So far I believe I’ve worked out how the migration footsteps work. At your furthest point they will all be filled in. One you start to get closer, the lowermost footprints will unfill. This happens until none of the steps are filled. Then, the top ones start filling up again and once the bottom one gets filled your in the zone (although I often got in the zone at the middle footprints being filled). I agree, i hope they spend some more time to finish this map and let it reach its potencial, although i had some issues with the verticality of the map but maybe its because Im not used to it 😅.
@@pilot_bruh576 some things can be fixed like the migration bugs and the weather, but overall the optimization and feel of the map is still underwhelming for a year wait. Still a good map but just a bit sad first run through in my experience.
@@ender_z4nd3r83 not a gateway problem but its just what impacted my first playthrough of it. Migrations not working properly impacts the gameplay of everyone in that area.
I was lucky enough to get into gateway and stay in the servers for a decent amount of time when the public ST launched, and I can say that the map overall is fantastic. However, as you mentioned it does seem like there are parts that look unfinished, the coastlines on the outsides of the map and many of the mountain peaks/paths stand out the most in that regard. One more thing is that there are plenty of spaces that you can get stuck in, but thankfully the Public ST is doing its job in exposing many of them and I hope that they will be smoothed over/fixed for the full release. However, if the biggest gripes with the map are something that can be fixed with a couple hotfixes and updates then I would say that they succeeded overall. Id recommend that you check out the river/lake systems (they have made incredible improvements, and I feel that the new water environment will be spectacular for the aquatic playables) and also take a peek at the underground parts they made. There are multiple tunnels and caves that are very well done imo. Edit: Also a full review would be greatly appreciated
The problem with Gateway right now is exactly the same as with Spiro, hotspots leaving the majority of this nice map into nothing, making exploring and being outside of the hotspots hard and risky...
Map is good so far, found some bugs like the collision boxes of the rocks you find on beaches near lakes, and I walked under one of those massive walls near the big human structures because you just could. but the verticality and versitality of the biomes make those bugs very minor in comparison. Gateway is fantastic!
If we are talking about design by itself and not gameplay mechanics. This is one of the best flipping maps I’ve ever played in a video game in my life time.
Personaly my only concern with gateway is that it might be slightly too large for 100 player servers but I might be entirely wrong there. That would also be easy to disc just by increasing server size
So I explored a really large chunk of Gateway and from what I’ve seen it’s a nice change from Spiro, however there are a few things I dislike and I struggled with. Firstly the combination of rain and night shortened the range of my night vision so drastically that on 2 occasions I walked (wasn’t sprinting) off a cliff I couldn’t even see . Secondly the new stamina system is a pain it takes far to long to regenerate and goes down rapidly in combat, if it regenerated at double the speed it did in play test I believe the stamina system would be great. Thirdly there is a serious lack of ai for carnivores to hunt I saw 1 deer, 1boat, 1 rabbit, and 1 chicken throughout my 12 hours. I however did find quiet a few sea turtles and of course the little flying ai was extremely abundant and annoying to deal with. Fourthly the jungles seemed to me to be far more disorienting than on spiro sure I didn’t get stuck as much and there doesn’t seem to be as many hidden cliffs but I found that even during mid day I needed night vision to see and I still found hidden cliffs that I ran right off and broke my leg a few times. Fifthly I found a few places where there was a hole that I couldn’t spot till to late that were just impossible to get out of even as a raptor I’d be 1 or 2 pixels from freedom when I’d jump and still could not get free I starved a few times that way. Sixthly I found that in the swamp it was difficult to tell where the land was and where it was just vegetation sticking through the water and there was a lot of small stumps all over the place that I’d get stuck on. Finally it seemed as though most of the players stayed to the north east plains and even when there I started to starve a few times because I could not find food my most reliable meal source as a raptor was heading to the beach and searching for a sea turtle.
