Even the small details, like the cars they drive in the first clip, says a lot about each of their personalities. Joan drives a Cadillac, which reflects her narcissistic and flamboyant personality. Bette drives a Chevy (that rhymes), which reflects her more down-to-earth personality.
Kyle S. uh yeah there was, she did spend time between films being a New England housewife, gardened herself, etc. Joan Crawford was “on” playing movie star 24/7. Davis was full of ego too but she had some other interests
When I hear the first line about the lead role, I just think if Warner would have push for a nomination for Crawford in supporting role, things would have been kinda different that year at the Oscars. Thinking about the chances, Bette was most likely to win because her body of work though the years compare to the other actresses nominated and the movie was wonderful thanks to her, obviously Crawford's role in the movie was "the good poor guy" in the plot and the academy loooves that type of characters, besides Crawford's performance was amazing and had a big career on her shoulders, that would have been a magical evening, if it weren't for the men and their evil decisions.
And old school star like Crawford would never of agreed to slum it in the supporting category. There was a stigma back then that the supporting categories were for character actors, and a leading lady like Joan (in her mind anyways) would considered it shameful. Which is shameful in its self. I feel like had Crawford and Davis slid into supporting roles they could of had a more dignified 3rd act...instead of playing leads in B horror pictures.
