I've done that. Even more embarrassing... I did it to my civics professor. He doesn't ever let me live it down, and it was almost 20 years ago. I'm still friends with him and his family to this day.

Me being in the UK and him being from Canada, it made me so very glad that I stayed in the 'states a week later to see him on tour while he was in Chicago. One thing these stories often get wrong is that fuel only last between 6 months and 3 years in a tank before it goes bad from oxidization.