I agree, although I think the last issue will solve itself once the hype settles a bit; really hope they add ambient lighting like fireflies to the jungle or something similar. Also hoping eventually we get to explore human structures because that would be so cool running through a labyrinth of a human facility
Gateway seems like the perfect map made by them, where after years of experience they figured out what a map needed. It is massive, yet always beautiful and interesting to look at. There are many more nooks and crannies to use as well, especially in the river area, so you can be somewhat safer when going for water... The water biome has more to offer in ways of hiding if you're playing a small aquatic/ amphibean. Even for big deinosuchus there are places to lurk and have your shape vanish in the plants. But currently i'd say, the major problem in my experience is, there is a lot that can you take you out of the experience. And a lot of work needs to be re-fixed. Like certain bugs and glitches that re-occure because it is a new map. Mechanically solid. I hope it is the last map these guys bring out until gateway is basically finished. - There is only one thing the game really needs. Either increased player population or more AI population. It always feels weird that entire jungles can feel devoid of any animal life. Which is one of the biggest spell breakers. Yet a dinosaur survival game sounds so simple. aha.
I couldn't agree more, Gateway feels like they took all the good from v3 and spiro removed the bad from both and mixed them into one amazing map. I just swam all the way over to the eastern islands as a beipi, I found no drinkable water there and was taking damage from thirst by the time I returned to the swamp to drink. While on the islands I was able to find 2 crabs scampering around on the beach. This tells me they intend to make those islands inhabitable in the future, perhaps a flyer nesting area only due to lack of water but even if that is the case, at least they aren't just out of map islands that are useless.
My first hour in gateway is the most fun i had since i had bought the game… to be fair i only bought it a couple years ago but still i believe gateway was a nessesary thing
I. Freaking. Love. This. Map. I also have a theory. 1 of the bio-domes is going to house a redwoods biome. The other could be subject to change, or even able to be manipulated by humans (snow and/or introduction of heat/cold)
I feel like Gateway is a breath of fresh air. It feels like they took all species into consideration when making this map and made specific areas that seem to benefit different hunting styles and survival tactics. Many areas of the map seem to support a much better ambush situations with thick bushes scattered across open fields, allowing for ambushers to sneek in close avoiding being seen until they are ready to strike. This benefits carnos and omnis especially. Persuit hunters like cerato can benefit by herding prey into dead ends by using the terrain to their advantage. Its very easy to run into ledges and dead ends now. Troodons are just golden hunters on this map. If you can't sneek up on something as a pack on this map you should stick to herbivore. The grass is plenty tall enough to ambush anything from anywhere as a pack of troodons and their nightvision makes it so much easier to fight larger prey.
I can't wait until full release, I'm hyped for the new dinos coming out. I won't say Gateway is perfect by any means however it is beyond my expectations. Right now my personal favorite carnivore to play on this map is honestly troodon for its amazing nightvision and hunting potential. My favorite dino in general to play is beipi for a few reasons. 1 its relaxing, 2 it helps me learn the location of water sources around the map, 3 the swamp genuinley feels like it was built for beipi and is all around satisfying to swim around hunting frogs crabs and fish. Plant life is always a great 2nd option in the area, and the shallow marsh areas are just fun to waddle around in searching for food. Typically nothing comes into the marsh for fear of deinos and beipi are able to easily evade them in such a deep swamp. There are tons of obstacles under water that can be used to waste deinos stam and my new favorite hobby is draining a deinos stamina to the point they cant swim up for air and by the time they can, im long on land hiding in the tall grass with a frog happy as can be.
