Stories about how you changed lifes with your videos? Thanks to you I not only learned all I know on digital painting, I also found so many amazing other teachers that showed me so many fascinating things. I'm just 20 years old now but thanks to people like you or Scott Robertson I've developed alot. I'm /undercurrent on DrawCrowd.
i love how he was talking about when you think about putting your stuff on facebook or having to send your work to your client, show off to your friends or other concept artist to checkout your work, I lived through that fear since I was little.Still do.It stressed me out and I even beaten myself up for it. Ty for encouraging us
I really like the philosophy behind these paintings, especially comparing it to 'jazz'. This really helped me ignore those fears and that linguring critical voice in the back of my head. Thank you for making and sharing this!
I spent the whole Sunday learning with your videos, I really like the way you explain and the stories, philosophical stuff. I gotta sleep now. Thanks for sharing knowledge.
Best Advice on Artist's creative Freeze (14:40)(something like a creative block but different). Yeah! U helped me again. I have been suffering from this hideous creative disease for years. and I never knew it could be solved. Feng... I only watch your videos (relatively speaking) for the words of inspiration and truth that u share so easily. like a GURU or SUFI saint. people don't realize that how Amazing your Insight is on life and creativity. (remember how you differentiated the sides of an ISLAND!) God has truly blessed us in form of FENG ZHU!!!
My realm for that photo library. I´ve alwyas thought that if u walked by Leonardo today without knowing it, it would be difficult to compare his talent with the real Leonardo, because we dont think geniuses that big are born nowadays. However I think is pretty clear we have one here. That warmth, man he's really inspiring. Keep it up!
Thank you so much for your guidance and for taking the time to make these LD videos. I'm definitely more of a visual learner, and this has helped TONS. This is the first video I've seen from you, and will definitely be looking at more!
This is my favorite tutorial... so colorful and fun! Reminds me of one of Picasso's most famous quotes: “It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child"
Everything this page uploads inspires me so much. I just wish there were some lessons on how they actually used photoshop. I can never see to find anything they are doing as accessible.
Thank you for this episode mr. Zhu , very refreshing and inspirational to hear you talk about the creative process and changing it up, to keeping it fresh after an established "safe zone", that everyone falls a victim to eventually.
oh god, this is a gem in the internet. You are awesome!!! I love drawing as my hobby, i believe if i spend 1 year on real learning i can become pretty good, but in my main area of work, what you say apply in 100% of the things. I do web design, where your tips are so real and come in such help that i cant say how gratefull i am !!! THANK YOU!
I say this time and time again, but thank you Feng, concept art is a scary subject for me, I have many doubts about ever getting anywhere with it. I haven't taken any steps to try it yet, but hopefully in the near future I will. You're videos really are great and they reassure a lot of people including myself, you're a brilliant teacher.
I'm really happy with these Let's Draw series videos. I'm also a big fan of the commentary. I really feel like I'm speaking with a peer that thinks like I do. Thank you for making such robust videos with great quality and making them FREE. You do art a serious justice.
I just had to pause the video to say that I thought that part (at around 16:00) Feng Zhu said about freeing your mind from the stress of the result, and expectations and treating everything as a test and experimentation, putting mind into a completely relaxed state. That is golden advice. Alright, now back to the video.
Thanks for sharing that site! There's much inspiration to be found there! And thankyou for another top quality video. These always encourage me to learn to draw/paint better.
Feng, thank you so much for your videos! Every time I watch them, I feel as if my work just immediately improves (I always start painting as soon as the video is over) because of what I learned. I've been subscribed to you since circa episode 40 (I have watched all of them, several times though) and you are probably one of the main reasons I aspire to be a concept artist. Never stop with this channel, you are working miracles. :D
More character designs! I'm still a beginner, focusing mostly on figures, etc. and would love to see some of the character-centric stuff you used to do more. I like watching this, but for myself and probably some other viewers, it's totally foreign to what I can do at my level. Just my vote on what we'd like to see next. Glad you're back.
you have an amazing page filled with wonderful tutorials and amazing artist. Congrats. I really need this page these days. I wanna improve on my painting.
