    Those are very beautiful. I wish you still had the templates/designs for the chairs. When I keep going back to the same video to watch it usually means I want to try and make it.

      Thank you so much. Now thinking back, that was really big project to make those chairs. Many people are asking about templates or plans but unfortunately I have nothing to give. But I thank you for your nice comment.

    Easy way to do the inside curve is to use a lathe and a piece of 3" round stock and some sticky back sandpaper. I've made several chairs with that method and it goes much more quickly..
    Nice chairs..

      Good idea! I have had lathe on my "shopping" list for quite long already. Now I have one more reason to buy one. :-)

    Beautiful work. May I ask how did you make your template for the back legs. How do I find the degrees or measurement for the legs. Thank you

      I have the same question.

    Thank you for this video. A friend of mine wants some chairs for his kitchen but he's having a hard time finding anything that matches his style & what they have is laminated mdf garbage for way more than he can afford. I'm going to see if I have the right tools to possibly make a couple chairs. Do you have any specific measurements listed anywhere?
    Also, would it make the chair sturdier if the front legs were notched slightly so that the front support piece for the chair rested on it? I was thinking with slightly thicker legs they could have the mortise and a little lip for extra support. Maybe even have the legs for the back be thicker and have a lip/notch for support as well.
    And have you ever made folding dining chairs? I didn't even know they existed until my sister just got some. I'd love to figure out how to make them & still have them be sturdy.
    I like how you had the image pop up to show which parts you were working on and I also like how you showed how things went together.
    Do you have a website that shows diagrams/blueprints with more details on these chair builds?

    • @OrangeCarpenter
      @OrangeCarpenter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi and thanks for your very long message. Hmm let's see now...I do not have a website nor I have any measurements listed anywhere. I think you could google suggested seat height and other measurements quite easily. If you're going to make seats from oak, then I would not make legs any thicker. They have very strong feel already and it's heavy material. These seats are heavy to move around I'm telling your. Adding more wood would just make them impossible for children to move. :-p

    • @mycats7321
      @mycats7321 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OrangeCarpenter Thanks, I've googled around & found some plans from Ana White as well as a few tidbits from Paul Sellers videos (which only mentioned the angle of incline for the seat back & the height of the front rail). Oak for the seat would probably be overdoing it because it would be covered by a cushion so plywood would work.
      I've also researched enough to see that the mortise & tenon would be sufficient support & that adding a curved cut to the bottom of the rungs and aprons would be just as sturdy but reduce the overall weight of the chair. I'm going to have to play around with some scrap wood & make a prototype chair & make modifications on anything that doesn't work. That will be after I finish fixing my bathroom floor, secure the sheet vinyl, and install the toilet -- my to do list is HUGE. LOL.

    Just a suggestion, I think you should turn up your voice when you talk and also decrease the volume of the music. I had to turn it up when you talked and turned it way down when the music came in. Good video

      Hi and sorry for late reply. I'm afraid I don't have them anymore. The only thing I still have is the template for the back rest design.

  • @jenniferstaley3851

    Where do you purchase chair templates for this chair? Thanks

    • @OrangeCarpenter
      @OrangeCarpenter  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I didn't buy them from anywhere. I used another dining chair to copy the rear leg shape on a piece of plywood. This chair was around 80 years old and I borrowed it from my dad. :-)
      That back rest figure I found from internet while browsing different chair styles. I then taped 4 letter size papers together and did rough sketching freehand just by looking at that chair picture on the net. When I was satisfied with the look, I copied left side to right side making perfect mirror image. (which later I realized was not 100% accurate LOL)
      So these templates cannot be bought from anywhere. If you want, I could take side and front photos of the chair and email them to you. This way you could use photoshop to copy the shapes and enlarge them to piece of paper. Just let me know if that would be helpful. Cheers!

    Do you have an estimate for total cost an time in these chairs ?

    • @OrangeCarpenter
      @OrangeCarpenter  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm let me see now. I paid around $450 (or ~370 Eur) for the oak boards and then some other costs would be stain, screws and those metal corner supports which were not much at all. So that is just for the material costs.
      How much time I used? Ughhh.....too much. Probably couple months in total....but that was like weekend hobby.

    • @OrangeCarpenter
      @OrangeCarpenter  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sorry to tell you that I was not able to find the exact chair anymore. :-(
      Actually it was not a drawing. It was a photo of dining set and I copied the back rest design to a piece of paper by freehand...then tweaked the style until I was satisfied. If you want, I can take a photo of the one I created and make outline drawing for you in photoshop. You can then change the size according to your needs and print it out. Contact me via email @ orangecarpenter@gmail.com.
      Cheers!

    ”Bαzοmο Tdy Plαn” (Google it) is a wonderful book about wood working. I took various classes and finished a one year diploma in carpentry at a local tech college; this is better than any book I worked out of during those classes. It describes everything regarding woodworking and complements it with useful pictures. .