Really enjoyed this yes a full review would be amazing and third on you video discussing why the isle needs to enhance single player gameplay I would love to hear how you would suggest the developers do this I know they intend on adding elder apexes like Rex to hunt players I think this is a step in the right direction again would love to hear your thoughts
hope they do something with the buildings cause they are just a waste of space rn, not tryna run around a huge cirlce if im starving or dying of thirst yknow
Love this vid of gateway would also love a full video but can you maybe also make a video about migrations alone? I personally really dislike the system how it is now. It is just a box you run to and from what i experienced by playing the map that when you have a migration zone there are no other migration zones active at the same time. Meaning ur stuck in that same part of the map cuz u don't hbave a different migration zone to go to once the current place gets stale
You know what the best part was? I was able to find frogs! I actually found frogs!!! I still had to search for them and that’s good, but also found some and didn’t have to search for 2h and still not find any
Tried stego yesterday and the migration icon never showed for me, so I never knew what path to take and were to find food, stayed on the edge of starvation all the time. Then there was this strange water bug were I wasn't able to drink on the first go. You have to go in a second time, and yes, that's more then enough time for croc players to come in and snatch you. I do like how the map looks and feels, its very open, lots of debry for small animals to hide in, tall grasses, deep swamps, lots of open roads, foreboding whats to come. Also love the new sound design and the weather system! The servers were not very stable (yet) with some rubberbanding left and right, but general speaking I would give this hordetest a 8/10 :)
Gateway is really good, is other aspects of the update that need changing, first they have to make stam regen faster, not saying it should be as fast as previously but it certainly needs to be faster than currently, second, migrations need some tweaking, also the time in what a migration changes should be faster, rn the same migration arear can stay for hours, last but not least, they need some optimization, for some people this map runs worse than spiro, myself included
We should vote for them to eventually bring back V3 and maybe even spiro updated to UE5 so that we can have a few different map options to play on instead of just being limited to the one map granted Gateway is the best so far but an updated V3 would be amazing and having options would be nice.
The map itself is nice, but the stam regen makes it harder than it was in Spiro to actually travel & enjoy the game. It's like 2m of running, 15-20m of resting. I've spent most of my time hiding in bushes from big predator's or resting for stam. BUT the little time I do get to actually play the game has been pretty dope. Hopefully the devs make the game more bearable to play.
it kinda gives me some old v3/v4 vibes (aside from the obvious flaws like the canyons in v4), the biome diversity, large plains with mountains in the background, open lakes etc, its not just closed forests and rivers for deino players to camp like spiro, or the same copy and pasted biome like the "new" v3 , its a great step to the game's future imo
I do not play the Isle for well lets say inattentive developers, but I hope those bio domes open up and seeing this makes me excited again despite I dont play.
I just played gateway for the first time last night and it was amazing. The atmosphere was rich and the game was immersive and gorgeous, the environments were unique and the attention to detail was s tier. Even a small fact, like how that a small creature, could partially hide inside a log brings so much detail and life to the game, the world feels so much more interactive. It might be the single best update in isle history, I played deino today and the time flew by, I was actually having fun and had more to do, than to sit in a bush for hours on end. This map highlighted to me, how truly terrible Spiro was. Granted, the novelty of it still hasn’t worn off, but even then, this map is leagues above Spiro, I’m surprised more big creators aren’t covering it.
The layout is all nice and well, but let's address the pink dinosaur in the room: has the performance improved? Currently Spiro is a mess where I consider myself lucky if I hit 20 FPS.
I like Gateway, but I think fog could be thicker/reduce visibility more. Right now, it doesn't feel like its useful for anything. I'd love for it to make an impact during hunts.
The stamina changes make traveling a pain in the ass for some dinos, especially since i have to choose between either traveling on roads that detour a ton, or climbing mountains that i am almost guaranteed to break my leg on (and now that takes forever to heal too). As a carnivore i can find easy food at any region of the map and ignore the migration zone, but my worst experience by far has been trying to play herbivore or omnivore. The migration zones are a single acre of land where herbivores and omnivores are allowed to eat, i can not explore as an herbivore because i am either walking to food, walking to water or getting attacked by 10 carnivores. I have already experienced large groups of mixpacking carnivores camping the entrances to migration zones several times, this is a horrible system so far, it does nothing but punish herbivores for simply existing. The only positives i can really give are that the map looks nice, i like that the eye glow is back, and it is nice that there are lakes and clear water sources, it is nice that you can make your dino dirty and clean it off.
i played deino for a bit and i fell twice inside waterfalls cause theres holes between rocks where the swimming doesnt work, and you just get trapped in a hole until you ether die or glitch out. def dont walk near waterfalls. but other than that the map is good, surely better than... spiro....
