      me too! i keep coming back do it, its fucking gold! this is the first time i truly understood how to really use a reference, before i used to get confused about what to pick in a reference because most times there is just so much stuff to look at you dont know where to start. Your subconscious recognizes the silhouette but your eye goes straight for the other flashy things lool but as he explained here most artists focus on the building blocks of the image first and pick the things that'll help build proper form nd details then do away with the other extra stuff. Just fucking blew my mind!

    I remember how 10 years ago Feng was talking about that one of the main reason to start this YT channel is to get more people to know what Entertainment design is, because there was a lack of professionals. First clips gathered just a couple of thousands views and Feng even replied to comments himself :D
    What a time it was.
    All this channel is just pure gold for any artist, especially for those who can`t afford courses and schools

    I just want to thank you, my master, I really have learned from you that drawing is not just good looking stuff, but it goes beyond, in the end, the main purpose is to connect and transmit ideas.

  • @tacticslc4805
    @tacticslc4805 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Basically, this video is HOW to use your eyes to see, that's super interesting !!
    Even if there is no drawing, it's about understanding and I like it as much. This one answers a question I had since I heard the phrase "draw from real life" : but sometimes, real life is boring it's hard to make it look good, I never thought some things are way cooler and you can start to organize them by difficulty levels, this is prioritizing what is cool before what is easy to draw, of course the cylindrical castle tower seems "easier to draw", always think about the WHY you think it is like this, why is it boring or cool?
    Also I always felt a bit guilty because I thought I could only draw cool stuff because I had good refs (feeling like the photo did 100% of the work and not me), but now I understand, finding cool stuff you like to use as inspiration is totally a part of the process, if you think something is boring and still use it, the end result can probably end up boring too.
    It started about details but I think ultimately the video was about the coolness factor and how to break it down to simpler steps so we can reconstruct it for design purpose, I really want to see how everything is combined and applied in the next one :D

    I just discover you and all your content, the information and the way you exposed it here is PURE GOLD!, you didnt do the cliche of speaking about Big Medium Small, or simple having contrast, you spoke about visual perception and how to control the flow of the eye, this is something that I study and Im researching a lot, do you got more videos or resources speaking about this?? and also the part about how to choose a concept to do based on the complexity, interest and details is amazing too, carified me a lot. Thank you really!

    I’ve been rewatching and listening to these for the last couple weeks as I work and they’ve always been so helpful and inspiring when I’m hitting my lows in my art, which is happening right now.
    So excited to open my TH-cam and find a brand new episode!
    Honesty Design Cinema and Mr Zhu are still the biggest inspirations for me and without Design Cinema these past 10 years I’d have never found a sense of direction in my life and realised what I want to do, so once again thank you!
    It’s been a lot of Illustration based work for me the last few years and heavily involved in a lot of projects and doing commissions which is all fine but man, I REALLY want to take the time to dive back into Concept Art and Design and really put my energies back into pursuing this side of life! Hopefully soon I can and I’m building a self curriculum based on Design Cinema and FZD which when it’s finished will hopefully be around a year of study starting from fundamentals!

    You are the best teacher out there man. Because whenever you speak I just feel you see inside me. And when you breakdown stuff and make us remember what is important and what is not even though it is the topics common sense etc. Hearing you just shakes me and make the actual change. Even though I always knew what to do. It might be because you don't get away with 10 min vids instead really showing the true rhyme and reasons behind these topics.

    Hey man super useful. I've heard this articulated different ways, but never specifically how the secondary details relate to the silhouette and should break it, and how that creates recognizability.
    Also, the thing about 3rd level details tending towards being contained within the 2nd level elements and so on. I had my own rough idea about this, that if you think about the detail distribution as an essentially fractal process, where you sudivide an area then subdivide that, you get that satisfying result where you have large clean areas and areas of high density; but this adds another helpful, practical layer to that.

    38:05 the argument can be made that words and faces alter the order in which you perceive things. In the example of the bottle, the siluete may very weel not be the first thing you notice since there are words on display. Our brain is very trained to detect words and faces, and priorizes them (specially meaning and familiar faces) over anything else on scene.