Chrono Cross is a direct sequel to Chrono Trigger. It takes place 16 years after the end of Chrono Trigger on some island country south east of the mainland in Chrono Trigger. The sad thing is while Chrono Trigger has a happy ending, in Chrono Cross you find out that it was actually quite a tragic turn of events right after the ending.
Thanks for the support from FZD, I was glad you helped me out :). I do have a few questions to ask every 3-4 days or weekly, so I hope you can guide me or eliminate the the misunderstandings I have about some design elements. I want to ask - is it necessary to do both character and environment art together or separate them? First do character design and then Environment. Also, how much depth should I concentrate in sketching, should I do sketching only, or improve it to drawing standards, like drawing realistically. I am studying game design, and wish to work as an environment 2d-3d artist and later proceed to concept work :)
I had NO IDEA that drawcrow was your site... found it few months ago, and wow the site is by far my go to whenever I need inspiration. Great site, great idea you had there, and can't believe still that is totally FREE! and btw, i'm from Argentina, and the site works like a charm, 0 lag, all images loads instantly almost, so yeah even with low connection works awesome! I seriously can't thank you enough for make that site possible!
Hey Feng, I have a suggestion that might help you out. You should make an FAQ video and have a link to it. At the beginning of every video you should let people know about it and that way you don't have to answering questions about what size brush you use, what the canvas size you use is, etc. Anyway its just a thought, keep up your incredible work!
The 4th picture had something going on for it, sort of like a collage of environments, rather than just a window into one. I think that could be pretty cool and interesting to take further.
Maybe you would want to make something for Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter Nights? Also there's a whole Blood Omen series to take inspiration from. Also, it would be cool to see you do character reboots or industrial design reboots of things (spaceships, vehicles etc) from old games, and talk about character design and industrial design. Thanks for posting these videos, they are a great inspiration for me.
Yeeee, I'm appeared on your video, it's my glory time! XD By the way, seriously, DrawCrows is very well done, expetially about navigation and upload, my compliments and, obviusly, your video are always very cool !
Omg you had Dociu come visit *__* Great video, I'd love to see more colorful paintings from you! As you said, the western industry is quite dominated by these dark designs, it's nice to see things changed up a bit! And I will definitely check out the drawcrowd site.
Thanks for the video Mr.Zhu. I always learn so much by watching you draw/paint. I have a question as a student, which I hope either you or someone else can answer: I tend to draw lots of creatures, contraptions and people I see in my daily life as well as some rehashed versions of characters from movies and games that really stand out to me. While I enjoy drawing creatures and such, a lot almost all of my characters come from places that I can see within my mind. Yet, when I try to draw them, they never look like what I am imagining, in fact the never seem to encapsulate what I imagine. Basically my question is why does this happen and how can I become better at landscapes that don't even exist in reality?
This is a very broad question that's asked very often. Concept design is like any other study. You have to put in the hours. The answer is that you simply haven't mastered your fundamentals. Be a keen observer and study your fundamentals. When you imagine something you imagine it as a whole but constructing it on a canvas requires you to know the pieces. It's up to you to study the building blocks before you can communicate what is in your imagination. In short, study light, forms, value, color theory, rhythm, anatomy...ect. I think often times people ask this question hoping that the answer will bring on an epiphany but it's just a mater of study and hard work. Good luck !
Thank you for your response. I will admit that I have weak fundamentals, especially when it comes to perspective and color theory. I will make sure to improve upon the fundamentals as I need to. Thanks again, I appreciate the answer.
I'm really loving these let's draw videos, well i like all your videos their very inspirational and full of information. but these are sorta the best of all worlds
I haven't seen any clean futuristic yet so suggestion is "KILLZONE" 5 idea. You talked about the idea in episode 71 so would like to see 4 way design of earth city, Helghan (helghast home planet), space fight/scene, and a organic/futuristic scene (mountains, jungle, desert oasis, forests, etc.), up to you my friend. Love the video's!