As i played pachy most of my stresstest time, and the fact that its migration system didnt work was a bit disapointing. Altough i Tought the Highland lake and coastal biome was pretty neat.
When i played pachy i got jumped at the entrance of my migration zone by 6 ceratos and a carno that were mixpacking and camping the gate to kill every herbivore that got near ):
my experience with the map so far as a Beipi has been fairly bad, very difficult for the one and only penguin in the world. Beautiful dont get me wrong, but I can rarely travel via water to get where I need to be, and frequently when I finally get there my migration point will move. Very lonely, and hungry existence so far. Not to mention when I am near water I have at least 5-10 crocs all hunting me simultaneously. Havent caught me, but oi is it stressful.
The only problems I have with the content of the stress test is the stam system and not that you can’t gain stam while trotting anymore but the fact that it takes like 4 minutes to get stam back as a Utah or troodon it a little weird the other thing I didn’t like are the pteros 2 tiny ass bird souls not bring my 100% grown troodon to the brink of death with like 4 bites
Ahh, I'm in the same performance boat as most people for now. My performance is worse than Spiro atm in gateway, and the settings I have to play at to have bearable fps make the game look pretty ugly unfortunately. I have other financial issues right now and can't afford fixing my gaming pc, so rip I'm just hoping humans come in soon
Now, if only the devs could fix the spawn rate of AI Prey and plant food items, so the game is more of a survival game rather than a PVP battle simulator in a survival shell.
Carnivores do see the migration icon so that they can follow their prey and go to where their prey live, and as a carnivore you don’t have to go to the migration spots but it will most likely have a lot more herbis because the herbis need to go there for food
Carnis do see the migration zone, 90% of the players at migration zones are carnivores killing both each other and every herbivore in sight. Herbivores are forced to go there if they want diet, but carnivores can get diet anywhere
gateway definitely brings back a lot of legacy vibes, and also the vibes spiro had when evrima first came out, but much better. I still found it pretty hard to enjoy the game with the poor performance, broken settings options, and some minor visual bugs, but I'm sure if it ran more smoothly I'd be able to appreciate it more. it's just definitely not as polished as anyone has made it seem.
I never find any food with carnivores. Finding any AI is like finding an honest politician. It almost never happens, and when it does, something goes horribly wrong, like it falls through the map or gets bugged somehow and can't be eaten. The equivalent of good honest politicians getting "cancer" or car/plane "crash"
I gotta say I'm laughing at how they fought and fought trying to convince us that "dense vegetation was supposed to indicate a cliff its just good map design, be more careful get good" and on gateway I didn't run off ONE cliff because they got rid of that nonsense... at least they're learning
It was a design convention that would would have worked if the other areas around the cliffs werent dense, which obviously isn't the case. If the entire jungle is dense, right up to the edge of a cliff, it doesn't really matter that the cliff edge is dense does it? I saw people argue there was a specific foliage type along the edges of cliffs but I can't say I ever noticed, its all just a green mess.
Gateway terrain is so jagged at every spawn that when i was playing it with my friends we were constantly stopping to wait for someone to heal a broken leg 😂

That Evrima dinosaurs move is really speedy against nice fluently Legacy moving
Yes, very much agree
I'm just so happy that the food bushes from Legacy and pre-diet system Evrima have been resurrected.
So it was Red Currant all along...
:D
Lost my cera to a hidden cliff earlier today, the isle can’t escape it. Hidden cliffs are ALWAYS gonna be in isle maps
Been playing it for 2 days and it’s the only thing I’ve been doing for 2 days and I love it 😊
Gateway seems like the perfect map made by them, where after years of experience they figured out what a map needed.
