I've been racing for over 30 years, always with stick. My young fella has started a few years back, and I got him a mid range wheel radio, they were better value and I figured what he started with would be grand. Give it a year, he wanted to move to sticks, as it was more akin to his video games controller... personal preference, but I do see a bit of a shift at club level back to a stick type radio.
I raced 20 years ago with sticks. When i went back to a model shop to ask if i could use my old controller with crystals they laughed lol. Technology has moved on! But still bought a new stick controllet
@PopalongRC I went to a local hobby shop to browse the new RC stuff and mentioned my AM radio. The guys at the counter informed me that Traxxas still honors their AM radio trade-in for a discount on a new digital setup.
If anybody used to buy RadioShack RC cars they always had twin-stick even in the late 2010s so the pistol grip is even foreign to someone who's young in their twenties
Before I started watching the video, I thought about how I didn't see the wheel until after I had used sticks a lot. Wheel remotes looked dumb and I didnt like using them. I'm in my 40s, so I also assumed I liked stick better because that's what I started with. I haven't done anything RC in decades though, I am looking into getting back into it. When I've looked at RC toys in recent years, many came with a wheel remote, so I figured I was going to have to try to get used to them sooner or later.
It’s an age & diversity of collection thing. Younguns are all pistol grip. As age goes up you start to see sticks. If you fly quads too probably sticks. It’s a complicated algorithm. Great video OLD DUDES!!
Is there a video tutorial on how to set up an after market stick based transmitter to an rc car? I’m also old and I detest the wheel… but I know nothing of how to set up an after market stick transmitter or even which type to buy for what I need.
As club racers, which brand do you recommend? Is there maybe a particular model or brand which is good value for money? I’ve just pulled the trigger and bought an SN-RC after I watched one of your videos 😊, but now I’m not sure what transmitter to get for it. I was looking for Sanwa but the prices were about €300..yikes! I can buy 3 chassis with that price😅 Can you make maybe a video of the best budget friendly 2023 radios to get for the aspiring racers?
It’s a massive debate when it comes to radio gear Mark runs futaba and Carl runs Spektrum. Sanwa is popular at the clubs .. Absima is a budget option as is etronixs Will see what we can do regarding a video
I tell one words to all toys company. Wheels type joystick is very worst consapt and irritating. Not give driving feel and not satisfied kits . Only like all people. This type joystick 🕹️ ok
Wheels is very very worst consapt for design. Uncomfortable control very irritating also but all toys company make trending products. But wheels joystick worst design
In the 80s all the way up to mid 00s always used sticks, it's just easier for me to work the throttle/brake with my thumb.

That’s interesting, I’m not sure wether I prefer stick or wheel.

I remember the days of crystals! Used to use a peg board and a flag on the transmitter aerial😂 .
They laughed because they didnt know what you were talking about!
NiCd batteries and color coded antennae flags are pure nostalgia
@WinkelManBearPig yeah I might tie a flag to my wheel just for nostalgia

True that
Mark thank you for saying it... I'm in to stick controllers... has anyone did a good video on brand & set up for on road?
Great video guys 👍 I’m old enough to remember it was pretty much sticks only back in the day 👊😎🏴

We tend to use wheel as most rtr cars come with wheels included
I'm old too 😅 I do prefer stick transmitters, but there is not many with uni directional gimbals anymore...

I’m both
Sticks on aircraft,
Wheel if it has wheels.

Wheels for wheels
Have had few wheels but just can't get used to them.I prefer Sticks, Any suggestion on what to buy on the Market? Also how do I bind it to a rc car?
Awesome video my friend
Excellent job, thanks for sharing

Thanks for the info, defo a vid for the future right there👍
Stick is better imo .
Chalk and cheese
I hated wheels when they first came out back in the day but can't use sticks for the life of me now. funny I still use them to fly though 😀👍
I know what you mean… it’s all about practice and what you become used to
Where can I get a new version that can go left handed?
Have a chat with Rochester RC they can order in.. if you used discount code Popalongrc it might save you a few quid
Thanks. Would you please put a link to dx3r transmitter. Cheers
Have to get the DX5 now as the 3 is outdated
I'm an oldie, it's gotta be sticks. I can't use those wheel/trigger things, I'm too stuck in my ways
Wow..... super helpful!

Stick transmitters suuuuuck! I have ran pistol grip for all the time I've done RC!
No answer but try to at least give some pros and cons of either. Else what's the point of watching this video
It’s personal choice, there are no pros and cons.

Err not much use in answering the question of the video lads.
Ay🤷♂️?
