  • In this video I share my recent disastrous experience reaching another grail watch, and what went wrong after buying a Rolex Day-Date 18038. I discuss a brief history of the Day-Date, what makes it so compelling, its cultural impact, and why it has become the go-to Rolex for successful entrepreneurs. Join me as I go full presidential yellow gold for the first time, and share my impressions on the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Congrats on the new piece TGV, it's great to hear your story and thoughts behind your pieces. I just wanted to say, it's because of you that I got into watches 4-5 years ago and purchased a Omega Seamaster (blue) 40mm for graduating law school which has been with me since 2016 on a blue rubber strap. Each time I look at it reminds me of what it means and I just love the design of the watch. I do lust over other watches but to buy another one means I'd give less time to the Seamaster. Just know you've had a tremeandous influence over young millenials like myself to get into time pieces at whatever price point, so Thank You for sharing your passioin and putting in the time to make such great content. Regards from Brisbane, Australia.

    Ouch.
I've had that happen to me. Not that long ago, due to some computer snafu, our server at work lost an entire days worth of my work. I didn't have a backup because, you know, the server is supposed to take care of that for me. I learned my lesson and now always keep a local backup. Learn from this - don't trust a card alone. Immediately back it up to another source.

I see what you did here. Very clever. Anyone reading the title would have assumed that the disaster was with the watch itself and would have been lured in by the thought that "Aha! I knew it. Watchbox sold TGV some junker Rolex" and would watch to see their suspicions confirmed and revel in their superiority and say "I told you so!", only to find they'd been tricked by someone more clever than themselves and learn that the disaster was with the loss of footage. Then the humanity of it all, to see TGV struggling with his own inner demons and angels (Tony Soprano and Sir Jackie Stewart) and ultimately assuring himself that he does indeed deserve the watch, backed by the blessing of his sainted "Mamma". Then to top it all off, the Marvel-esque end credits scene (spoiler alert) with Hugo deleting the footage was a cinematic masterclass. Well done sir. :)

This watch 36mm fits you particularly well. My wrist is 6.5" which i think is the same size as yours. I like generally 39", 40" or 41mm sizes but in this case ESPECIALLY when you're going to spend this much money, you had better try it on first!!! It doesn't matter the size of the watch really, what matters is the lug width, the colour of the dial and how it fits ON the wrist. Try it on! Lighter dials make the watch appear larger than it really is. In this case the light colour dial and the wider lug width combine to make a great fit to the eye.
    Superb!!! 😊

As someone who works in IT, SD card corruption is a terrible thing and sometimes unavoidable. I always say backup, backup, backup! I'd recommend picking up something like the WD My Passport Wireless Pro. It has a built in SD card reader so you can quickly copy the contents of an SD card to the drive so your data is in at lease two places. Anyways, awesome video as always TGV!

It's a definite shame you lost the video of the unboxing. I really hope you can somehow recover the footage through the various recovery softwares available. But to call it a "disaster", seems like an exaggeration. It's not like something bad happened to your newly acquired grail itself and you can no longer enjoy it. If something bad did happen to it, that would truly be a disaster.
By the way, the yellow gold 1803 or 18038 is a grail watch for me too. I hope to get one for myself some day :)

@ Lucky Kampakgut: If you actually listened to what the man said, you would have heard him say this was not a proper watch-review as he does usually. If you want to judge him at least do so by checking one of his reviews from his studio or war-room, as he calls it.

When would you say the right age to wear one of these is? I'm in my late 20s and am finding myself drawn more and more towards these types of watches. Though I also love really colourful watches in general, such as the Phoibos Wave Master.

Not really a disaster then..... Losing a video of the purchase of a gold $10k Rolex. First world problems TGV, first world problems.....

Another great show! You mentioned you were finished with Rolex, but threw in a subtle hint at maybe an Air King. Curious if you're interested in the older models (I've had a 5500 for a long time and love it), or the newer version?.

Why buy older model when they say the older models stretch and the new one 118238 doesn't stretch because of the solid gold links if you spend the money and gets a newer model you shouldn't have any issues one-and-done

I'm very happy for you! 😊. It is so good to know that when you buy a watch or anything for that matter that you're "over the moon" about it and that, most importantly, that feeling STAYS as the years go on!!!! That STAYING feeling of APPRECIATION is extremely important, and you should get it EVERY TIME you put on the watch in this case. 😮. I love the datejust as it's such a versatile watch, and I'm looking to step up to the daydate. The newer daydates have a wider bezel and also have deeper grooves in the flutes, which makes for a more distinct looking watch. I like rose gold, but that's just too much BLING for me!!!😅. My friend is about to purchase a rose gold one, I'll see how it looks on MY wrist!!! 😂😂😂
Great video, I'm extremely happy for you.
    Blessings 🙌

Cheers Tristano. You're an old soul, so picture yourself celebrating and commemorating such an occasion back in the day. The memories are etched in your heart and forever imprinted in the old memory bank. Vlog hopes aside, embrace the positive. Continued success. Cheers