Lots of inspiration and nostalgia from this video! Chrono Cross is one of my favorite games. Some suggestions for future Let's Draw videos: Bravely Default, Xenoblade, and Journey. Thanks for the great content!
Hello Feng, I really enjoy your videos and the work you do, since I'm only at the beginning of digital art I find it great to get so much insight into the world of Concept Art. Keep your work up, really loving it! Already joined DrawCrowd! :)
It has always been a dream of mine to be the main illustrator for a major JRPG just like Akira Toriyama was in Chrono Trigger or Nobuteru Yuki in Chrono Cross. I believe these artist (and some others) were my biggest inspiration on pursuing an art career. Even now, artist like Hyung-Tae Kim in Blade n' Soul are leaving their mark on the next generation of games. That reveals just how much a particular vision or artist can influence a game. I hope you consider another great game from the past - that had a great mix of sci-fi and fantasy - for a future "Let's Draw" ... Xenogears! I know they already did a remake of that but even so your vision of the old classic would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. :)
a Starcraft inspired piece would be cool. I don' know, maybe something like "What would I see if I'm standing in a Terran/Zerg/Protoss base?". My 2 cents..
Oh hell yes! Dark Cloud 2 is one of my favorite games of all time! Stumbled upon it at Blockbuster (lol), rented it, loved it, bought it, had a heck of a time!
Chrono Cross, I'm real happy for ya, and I'mma' let you finish, but Chrono Trigger was the best Chrono title of all time. The best Chrono of all time! *_shrugs and hands the mic back_*
That was my favourite RPG for Playstation 1. It brings back some good memories (though I guess I can't remember the correct music sequence to get the nice ending of the game :). Nice to see this re-visited. Now if I may suggest a game, I would love to see your take on Outlaws. I used to play it back when I didn't enjoy FPS'ing with monsters (Doom, Quake) and Outlaws totally caught my attention. It has a memorable soundtrack as well.
Chrono Cross is my favorite game so far and i really enjoy this episode, amazing works, beautifull colors and nice designs. So, my suggestion for the next episodes is Final Fantasy IX and Shadow of the Colossus, which containing a pretty amazing art direction.
Hi Feng, here's one point you can add to Drawcrowd to make it a little bit better : Can you add a button "follow user" into the lightbox (when you click on an image from the first page) ? it would make it easier and quicker to discover and follow users. This website is really great :) Thanks for all you do :D

I'm watching through all your tutorials as of now. (currently episode 16) These are amazing and extremely helpful. Thank you! ;)
I've been wanting to see you approaching something "happy" for a long time. This is my new favourite episode!
My favorite part of this video was getting to hear Feng fanboy out. X3

You and your work are a big inspiration for me Feng :) thank you so much for being you. This episode really touched me
Would love to see a version of Vagrant Story, made by Yasumi Matsuno during the Squaresoft days back in 2000. Have been following you since video 1!
I had NO IDEA that drawcrow was your site... found it few months ago, and wow the site is by far my go to whenever I need inspiration. wow the standard on drawcrowd is actually higher than pixiv. good job
My life has changed so much, that there is no way to possibly Thank you enough Sir Feng : )
Hey Feng,
I have a suggestion that might help you out. You should make an FAQ video and have a link to it. Feng thanks for bustin out the tutorials very inspiring and helpful.
"...now that I have a little bit that skill..." understatement of the year!
Awesome pieces. I also love the first one...fits perfectly with Chrono Cross. Would love to see a 'Legend of Mana' let's draw.
I visited the FZD booth last year at GDC. I really look forward to meeting you.
I'd like to see a Breath of Fire let's draw!
Beautiful speaking about doing your art for yourself ultimately! Profound thanks to you.
The 4th picture had something going on for it, sort of like a collage of environments, rather than just a window into one. I think that could be pretty cool and interesting to take further.
I wanted to see some Quake, but this is WAY better! I love these colors and the design.
I'd love to see Fable or Half-Life. Maybe with more focus or character/creature designs. Great video again :)
i signed up for drawcrowd just before I watched this! didn't realize you were involved with it. love it
Thanks so much for this, it was really great to see you so inspired and the talk about working for yourself really inspired me.
this got me in the mood of painting digital just for the sake of painting. Thumps up
I was just feeling bored, I am saved!
