray being a good luck charm for Dave & Company, whether perceived or true, is delightful, and lasted the entire franchise.
They have such good chemistry! Would like to see Dave interview Bill today. Hey Letterman!
It would be compelling to see them dip below the irreverent surface and get real on My Next Guest.
@@thelettermanpodcast agreed.
@@sarahthomson8183 we will be talking about Bill more on an upcoming episode

God Bless Bill & Dave - my faves.
Ah, I remember watching this. Classic.
Opening night! Much of the world watched that night. A real event!
I love old tv. Always and forever, for me personally.
Old TV? Is this really considered Old TV now?
The BEST! Love Dave, Love The Murracane! Great how Dave just let him go and do his schtick. Of corse it was all basically planned out, still, the immediacy and sense of improv sold it. Two tall goofballs win! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Has it really been 29 years? I remember watching this as if it were Eagle River was beautiful. We'd go up there and fish and damn Nixon. Squirrel.
He should have written "Bill" on the "hello my name is" sticker.
Bill Murray is on one in this video. I think he's drunk. I love it!!
Apparently Bill has a history of antagonizing co-stars and directors. Richard Dreyfuss famously called him a drunken bully, and Richard Donner said he was incredibly difficult to work with on Scrooged. Maybe Bill has something against Richards.
Murray totally upstaged Dreyfuss in "what about bob"..it was a stupid movie, but Bill made it watchable. Dreyfuss is just annoying
Thank you Dave for making him cross the A 🖤
Bill is a wild man! Absolutely love it! 😂😅😂
Billy. Such a wildman.
@09:08 its amazing you can read his drivers license
love bill murry!
You can tell that Dave wanted to tell the 'It's pointless to steal NBC paint' earlier on, but Dave let Bill do his thing. Comedic timing genius
Thanks Dave

This Murray appearance gave me Farley vibes at the very beginning, and then he fell on the re-entrance.
I really feel the youtube clip should have included the whole sequence from the beginning. It's really more complete if you include every part of the bit.
That’s what the Donz’s channel is for ;)
Gold
Classic love it
I wonder if, while watching this show, his stalker was like "Dry Creek Road. Dry Creek Road. Dry Creek Road ..."
9:09 Bill has a nice manicure.
Bill Murray is so cool that he has no vanity
Thank you for being so generous to the people, So much entertainment at the finger tips of everyone! From The Netherlands
Agreed! Except from the Netherlands part.
Has the first time I've seen that since it was on the air man that's funny

I guess Letterman never interviewed Mihail Gorbatšov.
beel murray
Wow! Who was that guy?
Cocaine is a powerful drug!!
Sponsored by Coke. 🤣
Please tell me Bill Murray didn't die.
He didn't. It's Late show anniversary day!
This channel has definitely trained us to panic every time they mention a celebrity.

too bad he turned out to be a creep, too. real bummer this one was.
I was looking up the definition of Cringe and found my way here.
Yikes...
How disturbing.
Stolen valor... shameful, bill!
I have idea why this was funny. Hasn't aged well...
