Howdy y'all!! Enjoyed the trip! I see Miss Teri has been piloting quite a bit and doing a great job I might add. Do both of you have to have a Captains license or can you run on one? Or does it not work that way at all? Well, that brought another question to mind...how difficult is it to attain a Capt's license? I imagine that you would have to complete X amount hours sailing under someone else who has a license. Is it then a paper test, an actual sailing test...maybe both? I'm sure there's a substantial cost to it all as well. Sorry, I know I tend to ask a lot of questions.
Anyway, thanks for the ride along! Looking forward to next time.

hey B! great to hear from you and LOVE your questions! Neither Jim nor Teri have a Captain's license but we do know other sailors that do. It's not required in the US for our size/type of sailboat. Jim does have three sailing certifications, but again; not required. The certifications Jim holds did have a sailing component and a paper test component. We negotiated the certifications into the purchase of our boat from the yacht broker that also ran a sailing school! Handy!! Otherwise, yes, we considered the certification classes a bit pricey for our budget. Jim typically handles the sail work and line work, that's how Teri ended up at the helm. We usually have a shift change during our travel days, where Teri takes a break after a few hours and Ace takes over the helm for the next few hours. Again, we are SO glad you're along for the ride and keep up those great questions.