I wish drawcrowd survived. I'm not a big fan of artstation and their model. if it continued, it would provide much welcoming competition :/
Maybe you would want to make something for Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter Nights? Also there's a whole Blood Omen series to take inspiration from.

Yes! Same with me! So many years and it's still one of my favorites! :)
Excellent, great to see some colours!!!!

*_shrugs and hands the mic back_*
All mere kidding aside, nice video, Feng! ;)
Go ahead. You can call them Happy Accidents. :]
This is beautiful!
Hi Feng, thanks for all your advices and great works :)
To stay in the same kind of mood, let's draw Secret of Mana or Dragon Quest :)
Would be super sick to see your rendition on the Warcraft universe!
Chrono Cross is my favorite game so far and i really enjoy this episode, amazing works, beautifull colors and nice designs. So, my suggestion for the next episodes is Final Fantasy IX and Shadow of the Colossus, which containing a pretty amazing art direction.
Thanks a lot for the videos Feng! So helpful and inspiring
Hi Feng, here's one point you can add to Drawcrowd to make it a little bit better :
Can you add a button "follow user" into the lightbox (when you click on an image from the first page) ? it would make it easier and quicker to discover and follow users. This website is really great :)
Thanks for all you do :D
Great great video feng thank you for all the inspirational dialogue!
I think doing the Grandia series would be awesome.
You are amazing. Thanks for showing the process of adding more details. I was about to post that it would be great if you could show us an illustration as you add detail, but you covered that in the second part of the video. I loved the first picture (46:00) since I am a fan of nature more than industrial environments.
Also, if the next version of Photoshop comes with a "Add detail" filter I am definitely buying it. :)
Hey, I think Snatcher would be a cool one to draw from. Another one that would be awesome is the original System Shock, would love to see that one high res!
Thank you for this awesome video!
It's really cool to watch you painting some "happy-happy stuff" :)
Thanks for the video Feng!
I would love to see you do a remake of Super Metroid.
Thanks, ideas for next ep.
Panzer Dragoon, Front Mission, Virtual on, Zone of the Enders.
None of these have high marks in the scenery department but my god did they have some cool characters/ creatures. Zone of the Enders for sure.
Thanks Feng......very resourceful.I will be thankful if you do soft body character design.
Just got set up on the DrawCrowd site, very slick. Recommended!
maybe you could make one of these episodes from a book instead of a game!
Nice, he finally used that parrot photo! awesome!! ; D
I can´t imagine how cool a remake of LOOM, the old adventure of lucas arts, in the year 2014 would be. That must be a lot of potential to draw, with all the music and combining with nature....
Thanks so much for the new video, Feng! I'll hopefully be making a Drawcrowd profile soon.
DrawCrowd is great, good job! Would like to see Xenogears in the next Let`s Draw.
Thank you for the new background for my desktop Feng! :D
Maybe a JetMoto would be cool to see as the next Let's Draw !! ;)
Thank you for this Feng, very informative.
Great video! I really appreciate how your videos are informative and straight forward!
Can you please make a video on color balancing & matching? I know which colors to use, however upon completion of the work, the colors seem to be mismatched.
thank you for the episode!
it'll be nice in future episodes to do some interiors also or some character design
Let's draw Oddworld will also be a good idea, there were some good designs in those games!
I love this series...and I would love to see landscapes redesign of Planet Nameck if there would be a decent Dragon Ball Z live action..
Agreed! This is a great idea!
Hey feng, could you do a star wars related lets draw. I would be interesting to see some star wars style landscapes/characters
Hey Feng, another awesome episode. They always get me inspired to paint :)
Feng your let's draw series is awesome!
I have some suggestions:

Totally would be awsome to see you do Legend of Dragoon! its kinda from the same age as Chrono Cross : )
Would love to see your take on Mass Effect, the environments in those games are amazing!
Amazing video! Do Final Fantasy 7