The other could be subject to change, or even able to be manipulated by humans (snow and/or introduction of heat/cold)
i was born into one of the domes as a beipi after some people found a way inside. it is a massive lake and waterfall
Dryosaurus looking badass like always!
gateway was a good experience, the stress test is hard to feel what they want, but its pretty, fun and the water biome looks incredible
There are tons of obstacles under water that can be used to waste deinos stam and my new favorite hobby is draining a deinos stamina to the point they cant swim up for air and by the time they can, im long on land hiding in the tall grass with a frog happy as can be.
really enjoying the new map and the migration system, have not ran into too many bugs
Gateway is pretty good.I had a lot of fun with it and it flows from place to place really nicely .8:40
I would love a full review also I been to the Swamp in Gateway and it’s beautiful
The underwater foliage is top notch
At 8:21 looks like you encountered more of the same rock meshes I've seen that never had their collision arrays done like some of the trees. 😂
I think the footprints show how many people are at the migration point
With all the bugs that they are currently have. It is beautifull when i first hopped on it created a awesome experience.
Just wanted the V3 thing to continue so this seems good.
The frames on it are so much better 😩
Good overview. I would enjoy a full review, as Evrima is getting to the stage where it is looking to be worth playing.
it kinda gives me some old v3/v4 vibes (aside from the obvious flaws like the canyons in v4), the biome diversity, large plains with mountains in the background, open lakes etc, its not just closed forests and rivers for deino players to camp like spiro, or the same copy and pasted biome like the "new" v3 , its a great step to the game's future imo
I saw legacy bushes on gateway and was hooked
The map has a V3 vibe, i lile it so much
I do not play the Isle for well lets say inattentive developers, but I hope those bio domes open up and seeing this makes me excited again despite I dont play.
The isle redemption arch ? Lets see looks pretty fun
I would love a review!
The swap in gateway is really good
I do believe this map will lead this game to the right direction 😃 Great video!
get this man to 800 likes
Wats wrong with the water also did it feel more optimized??
Did Jace make the map? I haven't seen his name lately. But I love the map! I've only explored a small part so far, but it's glorious.
I am interested in a full review of the Gateway map from the dinosaur survival game "The Isle"
i played deino for a bit and i fell twice inside waterfalls cause theres holes between rocks where the swimming doesnt work, and you just get trapped in a hole until you ether die or glitch out. def dont walk near waterfalls. but other than that the map is good, surely better than...
Why is the water constantly flashing?
my experience with the map so far as a Beipi has been fairly bad, very difficult for the one and only penguin in the world.
How the heck can you find gateway? What do you do exactly to find that server
The only problems I have with the content of the stress test is the stam system and not that you can’t gain stam while trotting anymore but the fact that it takes like 4 minutes to get stam back as a Utah or troodon it a little weird the other thing I didn’t like are the pteros 2 tiny ass bird souls not bring my 100% grown troodon to the brink of death with like 4 bites
spent like 6 hours exploring these last few nights and the first thing i said was gateway gives me v3 vibes
The only thing I hate about gateway is that so so fucking hard to find ai except for fish
when will gateway be out?
Is the monorail gone?
Im all for full.mao review
Ahh, I'm in the same performance boat as most people for now. My performance is worse than Spiro atm in gateway, and the settings I have to play at to have bearable fps make the game look pretty ugly unfortunately. I have other financial issues right now and can't afford fixing my gaming pc, so rip
I'm just hoping humans come in soon
Now, if only the devs could fix the spawn rate of AI Prey and plant food items, so the game is more of a survival game rather than a PVP battle simulator in a survival shell.
Full review plox
Great vid, noticed you are lagging quite a bit though, have you tried enabling DLSS?
Even tho dlss shows up in the options, it's disabled wether you unable it or not
Gateway is pretty cool but I just wish to bring back health bars
we dont need them if theres a lot of blood on ur screen you know that ur hurt
How do i get in?
So carnos won't see migration icon? I'm a little worried about that
Also few ai and uh do I always need to go to migration
Was it hard to find other players, because the. Map is so big
Gateway terrain is so jagged at every spawn that when i was playing it with my friends we were constantly stopping to wait for someone to heal a broken leg 😂
hope my 970 can run this shit, I bearly ran spiro with about 30-40 fps....
Gateway is fantastic, the stamina is horrendous
is it in the game yet or only stress test?
Bro no matter how gateway is, it’s better than spiro and v3
My experience was unfortunaly not that good. I was on queue place 340 after an hour 270 and than I was like f*** it
this whole game is first impression lol
